Will Virat Kohli be able to break Sachin Tendulkar's record for most Test tons?

While SRT has 51 Test Tons, Virat currently stands at Number 4 in all time Test Tons for India with 27 Tons.

Considering that Kohli is almost 33 Years old , does he have enough time to surpass Sachin Tendulkar in Number of Tons ? Or how many tons do you think he will reach by end of his Test Career ?

Since VK is almost 33 years old, it's interesting to see how International batsmen in the past have fared after they reached the same age untill the end of their Careers.

As the records suggest, Younis Khan has the highest number of Centuries after the age of 33 which goes to show how well he performed as he got older. Virat Kohli needs 25 Tons to go past SRT so he would have to preform better than any batsmen in the age range of 33-40 has done in the past.

I don't see Kohli getting to 51 centuries. But he can get close to 40 centuries and that would be an outstanding achievement for someone who people thought 4/5 years ago would struggle at test cricket lol.

Considering his current form , I would be surprised if he reaches anywhere around 40 centuries leave alone 51 .

No I don't see him even come close to 51 Test centuries. At most he'll get to like mid 40 tons

Virat will not reach more than 40 tons and he doesn't need to. Gone are the times when you play 150 tests.

However, these stats prove that Younis Khan is the greatest batsman of all-time, along the same lines as Tendulkar, Lara ,Viv, Bradman, Smith and Kohli.

He is better than Waugh, Ponting, Dravid, Miandad, de Villiers, Cook, Clarke, Ganguly and Jayasuriya.

Considering that he is missing more tests than he is playing, he'll do very well to reach 40 test tons.

Would be mightily pleased though if he eclipses Tendulkar's test tons record.

In the age range of 33-40 , Younis Khan was among the best of the best. I was surprised when I checked for the Stats and found Younus Khan at the top with highest number of Centuries for Batsmen older than 33+.

Considering there have been claims of him fudging his age , it makes his record even more spectacular as he got better and better with age.

    Might respect for the Khan.

Kohli should skip some of the useless Bi-Laterals and even IPL to prolong his Test Career. He can easily play more Test matches if he prioritizes the format over IPL and Odi matches outside of WC.

He can skip a few bilaterals. IPL is out of question, it won't even happen without Kohli.

Also, I expect that very soon Kohli will be prioritising important tests only and skip the less relevant ones lke home games vs WI or BD.

    Forget about 51 test tons.
Comparing with Sachin itself is a great achievement for any cricketer.
So many batsmen compared with Sachin but finally one and only Kohli standout.

Kohli was mediocre test players during his first few years, he changed gears after 2013/14.
I will be happy even if he end up 35 test tons.

Don’t think Kohli has another 25 Test tons left in him.

Unless BCCI organise a few home and away series against Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Zimbabwe and Sri Lanka and Kohli decides to play through all of them.

He will eclipse Tendulkar's tons tally in ODIs..probably runs tally too.

In tests, it's going to be very very difficult. But it's not impossible still. Tendulkar played till 40. Kohli has 7 years with him if he also plans to play till 40. 3 centuries per year sounds doable but we all know the mental and physical toll of playing till 40 at the highest level is some thing else which is precisely why Tendulkar is the greatest ever after Bradman. His achievements are gigantic considering he did it across both formats and he did not miss out in the world cups. He dominated 3 of them as the best batsman. No batsman has dominated even 2 World cups

Only Sachin and his fans had the "greed" for personal records.

Be it like Dhoni, Kohli will eventually be sidelined. He won't play just for the sake of it.

No, I doubt that Kohli will reach 51 Test Centuries primarily because a lot of focus will be on the white ball formats in the coming years, and since India is playing them at home, they will shift almost all their focus there to make sure that they win.

Kohli will play only 100 more innings at most. He would need to score a century every 4th innings. He hasnt done it till now and i wont think he will acheive that consistency as he gets older. Btw be on the lookoit for joe root he is in line to break tendulkars test runs record.

Joe root is already 30 and only got halfway of Sachinís Test runs. He has to maintain his form for some 6-7 years to breach Sachinís record which I am not sure he is capable of.

Heard the same about Cook too and at that time also I said Cook will retire before he has any chance of breaking Sachin's records. Sachin was consistent throughout his career and if some fans think that it was because of his greed then I can only laugh at those delusional fans.

I hope he wont got for that and graciously retire once his time is up. All our Fab five stayed beyond their validity and Dhoni should have retired after the 2015 world cup. This individual glory-chasing subcontinental culture should die soon. Hope Kohli could do that by example once he reaches his end.

@jeeteshssaxena What's wrong in saying that Kohli hasn't achieved even half of Sachin in tests based on stats? At least look at their stats, the kind of teams they faced and not to mention the kind of bowling attacks they faced. Kohli had it easy but still he has underachieved in test format. Kohli's average is going down. 2-3 years ago I posted a statement on this forum that Kohli should stop playing in IPL to prolong his test career and keep himself mentally fit. That still stays true. He has been wasting his precious performances in pyjama leagues and thinks he has achieved everything as a leader. Sachin never had that thinking. He was hungry for runs throughout his career. You think longevity is a joke and if Kohli plays the same amount of matches as Sachin did he will outperform him but that is not how this world works lol. Relax Sachin is an Indian player too.

Officially itís 2+ years now since his last century. A real shame for a player of his caliber.

I donít think at this rate heís gonna get there.

27 centuries in 9 years (including Peak Kohli)

Itís difficult to get 24 in 4 years (considering his current form and age)

But Iíd expect him to reach 40 centuries

If you asked me that question 5 years ago, I might have said yes.

But, I am not sure about now. His form seems to have declined. Also, age is perhaps catching up.

    So, the answer is no.

Kohli needs to hit another purple patch like SRT (2009-11).
Most probably he will reach close to 40 test hundreds.
Sachin's records are proving too big mountain to climb for everyone.
