Should Australia look beyond Starc for ODIs?
Mitchell Starc has exellent stats in WC matches. However, outside that, he constantly goes over 7 RPO even in Aus.
As a captain, you would not get 390 to defend every match. Considering WC 2023 to be held in subcontinent, as a captain would you give ball to Starc if opposition require 25 in 2 overs in a semifinal of a WC?

Yes, I would. Starc is a wicket-taker and has economy of 5.18. He has also been brilliant in death overs.
Only the last two games were absymal for him on all accounts.
Go outside Australia, Sir Josh Hazelwood and Sir Pat Cummins will look mediocre in ODIs. With bat, Sir Steve Smith might also struggle.

He had 3 spells today, the 2nd one when Kohli and Iyer where batting was a very good spell and the dot balls took the game away from India.
Overall, he’s been terrible in these last 2 games.
Maybe they should not discard him, however swap him with Cummins as the new ball bowler with Hazlewood.

You yourself mention that he has beastly WC stats. So of course the captain would back him to deliver in a WC.

Yesterday someone made a thread about Shami being the world's best ODI bowler when he was the least bad in the Indian bowling line up and now this. Too many kneejerk reactions.

Starc is still world class, two bad games won't change that.

Any captain would love to have a wicket-taker like Starc in his arsenal.

He is a world class odi bowler. Want to make that clear.
ODI. TOP 3. bowling for fast bowlers is difficult on flat Pattas as bowl comes onto the bat too easy. That's why Starc, bumrah, Shami etc all struggled.
Hazelwood takes place of the bowl and is slower than the rest. Cummins was a surprise in the second game but he did bowl under the lights which is easier.
Average bowlers like pandya, Henriques, stoinis and zampa bowled better. So they are better than starc bumrah ROFL ?Last edited by tyron_woodley; 30th November 2020 at 08:11.

Yes replace him because he's probably the best over ODI bowler with 184 wickets in 96 matches, and 49 of those coming in 18 matches in world cup. He's out of form for a couple of games, there is nothing more to it.

This the king of all Knee jerk reaction threads.Lol
Starc is probably a contender for ODI GOAT , just because he got annihilated in one or two series you want
him out of the side.

No.
He’s up against a good batting line up on flat pitches.
