Remaining 4 games of PSL 5 to be held in Lahore on November 14, 15, and 17 (Final)

PCB announces schedule of remaining HBL PSL 2020 matches

    Lahore, 2 September 2020:

Pakistan Cricket Board today announced the schedule of the remaining four HBL Pakistan Super League 2020 matches, which were postponed on 17 March due to Covid-19 pandemic.

The four matches will be held in Lahore on 14, 15 and 17 November with only the Qualifier and Eliminator 1 to be a double-header. Eliminator 2 will be played on the following day, while the event will conclude on Tuesday, 17 November.

The dates have been finalised following consultations and discussions with the four playing sides – Multan Sultans, Karachi Kings, Lahore Qalandars and Peshawar Zalmi – while start times will be confirmed closer to the event.

The final four matches of the event will be played under Covid-19 protocols, including bio-secure bubble for the players, match officials and event-related staff. The matches are currently planned to be held behind closed doors, though the situation will be closely monitored and will be reviewed in October.

PCB Chief Executive Wasim Khan: “This announcement puts speculations to bed and provides absolute clarity and ample time for teams to plan and prepare for these crunch matches.

“It was important at this stage to state our intent and lock these dates in the diary in the best interest of the teams and the tournament.

“The PCB was always keen and committed to hosting the remaining four matches as it believed an event of the magnitude of the HBL Pakistan Super League deserved a winner. We saw the excitement and buzz in the lead up to the competition earlier this year and look forward to promotional activations that will engage the fans once again.

“The hosting of the remaining four HBL Pakistan Super League 2020 matches also endorses Pakistan’s resilience in overcoming difficulties and challenges no matter what the nature. PCB is planning to hold its 2020-21 domestic season, which will include a number of age-group, men and women competitions, as well as home international series against Zimbabwe and South Africa.

“All domestic 2020-21 season matches will prove to be catalyst for the successful planning and delivery of the HBL Pakistan Super League 2021, which will be held in February/March next year.

“We look forward to once again bringing joy to the nation.”

From the four sides to feature in the remaining HBL PSL 2020 matches, only Peshawar Zalmi is a former winner, lifting the trophy in Lahore in 2017, which not only makes these four matches more exciting but also fills the fans with anticipation.

HBL PSL 2020, the biggest cricket spectacle in Pakistan since the 2008 Asia Cup, carries a total prize money of US$1million, including a winner’s award of U$500K along with a glittering and brand new trophy, and a cheque of US$200K for the runner-up.

Fixtures (start times to be confirmed in due course):

Saturday, 14 Nov – Qualifier (Multan Sultans v Karachi Kings), Gaddafi Stadium; Eliminator 1 (Lahore Qalandars v Peshawar Zalmi); Gaddafi Stadium

Sunday, 15 Nov – Eliminator 2 ((loser Qualifier v winner Eliminator 1); Gaddafi Stadium

Tuesday, 17 Nov – Final; Gaddafi Stadium

Pak vs Zim is pretty much finalized only exact dates are to be decided. Pak LOI tour of SA is not confirmed yet considering the Covid 19 situation in SA. Pak tour of NZ is also finalized as per NZ cricket.

-> After that SA tour of Pakistan is planned with 2 tests and 3 T20s for Jan - Feb 2021.
-> PSL 2021 will take place after that.
-> Pak will be touring Zimbabwe for 2 tests and 3 T20s in April.
-> Then Pak's LOI tour of England is planned for Jul 2021.
-> Afghanistan vs Pak is scheduled for Sep consisting of 3 ODIs
-> Pak will tour BD for 2 tests and 3 T20s.
-> WI will tour Pak in Dec 2021 for LOIs.

This is the planned FTP as of now.

In June 2021 we will visit windies for 3 tests which I believe will be a good and tricky series for this team.

What is the deal with these 2 test "series"? PCB continue to try and play as little test matches as possible. There are more T20's and ODI's in this schedule than test matches.

The PCB has dates for the remaining PSL games, but no talk about the remaining Test with BD. Will they have dates for the unplayed test with BD? I think we all know that test will never be played.

    Way to support Tests PCB.

Whats the purpose? To keep the sponsors happy along with tv rights holder?

No one really cares about the completion of the tournament, the idea behind is to milk revenues through completion.

Do you even know why they play sports? The sole purpose is to make money. Without revenue no sport will survive. What's wrong in milking revenue?

But don't you think the PCB are financially screwing themselves up. They will have to bear heavy financial expenses to set up these matches in a bio secure environment, and also the possible travel arrangements of foreign players.

With no crowd and little relevance left for this edition. Their will be less TV viewership. Furthermore, the prizes for players and teams for this edition will need to be handed out as well now. The PCB could be left bankrupt after these matches. Shooting themselves in the foot.

The PCB also need to address the elephant in the room. Broadcasting rights. I think their current international broadcasting deal runs out this year. Perhaps, it is has already run out. They need to look for a deal. The current deal is/was for $150 million.

    ISLAMABAD:

A banking court has asked the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) to launch an inquiry against an investigation officer (IO) for conducting a lopsided probe into the Pakistan Super League (PSL) spot-fixing case.

In its written order issued on Saturday, the court directed the agency to take action against IO Farid Ahmed Khan after concluding the inquiry in a month's time.

A day earlier, the court had rejected the charge-sheet submitted by Khan with regard to scandal that emerged in February during the fifth season of the unconcluded PSL event of 2020.

The court had noted that the IO had earlier claimed that there was substantial evidence against one of the accused Muhammad Faisal alias Chitta but he later retracted that statement, giving the accused a clean-chit while also requesting the court to remove his name from the FIR.

The FIA on February 27 apprehended three persons allegedly associated with an international racket involved in match fixing, money laundering and terror financing.

The accused persons in collaboration with their aides mostly based in other countries and an international racket were engaged in defaming and sabotaging the 5th season of the PSL, a franchise twenty20 cricket league which was established by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) in 2015.

The FIA had initially arrested Mahendar Kumar, Naresh Kumar alias KG and Naresh Kumar alias Jani in an inquiry of the FIA Commercial Banking Circle (CBC) on allegations of keeping benami accounts, money laundering, and parallel banking practices.

The agency had also apprehended Muhammad Faisal alias Chitta, Ahmed Armaghan, Hanif Shaikh and Muhammad. These accused are still in custody while some other accused – Jabbar Amin, Aftab Ahmed alias Atif Dollar, Waqas alias Prince, Talha Siddiqui and Noman Ali – have been granted bail.

Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has directed Pakistan Super League (PSL) franchises to submit financial guarantees for the tournament’s sixth edition by 25 September 2020.

The PCB had followed this process for the league’s first four editions as well.

However, it decided to abandon it for the fifth edition after team owners argued that the league has become stable and PCB should trust them with fulfilling the financial obligations for the league.

As a result, the PCB had accepted post-dated cheques from the team owners for the fifth edition of the PSL. Reportedly, two PSL franchises had failed to fulfill their financial commitments for PSL 5.

The PCB had also decided to seek a two-year guarantee instead of one in case a franchise fails to fulfill its financial obligations. Only time will tell whether PCB will ask these teams to submit financial guarantees or post-dated cheques.
