Joe Biden: President of the United States
President-elect Joe Biden's inaugural committee on Sunday announced there would be a virtual parade after the swearing-in ceremony on Inauguration Day as part of efforts to keep crowds to a minimum amid the coronavirus pandemic.
The televised, virtual parade will feature performances in communities across the country, the committee said in a news release, much like the virtual program at the Democratic National Convention, which was forced to go online over the summer in efforts to keep the virus from spreading.
"The parade will celebrate America's heroes, highlight Americans from all walks of life in different states and regions, and reflect on the diversity, heritage, and resilience of the country as we begin a new American era," the inaugural committee said in the release. The committee said it would announce participants in the coming weeks.
The inaugural committee has urged Americans not to travel for Biden and Vice President-elect Kamala Harris' inauguration on January 20. The committee said earlier this month that Biden and Harris would take their oaths of office at the US Capitol in Washington, DC, during a significantly scaled-down ceremony that will feature stringent health and safety protocols.
After the swearing-in ceremony, Biden, Harris, incoming first lady Jill Biden and incoming second gentleman Doug Emhoff will participate in a pass in review on the East Front of the US Capitol with members of the military, the committee said on Sunday.
"Pass in Reviews are a long-standing military tradition that reflect the peaceful transfer of power to a new Commander-in-Chief, during which the President-elect, hosted by the Commander of Joint Task Force-National Capital Region, will review the readiness of military troops. Every branch of the military will be represented in this event," the committee said. Participants will practice social distancing and there will be "vigorous health and safety protocols in place," according to the committee.
In another attempt to keep crowds to a minimum, as the death toll in the US continues to climb amid the pandemic, Biden will receive a presidential escort from 15th Street in Washington, DC, to the White House, "providing the American people and world with historic images of the President-elect proceeding to the White House without attracting large crowds and gatherings," according to the committee.
The committee said every branch of the military will be represented in the presidential escort, "including The U.S. Army Band, a Joint Service Honor Guard, and the Commander-in-Chief's Guard and Fife and Drum Corps from the 3rd U.S. Infantry 'The Old Guard.'"
Last week, the committee announced it would be hosting a national memorial to remember and honor the lives lost to Covid-19 and invited cities and towns around the country to participate. The memorial will take place at 5:30 p.m. ET on January 19 and will include a lighting ceremony at the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool in Washington, DC, the committee said.
As coronavirus cases spike across the country, Biden's inaugural committee has said it was consulting with medical experts and that it has hired professional staff to focus on health and safety protocols in order to hold a safe event. Dr. David Kessler, the former commissioner of the Food and Drug Administration who has been advising Biden on the pandemic, has joined the planning committee as its chief medical adviser.
In order to pull off the virtual programming, the committee has brought on Stephanie Cutter and Ricky Kirshner as executive producers, and Rod O'Connor as a senior adviser. They will work with other professionals who also helped produce the Democratic convention, as well as past presidential inaugurations, Super Bowl halftime shows and the Tony Awards.

I think its evident these are puppets not leaders. You cant have an old man who doesnt know what day of the week it is holding the nuclear football. He will no doubt continue helping to bankrupt the US, thats his job.

Obama was meant to bring change, he divided USA further.
You are right, barring Trump, there is just hope, because it's more or less the same with US Presidents (barring Trump). Biden is basically an extension of a failed Obama administration.
A 78 year old candidate (Biden) was the best bet? Biden may raise USA stature at the international level, by waging a few more wars, but domestically he's the worst possible choice, and is the lesser of 2 evils.
Your lefty looney Americans couldn't even call their own state correctly, what chance have they got in understanding reality?
Austerity will guarantee the rise of the right. As @Robert said, even if Trump doesn't run in 2024, he will create a media platform ushering in a Trump dynasty. 70M+ votes are banking on it.

There is no need to respect a man who is in charge of a nation whose policies hurt millions around the world. The point was he Biden is not a healthy person for many reasons, someone like him should never be in charge and have so much power as he does.
Besides US and UK leaders are mere puppets , their policies are made by others.

