    Australia v India | 3rd ODI | Canberra | 2 December | Match Discussion

Two high-scoring games at Sydney saw Australia take an unassailable 2-0 lead in the series, but there are still Cricket World Cup Super League points up for grabs in the final ODI.

    Overview

    Australia vs India, 3rd ODI
    Manuka Oval, Canberra
Wednesday, 2 December, 02.40pm local time, 03.40am GMT

David Warner and Pat Cummins' absence will give India hope as they head into the final ODI of the series at the Manuka Oval on Wednesday. The Aussies have never lost an international game at the venue in six attempts, including four ODIs, and will be favourites to seal a 3-0 series win and affirm their position at the top of the ICC Men's Cricket World Cup Super League table.

India are yet to start their account in the tournament and will hope to get their first points in the Super League table with Wednesday's clash. They have lost five ODIs on the trot, a sequence that goes back to the beginning of the series in New Zealand at the start of the year. The visitors will likely make team changes for the final ODI.

Shubman Gill could get a game at the expense of Mayank Agarwal as India experiment with options at the top of the batting order in Rohit Sharma's absence. Hardik Pandya starting to bowl, even in a restricted manner, has given India slightly better options in terms of balancing their team.

But it's the bowling attack that could see more changes. Yuzvendra Chahal could be benched to give Kuldeep Yadav a run in the side. Jasprit Bumrah might also be rested considering the workload coming up with one of Shardul Thakur or T Natarajan slotting into the starting XI.

Australia, meanwhile, will have two forced changes with Warner injured and Cummins rested for the remainder of the limited-overs leg. Marnus Labuschagne has put his hand up to open the batting in Warner's absence, but it's likely that the Aussies would go to Matthew Wade who has donned the role before. Sean Abbott could replace Pat Cummins in the bowling department.

    Remember the last time

India have conceded opening stands of 156 and 142 in the first two ODIs on this tour with Aaron Finch and Warner making merry. But it isn't just the openers who have thrived. In the last game at Sydney, each of Australia's top-five batters made 50-plus scores, only the second time in ODI history that has happened. India's bowlers have struggled to pick up wickets at regular intervals and have ended up conceding two of their highest totals against Australia in the format in the first two games of the series.

    What they said:

Aaron Finch (Australia captain): "You have to understand his (Mitchell Starc) standards are a lot higher than what you expect from most other people because of how dominant he's been over the last eight to nine years, especially in the white-ball formats. He's been super."

Shreyas Iyer (India batsman): ďI thrive under pressure. It really motivates me to go against them. They set attacking fields which really helps me to score runs, so I take advantage of that and I see to it that I make the best use of it."

India might have lost the series but there are still plenty of buddy-buddy points to be gained from the Aussies

Expect the Indians to be forcing the 'IPL banter' during the game tomorrow and Australia humouring them while coasting to a whitewash.

2 hammerings for the Indian bowlers so far.

It'll take some effort to avoid a third one.

Canberra is historically is the highest scoring ground in the country. I reckon if Warner wasn't out there was a shot at 400+.

India may have to play its full team again to try and salvage some pride. Tough decisions ahead with team selection.

Bumrah and Shami should not play IMO

I donít think India will mind too much. Trophies are what matter, not these bilateral series, and a few of these Indians like Bumrah and Pandya have already won the most important trophy this year.

The phainty will continue and may even get worse.

Last ODI series in Australia (2018) that India won was an exception. So was the 2008 CB series.

Outside of these two, India has never matched Australia in Australia.

Indian spinners lose all their effectiveness in Australia/NZ and that's a big blow.

You cannot stop carnage in the last 10-15 overs when the opposition has 7-8 wickets in hand.

Also, unfair to target Bumrah and Starc. Both are world class and are having some tough times on totally unresponsive pitches against some very good batsmen. Ironically when SENA produce flat wickets, bowlers are blamed for their lack of penetration but when Asian wickets produce high scoring games, there are calls for more balance between the bat and ball.

I donít think either of Bumrah or Starc has bowled particularly well even if this wasnít a flat wicket. Starc has been especially bad.

The genuine followers are hurt. Also, I believe this is Virat's 8th or 9th consecutive loss and he must be concerned about Rohit's growing popularity, especially after what happened at the IPL.

It's pretty clear to me from the outside that Rohit should be captain. At least in T20Is. hasn't he won like 3 IPL titles? Kohli is not a good captain.

SCG was fastest wicket in Australia before WACA hosted first Test in 1970. Till early 1980s, it was MCG with the dullest of Australian wickets; but later SCG became drier.

However, thatís for Test wickets - Australian ODI wickets are becoming the flattest freeways in world; if the ground size were like UK, and outfield as quick as India, 400 could have been per there.

Dhawan took too much of the strike. Guess Warner and Finch were pretty good.
Good opportunity for gill to score on this flat track.

In Australia, in ODI's he hasn't scored against Starc, Hazlewood and Cummins (at least two playing). Have to watch but I think never won a single ODI against them in Australia.

Supposing what you say is correct, that makes that's OP's post true regarding him, right?

And we weren't missing the best ODI batsman in the world in the first couple of ODI's that we lost?

LOL he wouldn't have done zilch here. It's your awful bowling that lost you the match. How many times have India chased those big scores??

But according to some posters he is playing against a second string Aussie attack. So this innings will be buried for sure even if he plays a good innings.

Gill looks unconvincing to me. Maybe he will score runs and if given a long rope, can improve his game/find a higher gear. My prediction: He can be a solid player with a 80% career SR, which is not bad but not great either. But as long as he has good work ethic, he can be invested into.

Nothing wrong, Kohli's love against poor australian bowling is well known. Whenever he had at least 2 good fast bowlers in the line up he hasn't done anything. And it's not 2 or 3 games, it's a lot of games.
Just look how is switched on today.

So there's an excuse for the Aussies missing Smith and Warner in our last tour to Australia. But us missing the best ODI batsman in the world in this ODI series means nothing?

Second string or not, playing Australia in Australia is always tough no matter who they field. Besides you don't need to be an expert to see that he's got some serious talent and he's here for the long run. India's got a good one in him.

I thought you give more importance to test cricket? Kohli has smashed Starc, Cummins and Hazelwood on even more a difficult pitch at Perth in 2018 where both teams struggled to reach 250

India can look to end their 7 match losing streak here.
Shane warne thinks kohli is a better odi bat than sachin, i tend to agree tbh.
