Composed young guy with strong basics. Will ease into the team with consistent opportunities.
But certainly has that extra gear that Imam so obviously lacks.

Seems well suited to ODI's. Funny how he hasn't played a single LA match yet.
Definitely better than other openers we have tried in last 2 3 years like Farhan etc.

Outstanding prospect mashallah! The elegance of his strokeplay is just a treat to watch. Reminded me of Barbar with those silky smooth cover drives.

I am very excited about the future of Pakistani cricket. For too long we were stuck with total no hopes like Ahmed Shehzad and Umar Akmal. Finally we have some exceptional talent coming through in Abdullah, Haider and Kushdil. What's more, they couldn't possibly ask for a better batsman to guide them all than Barbar. The future looks bright.

Probably too slow a pairing, its best to start fast from the off, would prefer one big hitting left hander in one of the opening slots.

Makes sense to have Haider open with one of them. Having both Abdullah and Babar in the top 3 isn't too worrying as Hafeez, Khushdil and Imad are there to pick the pace up when required.

at the moment shafiq, babar, haider, hafeez, khushdil, shadab seems like a decent top six (not sure abt the actual order), three aggressive batsmen in the top six. rizwan and imad to be used as necessary, with three bowlers to round up the xi.

Hafeez is not a bad option if utilised as a backup or he comes in to compliment the youth,it’s a problem when he actually takes up their place in the line up.

I am not telling that Talat is better than Haris. Undoubtedly Haris is superior, but a liability in the team at the same time. He just does not have the fitness to play any longer, regardless of how superior he bats.
Instead, invest in someone who a) is younger, b ) has good fitness and work ethics, c) who can be improved to be a handy batsman with time.

Talat is there not as a replacement of Haris, but as a replacement of Hafeez. When Hafeez really retires in a few years, Talat can be brought back into the team as a permanent all-rounder. Harris is no longer in the counting anymore. With his fragile fitness, Hafeez should be the first choice for selection.
Talat is just a temporary replacement of Hafeez, so that he can take the baton when he finally retires.

He is very good. However, doesnt have the reactions and wristyness of Babar, so people who are rating him above him need to review their thoughts.
He should become part of odi's and tests pretty soon. But he will have to work really hard to stake a claim in the t20 side.

Agreed. Off course babar is better its just 1 poster here who is known for over hyping. I am hoping him and saud shakeel replace azhar and shafiq along with haider replacing fawad in our test team.

Nice side. Like the six bowler option. Impressive early outing for Qadir. Better players will play him better and also, like every bowler, will get smashed at times on modern wickets. But I like his tricks

Main thing we are crying out for in T20 cricket is a hard hitting wicket keeper. You have gone Zeeshan Ashraf. If Azam Khan can actually keep [has kept in first class cricket], then he should be heads and shoulders above others for this format already.

Yes, very very similar to Mahela. Clutch player and really good at rotating the strike. Go-to shot against pacers is leg-side flick and against spin itís inside-out over cover.

Hopefully Haider-Babar-Abdullah can be similar to Dilshan-Sanga-Mahela.

As I said in the other thread yesterday and his ******* jumped on me, he is an Imam type player, which is no bad thing. He is organised with a brilliant technique and can be a consistent batsman for us across all formats.

However watching him bat with Haider and Khushdil showed the difference in power.

Not sure where Abdullah fits into the t20 team going forward. Ofcourse Babar opens and Haider has cemented his place at 3. I would prefer an aggressive opener / pinch hitter with Babar. Fakhar / Sharjeel would have been ideal but neither looks in form. Then there's Hafeez at 4. Abdullah cannot play at 5 so I wonder what happens.

Perhaps Haider to open and Abdullah at 3.

If Haider gets a go as opener for few matches in NZ (Cant think of many other options available for that aggressive opener slot, if Fakhar is dropped) with Babar then Abdullah can be one down.

    Babar (C)
    Haider
    Abdullah
    Hafeez
    Khushdil
    Shadab
    Imad/ Faheem
Rizwan (WK, can be moved up if consolidation is required)
    Wahab/ Amir/ Hasan
    Shaheen
    Hasnain/ Rauf/ Qadir

So something like that can be tried for NZ.

I guess we can. He just doesn't have the required power game IMO and a top 3 with 2 low SR players (Babar and Abdullah) will not be okay, I think. I am willing to give it a shot though.