The US policy is geared towards their military industry which needs a war either with the US involved or needs wars to sell weapons to. Its worth nearly a trillion dollars each year and employs millions of Americans directly or indirectly. A lot of people laugh at the Soviets for dedicating their economy to the military and thus sinking their nation, the US does the same in many respects but is simply able to absorb the $$$$$ pressure due to its enormous economy.
The evidence is all around the globe. They have military bases in Japan, Okinawa is full of US soldiers (33%). Every continent has massive amount of US bases. To reduce those or scale back the US military apparatus around the world would cause them losses in the hundreds of billions. So no US president can really act to reduce their military footprint. Obama wanted Guantamo closed, its still there. Trump wanted the troops back, they're still there.
The UK still has far greater accountability than the US in my opinion and its military has gradually been scaled back completely. I believe the last British troops in Germany for instance are packing up.
I absolutely hate Trump for all his nonsense and the empowerment he gave the racists, especially in UK, to stir up trouble. But while Biden won't be that much of a racist, internationally I see the same policies continuing. Iran peace deal would be great again but perhaps all the damage has already been done.
I might be wrong ofcourse but this is my take.

You use diplomatic langauge but I prefer to be blunt. The US is the world biggest terrorist and arguably the biggest in history. Its foriegn policies esp around the middle east are based on what Israel needs and Israel wants. The UK also follows Zionist policies and now this new Labour leader who was funded by them will continue to do so.
I agree with you the damage has been done in regards to Iran, they have now decided to pursue nuclear weapons, they already may have them but not yet in terms of delivering them on missiles. Killing their general in such fashion has made the world much more dangerous. Iran is not Iraq, its a Shia nation, who see being martyrs a great thing. Any attack on Iran will cause the world to go into a dark place, crashing economies and possibly triggering a new war, a nuclear world war. This is why Im against US leaders who are puppets.

I think the purpose of killing the General was forever sabotaging the Iran deal. As I doubt Iranians would trust any US agreement; as they know it can simply be torn apart by the next Republican. So they will start to enrich uranium, which they are within their rights to, but they will get the blame which is what the US (and the gulf states including Israel) wanted.
Pakistan has to be clever. They have an advantage that Biden is not a bipolar madman who will change his tune and Imran Khan is not a fool like Nawaz. I believe the US is far too distracted with China and COVID to worry Pakistan in any capacity. However I am 100% sure Zardari and Molana Diesel, both of whom begged the last Democrat administration, to support them in their power will now try and up their lobbying games. But I am sure when the Senate elections are done these cretins will be shown the door by the PTI government or neutered to a large extent.

Trump tried to put a little clamp on the Indian lobbies in the U.S., and also on the H1 visa where 100 and thousands of high paying U.S., jobs are taken by techies from India.
Trump wasn't a whole lot successful but at least he tried.
I am sure Biden will reverse that and more U.S., jobs will either be outsourced or the influx of H1 visa workers will continue at it's full flow.

You know most of the H 1 visas are given because there aren't enough American workers to take those jobs in the first place
So why would you want to reduce H 1 visas for shrimp fisheries
Cause Americans don't take that job even if you increase pay
Same goes for other technical jobs we simply don't have enough people to fill those jobs
When we do we'll decrease those H1 or H1B visas and Americans will simply replace those workers
Outsourcing I 100% agree with you is bad only people who like outsourcing are stupid corporate drones
but anti-immigration rehotric is something I don't agree with and is MORE dangerous than even China or Russia

Agree it's a delicate situation for Pakistan with Biden. Him and Harris will pressure Pak to recognise Israel, perhaps even offering a solution on Kashmir in return but these snakes cant be trusted, they have proven time after time their word is worth as much as a chewing gum on the pavement.
Im not sure Biden may even live the next for years. A black/ethnic woman as POTUS will probe lead to more chaos and civil war style shootings.

