    Pakistan v Zimbabwe | 1st ODI | Rawalpindi | 30th October, 2020 | Pakistan innings

Pakistan host Zimbabwe in Rawalpindi for the first of three ODIs on Friday with the ICC Cricket World Cup Super League at stake.

    Overview:
    Pakistan v Zimbabwe, 1st ODI
    Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium, Rawalpindi
Friday, 30 October, 12.30pm local time, 07.30am GMT

Cricket in Pakistan resumes with the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup Super League matches against Zimbabwe, the first ODI games that will be played in the country since the limited-overs series against Bangladesh was abandoned earlier this year. The entire series will be played in Rawalpindi, which will host an ODI for the first time since 2006. The venue did see a Test match earlier in the year when Pakistan hosted Bangladesh in February.

Both teams are aware of the context that the Super League brings to bilateral ODIs with Pakistan head coach, Misbah-ul-Haq, skipper Babar Azam and Zimbabwe senior player, Elton Chigumbura stressing on it in the build-up to the series.

Pakistan are without newly anointed vice-captain Shadab Khan after he suffered a leg injury in the intra-squad warm-up match in Lahore. He will be monitored over the week and is expected to be available for the remainder of the series. Azam will lead the Pakistan ODI team for the first time since being appointed as permanent skipper over a year ago.

Zimbabwe too have a new skipper in 34-year-old all-rounder Chamu Chibhabha. The team will be eager to make a mark despite their head coach Lalchand Rajput giving the series a skip. Former international and current bowling coach, Douglas Hondo will take over as head coach for the series.

    Remember the last time:

Zimbabwe last played an ODI in Pakistan in 2015. However, the two teams played a full-fledged five-match ODI series in Zimbabwe in 2018. The visitors will want to improve their questionable record in the country in this format. After 19 ODIs against Pakistan in their backyard, Zimbabwe have just one win. The overall record is also in favour of Pakistan, who have won 52 of the 59 matches between these teams.

A lot has changed for both the teams, notably on the leadership front. While Sarfaraz Ahmed was the skipper the last time Pakistan played an ODI, it was Sean Williams leading the side for Zimbabwe.

    What they said:

Elton Chigumbura (Zimbabwe all-rounder): "It's important that we have to play to win, not to just compete. So all those mindsets are things that we have spoken about in training and everyone is aware of what we need to do as a team and as individuals when it comes to these international games. Hopefully we start on a good note."

Babar Azam (Pakistan captain): "It's a great honour for me to be able to captain Pakistan in ODI cricket. The ICC league gives every series context, with seven qualifying berths up for grabs. So, we want to put as many points on the board as possible so when we get to the World Cup, people talk about us seriously. In 2011, we qualified for the semi-finals and in 2019, we couldn't get through. I don't think the rankings matter but I want us to start well and I fully trust my team to perform well and qualify."

Abid Ali clearly doesn't have the game to play limited overs cricket at the international level.
He was not good enough to be in Central Punjab first XI in T20's captained by Babar Azam. So how can he be good enough to play ODI'S. That also clearly shows how Misbah is deciding everything on his own and his love for not good enough old players will never end.

High time for him to start performing
He should work on his batting and start scoring runs and should gives us 6 to 7 overs at 4.5 or 5 rpo with a couple of wickets.
We badly need an all rounder

Sometimes I wonder whether Misbah is simply aiming to troll all Pakistan fans with his selections. In an era where teams get off to blistering starts in ODI cricket, and openers include the likes of Aaron Finch, Jason Roy, Bairstow etc, Misbah drops the one attacking opener we do have and replaces him with ancient Abid. I am no fan of Fakhar, but at the end of the day ODI's are his strongest format, whilst Abid is another pensioner who won't even be around by 2023 WC and whose technique was brutally exposed in England.

At the same time, we're still seeing pensioners like Iftikhar getting a long rope ahead of talent such as Khushdil, Haider and Abdullah Shafique. I would have preferred Gohar over Qadir, but for gods sake at least give a spinner who actually spins the ball a chance to play. Honestly even the selection of Wahab is god awful, he'll be 38-39 years old by the time the next World Cup rolls around, and if you expect him to be bowling at 140+ at that age, you're in for a real shock.

Honestly, I'm holding out hope we lose at least one ODI against this Zimbabwe side, but then again Misbah might decide we need more 'experience' and bring back Rahat Ali in place of Rauf/Hasnain. This shameless man needs to be shown the door as soon as possible

Just don't know what's the point playing these seniors, what new we know about them which we already don't, and when will we ever give chances to youngsters like Haider and shafiq, vs NZ in seaming conditions, our selection are complete opposite to rational thinking, we are our biggest enemies. And then we wonder what's wrong with our team and why we can't compete with top teams of the world.

Misbah really is a pathetic, insecure individual. We’re playing Zimbabwe FGS.

Wahab shouldn’t even be playing ODI cricket. He isn’t going to be around in 2023, so I don’t see the point in playing him against the mighty Zimbabwe.

Imam and Abid are pretty much identical batsman. Who in there right mind wouldn’t have Haider up at the top?

And the likes of Iftikhar in the middle order. What’s this 40 year old grandpa gonna do in 2023. Why wouldn’t you play Khushdil (don’t rate him too either, but he’s put up some decent performances in recent times) who performs pretty much exactly the same role.

    Shame on Babar and Misbah.

Unless there’s an early collapse Zimbabwe’s batting line up is capable of scoring 200-250 need a decent score here.

There's a PCB stream on YouTube, quality is okay. If you're in Pakistan and have access to SuperSport, I think they might be showing this game as well now that they have a deal with the PCB

Remove this oldie lover Misbah for God's sake. His actions and words don't match at all. If we are preparing for 2023 WC what are oldies doing in squad. Why be so defensive again Zimbabwe. Arthur brought out Fakhar in the middle of CT and look where we went. He had enough of Ahmad Shehzad in one match itself. Misbah is in awe of these oldies. I would take anyone over this cancerous individual. Anyone remember how he was against Shaheen selection in WC. Eng played a C squad against us while as look at us.

Don't think we can score 300. If Zimbabwe restrict us under 270 they can win this match.
That what defensive coach can do. Install fear among players' mind.