You're right, though half his matches have been against Bangladesh and Zimbabwe. He batted slow in England (SR of 124) which may have warped my perception.

Ben though it was a dead rubber, I am impressed to see Babar not come out and bat and Hafeez as well as Wahab rested for this game.

Shafiq played a good innings kushdil should have let him get to a 50 on debut but still a great innings to watch.

He is a special talent. But talent alone doesn't get you there. He'll need to show commitment and work hard. Hopefully Babar Azam will be his role model.

Some of his shots remind you of some Indian superstars which tells you the basis is there. Just needs to focus and improve his overall game.

Main thing we are crying out for in T20 cricket is a hard hitting wicket keeper. You have gone Zeeshan Ashraf. If Azam Khan can actually keep [has kept in first class cricket], then he should be heads and shoulders above others for this format already.
Thereís actually 7 bowling options in that lineup if you include Hafeez, a bit unnecessary if you ask me. 3 pacers and 4 spinners. Since Hafeez is guaranteed at number 4, we can easily drop one of Shadab, Qadir, or Imad to accommodate one more batsman which adds fantastic depth to what is already a great lineup, reducing it to 6 bowling options and increasing it to 9 batsmen (including Wahab) who can smash the ball for 6.

Iíve personally gone with Iftikhar because he has unassailable stats as finisher in National T20 cup, and believe he deserves a rope, but I know people dislike him. In either case, an extra batsman can be added to that lineup!

This! No point wasting him in the powerplay where there is a greater risk of him getting out against the moving ball. Let him come in at 1 down (usually 4th-8th over where he will play a mix of pace and spin)

I'd say technically Abdullah is a lot better than Imam. This would be proven if they both made the ODI team and played in NZ. That said I doubt Misbah would take the risk.

Absolutely agree with you, and I think that is pretty much our usual 1st choice line up. 5 bat + Shadab, Imad, Rizwan + 3 seamers. Ifti also has earned his spot from the australia series and other performances since.

The team he offered is an interesting alternative for me. Especially if these batsmen start to deliver.. but agree, the line up he offered is just a variation that could be used in certain circumstances. Hafeez, I donít think counts as a bowler anymore.

If you agree with me on Iftikhar, then to be honest Hafeez and Iftikhar can be 6th and 7th bowling options. Also instead of Rizwan, the difference between my proposed lineup and the standard team would be Zeeshan Ashraf, potentially speaking (which is in common with that lineup posted earlier) - but as opener! It allows Haider to come in at 1 down where I feel he is better suited and also adds a middle order slot:

    1. Babar Azam (c)
    2. Zeeshan Ashraf (wk)
    3. Haider Ali
    4. Mohammad Hafeez
    5. Shadab Khan (vc)
    6. Khushdil Shah
    7. Iftikhar Ahmed
    8. Imad Wasim
    9. Wahab Riaz
    10. Mohammad Hasnain/Haris Rauf/Mohammad Amir
    11. Shaheen Afridi

Also on second thought, Khushdil is actually a decent left arm spinner and can be the 8th option.

Is that a little crazy? 8 bowling options and batting till 9?

    Abdullah
    Babar
    Haider
    Hafeez
    Khushdil
    Shadab
    Imad
    Rizwan
    Wahab/Hasnain

We can afford both Abdullah and Babar to form a solid pair at the top, if that means we have the likes of Haider, Hafeez, Khushdil, Shadab to follow.

With Fakhar failing and Sharjeel not setting the world on fire by any means in the NT20, I think Abdullah is the guy.

Imam has really tightened up his technique over the past year and also plays some exquisite shots. I don’t think the gap between them is as big as you say though obviously Imam is a few years ahead.

Abdullah has a much higher ceiling, but yeah Imam is obviously ahead in his development by virtue of experience.

Don't think people should be that critical of him and write him off that quick. I'm sure most of us remember people thinking Babar wasn't good enough for T20s... Not saying he'll be as good as Babar but if we've selected the youngster let's try and back him

He is very inexperienced. Has barely played a handful of domestic games , but a lot of people were calling him to selected for the national team ! I posted a while ago that I have never known for a batsman in the Pakistan team to debut after such little domestic experience.

It will be potentially a tough tour for him due to the lack of experience but as long as he can learn from this then it will benefit him in the long run.

Pakistan needs to set a rule of not selecting a batsman before they've played a full season of FC cricket. Shafique is a wonderful talent but he's not ready for international cricket in SENA conditions at this stage of his career