Yeah I knew you are gonna come up with this reply and to a great extent it is true.
However, you either won't know or perhaps won't agree that the situation is a little more worse than what you may think.
First, in support of your point.
A couple of years before the Covid, there was an executive order from high ups in the govt to hire Americans to cut down on the H1.
This wasn't official but since I was at a position where I could see that unfolding, I noticed that American employers were scrambling to hire American workers. Those who were qualified got quickly picked up, but there also many who were obviously not qualified; but the moto was, "We will train them at job".
However, there was another problem that very few saw coming.... most of them "unqualified and potentially trainable at job" American candidates, failed the drug testing. And hence they couldn't be hired according to companies policies.
Why do you think the govt and states either already have or, they are pushing to legalize the drugs? Is it because science says they are not as harmful as we once thought and they may have some benefits?
Not really! The two main reasons are, govt wants to collect sales tax by making the drugs legal as they yearly spend Billions in an unsuccessful attempt to stop illegal drug sale in the streets So the idea is, lets legalize the drug and collect billions in sales tax as we can't stop the sales either way.
And the second reason, Drug use shouldn't stop you from finding good paying jobs. so let the druggies be put on work places.
So what happens now?
When an applicant fails a drug test, he slams the medical prescription (that many, many doctors easily write for you) on the table, and boom! You as an employer have one less excuse to reject his application.
The "Ban the Box" laws are also being implemented in all major cities where employers are forced to exhaust all their efforts in spending their time and resources and offer the job to the applicant, and ONLY THEN, the employers have the right to perform a criminal background check on the applicant.
And even if an adverse finding is dug out by the investigators, you as an employer must give the applicant 5 business days to explain the circumstances under which he/she committed a crime, got convicted and spent time.
And you an employer, can't easily dismiss the explanation provided by this convicted criminal of an applicant who you have already offered the job. They make it harder and harder for you to refuse him the job.
So yes, there is a HUGE issue here.
However, there is another side to it.
A couple of years ago, I stopped by at an office depot store to pick some office supplies. The store was not busy and I noticed that a young white American guy was at the cashier desk. We had a little chit chat. He had a Masters' Degree in Computer Science.
So naturally, I asked him, what are you doing here?
He said, "Cant get myself hired, Cant find a job in the IT industry".
I was surprised for a short second but then perhaps I already knew why.
The Indian monopoly in the IT industry has gone to a point where in many cases, the recruiter is an Indian, the hiring manager is an Indian (in many cases they have either their own recruiting agencies on a side or they are linked to Indian recruiting agencies), the hiring manager's manager is an Indian and his manager is also an Indian.
So the entire chain is Indians. And in many cases what do they do when they hire? The primarily hire only Indians.
There is a huge bias and hidden discrimination that is not exposed and hardly anyone outside knows about.
You would be lucky if you are not an Indian and your resume even makes it to the pool of possible interview worthy candidates. They simply toss your resume in trash if you are not Indian. Does it happen everywhere? No.
But being in the industry for over 25 years, I have seen these trends in many, many cases.
In my last job about 7 years ago, our division chief was an Indian. And he had about 700 employees of the IT department reporting to him. This included various directors, including myself, project managers, lead developers, QA managers etc.
And I noticed something interesting. In order to cover their rear end from the diversity hogwash, these Indian managers had hired a couple of white guys on the face, and a few Chinese/Koreans developers to carry the diversity flag.
There were some Russians, and then mostly the wives of developers (straight from the kitchen) were hired on QA testing positions.
The entire office smelt like Pakoras. lol
Long time ago, an Indian, a supposedly "Java developer" was moved into my team as the organization was going through a restructuring process. I noticed that he did not know how to put paper in a printer. But there he was! Hired by an Indian, recruiter was an Indian and hiring manager's manager was also Indian. They all knew what was going on and how to play this game.
I think there is a lot of injustice and foul play by some Indians who are here in the IT industry. And it hurts the American jobs.
Why many American kids don't consider IT as their career? Because we have reached to a point that there is a perception out there that this line of work is only for Indians and there are less jobs for us.
And rightly so, many Americans graduates find it hard to get in.
And this is not fair!
So far as legal immigrants are concerned, I think they are the bloodlines of our country.
I have always supported legal immigration and appreciate the hard work these guys put in when they start from scratch in a new country.
And I do this because I am one of them.

Their donors, you can find a list of each donor. You are not living in a free democracy, you are living in a deception where politicians are funded then basing their policies on their funders.
Perfect Example, Labour leaders policies are no different to to Tory.

As usual, the strange Pakistani dichotomy when it comes to US rears it’s head.
I think it will help if we lay out the premise of our arguments here. It’s quite clear there are two main classifications of Pakistanis who engage in Trump or trump vs Biden discussions. American Pakistanis or Pakistanis living in the US is one section and the other section is pretty much Pakistanis anywhere in the world.
I think it’s fair to state we all acknowledge and accept the role US plays in political upheavals and straight up tyranny. But when it comes to right vd left or Trump vs xyz, the difference of opinion manifests itself.
The non American Pakistanis support trump simply because he is an outsider and not establishment because of this perception he went against their usual tyrannical policies. They LITERALLY have no other stake in this discussion and they don’t give a crap about trumps moral and ethical issues, his racism, his islamophobia, his support of Israel, his bone to pick with iran, etc, etc.
The American Pakistanis do not have that luxury as the rest of you guys. We have to be a bit more considerate because our choices affect us and our children and future generations in the country. Trump has done more damage to the fragile and tricky issue of race relations and the balance between non political correctness and straight up discrimination than anybody in the last 40 years.
He has made racism mainstream. White nationalism is now actually considered a legit movement.
So to all those who are just looking in from outside, I hope you guys maintain a rational premise around these discussions because there are quite a few of us here who are actually looking from the inside.Last edited by Stewie; 6th January 2021 at 12:48.

You honestly think the POTUS is a "puppet dictator"? Yes the lobbyists are powerful, but they don't control everything.
If you think Starmer is no different to Johnson, read the Labour manifesto and compare it to the Tory one. Labour do not survive on big business donations but mostly on union subs. And the poor old Lib Dems have neither.

The Democratic Party of US President-elect Joe Biden is on the verge of taking control of the Senate as results come in from two elections in Georgia.
Raphael Warnock, a pastor from Atlanta, is projected to have won one of the seats. The other is on a knife-edge.
If the Democrats win both, Mr Biden will have a much better chance of pushing through his legislative agenda.
The election is being rerun because of Georgia's rule that a candidate must take 50% of the vote in order to win.
None of the candidates in November's general election met that threshold.
Follow our live updates
With 98% of votes counted, US TV networks and the Associated Press news agency called the first of the two races for Mr Warnock.
Control of the Senate in the first two years of Mr Biden's term will be determined by the outcome of the second run-off.
Mr Warnock is set to become the first black senator for the state of Georgia - a slavery state in the US Civil War - and only the 11th black senator in US history.
Claiming victory, he paid tribute to his mother, Verlene, who as a teenager worked as a farm labourer.
"The other day - because this is America - the 82-year-old hands that used to pick somebody else's cotton went to the polls and picked her youngest son to be a United States senator," he said.
Although the Democrats would need to take both seats to gain full control of Congress, the Republican party of outgoing President Donald Trump only needs to win one in order to retain the Senate.

The majority of Obama's votes were from the white demographic.
As for Trump, it wasn't just whites, and white 'racists' who voted for Trump; many Blacks, Latinos, and even women voted for Trump too. Are these non-whites racists too? He gained more votes second time round, does this mean more racists?
I don't think it's fair to say racists voted for Trump. I think hiding behind the excuse of racism is an easy get out of jail free card for those who do not understand, or do not wish to understand why Trump won in 2016.

US lawmakers are set to meet on Wednesday to confirm Joe Biden's victory in the presidential election amid protests from Trump supporters.
A joint session of Congress will count and confirm electoral college votes.
Some Republicans have pledged to support President Donald Trump's efforts to overturn the result by formally objecting at the session, in a bid that is almost certain to fail.
Hundreds of National Guard members are being mobilised.
Supporters of Mr Trump have begun gathering in Washington DC to rally against the certification of his defeat, and counter-protests are expected.
In a tweet on Tuesday, Mr Trump announced that he would be speaking at the "Save America Rally" the following day.
He has refused to concede the 3 November election, repeatedly alleging fraud without providing any evidence.
He has also tried to throw doubt on the integrity of Tuesday's senate run-off vote in the southern, traditionally Republican, state of Georgia. Projections by US TV networks suggest the Democrats have won one of the seats and are neck and neck for the second seat.
If the Democrats win both seats they will have control of the Senate - something that will help Mr Biden push forward his agenda after he is inaugurated as president on 20 January.
What will happen in Congress?
The two houses of Congress - the House of Representatives and the Senate - will hold a joint session on Wednesday, where they will open sealed certificates from the 50 US states containing a record of their electoral votes.
Under the US system, voters cast their ballots for "electors", who in turn formally vote for the candidates weeks after the election. Mr Biden received 306 votes under the electoral college system, to Mr Trump's 232.
Bipartisan representatives from the two chambers will read out the results on Wednesday and do an official count.
There is a split in the Republican party, with dozens of House Republicans and a smaller group of Senators expected to object to the count from some of the key swing states.
Ted Cruz is leading a group of about a dozen senators calling for a 10-day delay to audit unsubstantiated allegations of election fraud.
Vice-President Mike Pence - who as president of the Senate is due to oversee the session and declare Mr Biden the winner - said he welcomed the move.
He stopped short of repeating allegations of fraud but his chief of staff said Mr Pence shared what he called "the concerns of millions of Americans about voter fraud and irregularities".
By US election law, Mr Pence's duty in the proceedings is purely administrative, but Mr Trump has urged his vice-president to "come through".
Objections that are endorsed by a member of the House of Representatives and a member of the Senate must be considered by lawmakers in a two-hour debate, followed by a vote.
However, for an objection to be upheld, a majority in both chambers must vote in favour. Republicans hold the majority in the Senate but some of their members have already said they will not contest the results. Democrats are in the majority in the House.
Top Republicans have said the Senate's role in certifying the election is largely ceremonial and should not be an opportunity for further lengthy debate about the result.
Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell has already recognised Mr Biden's victory and asked other Republicans not to object.
What about the protests?
Thousands of supporters of Mr Trump, including some far-right activists, are expected to join protests in Washington, with crowds beginning to gather on Tuesday.
"I'm just here to support the president," one protester told the Associated Press news agency. "I'm not sure what he can do at this point, but I want to hear what he has to say."
Officials have warned Trump supporters not to carry guns.
Police on Monday arrested the leader of the far-right Proud Boys, charging him with destruction of property related to a previous protest. Enrique Tarrio was later released but a judge ordered him to stay out of Washington.
Mr Tarrio has said on the social media app Parler that the Proud Boys will "turn out in record numbers", referring to his members as "the most notorious group of extraordinary gentlemen".
The National Guard has been requested by Washington DC's mayor to assist local authorities. Officials say the troops will not be armed and will be there to help with crowd management and traffic control.

US election: Donald Trump turns on Mike Pence as he refuses to intervene in election result
US President Donald Trump has turned on his deputy, accusing him of lacking courage after Mike Pence said he would not intervene in the election result.
In a tweet, the president wrote: "Mike Pence didn't have the courage to do what should have been done to protect our Country and our Constitution, giving States a chance to certify a corrected set of facts, not the fraudulent or inaccurate ones which they were asked to previously certify. USA demands the truth!"
Earlier, Mr Trump repeated his claim that the election was stolen from him and called on Mr Pence to "do the right thing" and block the formal confirmation of Joe Biden's presidential win.
But shortly afterwards, the vice president released a letter confirming he does not have such powers and did not believe those powers should be afforded to anyone in his role.
The president's tweet came as thousands of protesters swarmed around the Capitol building, with some reports of demonstrators breaching security and entering the building.
Washington DC's mayor has since ordered a curfew in the city.

in 1800s people desecrated white house and stole valuable items (it wasn't a protest per se but you get the point)
Americans are a bit dehati than other western countries
sure these things didn't happen in modern history and that's concerning but rioting in DC wasn't uncommon
so we cant really say that its extremely concerning and we should be scared of a coup or something
It happened before and it'll probably happen again nothing to be afraid of

Lol bro you had to go to 1800s to find a similar example, this is unprecedented stuff from Trump supporters, I didn’t have much issues with Trump but man he has done everything worst that his critics thought he would.. which is so sad coz I thought it was exaggerated- egg on my face

all I am saying is people calm down, take a chill pill
sure it doesn't look good on trump and his legacy
but to suggest it'll impact the system in any way shape or form is a big NO!
and I am binging these examples to tell that system is strong enough to withstand such stupidity even in an era with no communication
so US and its democracy is not at all at risk
there wont be a coup or delay in inauguration
if people suggest that MAGA boys can do that than its nothing but a hogwash and don't listen to them
cause it simply wont happen

But any intelligent American who still thinks Trump is a good president even after his B* attempt to bully the system than
than a HUGE Lanat on his face!

Yeah not denying that I genuinely believe in US’s ability to correct itself constantly but Trump has exposed a lot of cracks esp social media gathering, Cambridge Analytica data etc etc that can be easily exploited.. American intelligence has its work cut out for the next decade

When BLM resorted to violence, it was supported by the LL. Statues destroyed, buildings vandalised, shops looted - while the world was under lockdown - but the LL failed to condemn such violence under the banner of 'I can't breathe'.
Now the LL are out in full flow demanding condemnation.
You couldn't make it up.

Trump doesn't drink alcohol, ever, and I think you are being intellectually dishonest here as you fail to see the mental illness Biden exhibits - it's all on camera. If you want to see bad diet, look at Warren Buffet - Coca Cola, McDs, and Ice cream. He's alive and well.
You would support Bugs Bunny or Daffy Duck if they stood against Trump, no?
This is the problem, your hatered of Trump has clouded your judgement and dimished all objectivity.

I don't hate anyone, hate is really just poisoning oneself. I deplore racists and fascists, because their words turn into violence. Trump fomented that racist birther conspiracy theory and reality denial on a national scale and yesterday is the result.
I don't think Biden is mentally ill though he has lost some quickness of thought, as everyone does into their seventies. He is what American needs right now - a decent and kind figurehead who can start to heal the divisions and turn back the tide of racism and fascism. Kamala and the cabinet can do the heavy lifting.

Biden victory confirmed after four die amid Capitol riot
The announcement was made by Minnesota Senator Amy Klobuchar, one of the four "tellers" appointed by the House and Senate to count the electoral college votes.
She said: "The report we make is that Joe Biden and Kamala Harris will be the president and vice president according to the ballots that have been given to us."
Vice-President Mike Pence, who as president of the Senate oversaw the certification process, confirmed to Congress that, of the 538 electoral college votes cast, Joe Biden and Kamala Harris received 306 and Donald Trump and Mike Pence received 232 - mirroring the results of November's election.
“The announcement of the state of the vote by the President of the Senate shall be deemed as sufficient declaration of the persons elected President and Vice President of the United States, each for the term beginning on the 20th day of January, 2021 and shall be entered together with the list of the votes on the journals of the Senate and the House of Representatives," Pence said.

Trump promises 'orderly transition' as Biden win confirmed hours after deadly riot
Donald Trump has said there will be an "orderly transition" after the US Congress certified Joe Biden's win in the presidential election.
It comes just hours after deadly protests erupted in Washington DC - and after Congress formally validated Mr. Biden's November victory, certifying his 306 Electoral College votes.
"Even though I totally disagree with the outcome of the election, and the facts bear me out, nevertheless there will be an orderly transition on January 20th," the unswerving outgoing president said.
"I have always said we would continue our fight to ensure that only legal votes were counted. While this represents the end of the greatest first term in presidential history, it's only the beginning of our fight to Make America Great Again!"
The statement was posted on Twitter by Mr. Trump's deputy chief of staff Dan Scavino after the president was locked out of his social media accounts.

Twitter and Facebook also removed several posts by the president deemed to incite violence and others which made false claims about the election result and praised his supporters for the march in Washington DC to protest against his defeat.
It ended with dramatic scenes, which saw the storming of the Capitol building by protesters to disrupt Congress's formal confirmation of Mr. Biden's win and the deaths of four people.

I respect BLM as a movement, though I deplore the violence that sometimes occurred. There were plenty of peaceful demonstrations. I would have taken part in one had Mrs R not been in COVID at-risk categories.
Trump shows a substantial break with reality, hence is not mentally competent.
