Lahore, 21 January 2021:

Resumption of cricket in Pakistan has attracted household sport broadcasters across the globe to partner with the Pakistan Cricket Board and secure media rights for the HBL Pakistan Super League and all home bilateral international matches till 2023.

After premier sport networks PTV Sports and SuperSport had acquired Pakistan and Africa region’s media rights for Pakistan cricket, respectively last year, the PCB has now signed partnerships in North America, the Caribbean, New Zealand and the United Kingdom.

As such, fans and supporters of Pakistan cricket will now be able to follow Babar Azam and his side as well as the HBL Pakistan Super League in North America though Willow TV, in the Caribbean through Flow Sports, in the United Kingdom through Sky Sports and in New Zealand through Sky NZ.

Discussions with potential broadcasters in Australia, Middle East and South Asia are underway and further details will be provided in due course.

The PCB had worked in close collaboration with its international media rights consultant Colgan Bauer and carried out a stringent analysis of each market. This included devising rights packaging and processes to enhance competition and quality broadcasters from all markets.

Until the end of 2022, Pakistan has lined-up a series of mouth-watering international cricket and topped up with the HBL Pakistan Super League 2021, 2022 and 2023, fans can brace to experience the most exciting and thrilling cricket to be participated in by some of the modern day elite cricketers.

Pakistan’s upcoming home bilateral cricket includes:

• 2021 – vs South Africa (Tests & T20Is), New Zealand (white-ball), England (men’s and women’s T20Is) and the West Indies (white-ball)

• 2022 – Australia (full tour), England (Tests & ODIs) and New Zealand (Tests & ODIs)

• 2023 – FTP to be confirmed

Reason being with now tv stream , sky has a habit of sticking games you want to watch on red button , and you can't use red button services with now tv sports package , so you have to subscribe to proper box package with 24 month contract to use the red button service.

So example if England were playing sri lanka and pakistan were playing South africa, sky would put the England fixture on sky cricket and the pakistan vs south africa would be relegated to the red button service. So for now tv subscribers they won't able to watch

The PCB was offered $150 million by Ten Sports for 5 years, the only ended up with $60 million because India refused to tour Pakistan or play Pakistan in the UAE.

My question is that the deals that EM, WK have negotiated with these broadcasters and are negotiating further with other broadcasters, are they going to bring the PCB more than $150 million especially considering we are not playing against India anytime soon? Surely the PCB PTV deal which the PCB projects will help them earn $200 million in the next 3 years would have strengthened PCB's negotiating powers with all of these external international broadcasters.

Anyways if the likes of EM, WK have managed to bring a total of $150 million plus from all of the these broadcasters combined especially considering we aren't hosting India anytime soon, then their achievement will be truly remarkable.

We signed a 3 year $200 million "local" broadcast deal with PTV in September 2020. Our international broadcast rights figure under confidentiality agreements. The PTV deal gives you an idea of the level!. Our previous deal was worth $50 million in total

Based on his response i think the PCB has gotten a much bigger amount compared to the previous deal which is remarkable considering we are facing a Covid world, Pakistan is not hosting India at home or on a neutral venue and the team's bottom 3 rankings in all formats testify to the fact that it sucks right now and the fact we don't have enough quality world class international players playing in the PSL

PCB wont release the numbers because the agreements have confidentiality clauses. But based on my brief convo with WK, he hinted that the PCB got $50 million last time from 2015-2020 and they are projected to make $200 million in 3 years from the PTV deal which covers the right for PTV to air Pakistan's domestic cricket, home series in Pakistan alone and therefore you can comfortably rest assured that the PCB will be doing its utmost to get a much better deal than last time. Ten Sports who offered the PCB $150 million from 2015-2020 but ended up only paying $50 million because India went back on its tour to Pakistan, apparently this time offered the PCB $25 million for the next 3-4 years and the PCB told them to move on.

It makes sense too. If an international broadcaster tries to low ball the PCB with a poor offer, the PCB can easily pressurize and negotiate with a stronger bargaining power for more money citing the $200 million deal.

Apparently according to WK, the PCB is negotiating deals with broadcasters in India, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Middle East, Australia seperately. If no reasonable deal is found then the PCB will go for open streaming services available in the respective countries as well.

The PCB will retain sole control of the entire production and will only provide a feed to the broadcaster.

I think I mentioned to you before SkySports Mix HD is absolutely HD but it is part of Sky Signature/Entertainment pack so non SkSports subscribers can sample some sport. To get SkySports Mix HD you need to get the base Entertainment Signature pack HD. You may subscribe to SkySports pack in HD pack but you won’t get Mix HD unless you subscribe to it.
I hope that helps and some of the call centre people don’t have a clue.

I don't feel comfortable with the PCB refusing to divulge, reveal the revenue that they have signed up to receive from all these broad casters under the pretext of confidentiality clauses in the contract. Isnt this the job the board of Governors. One of the reasons could be to stop RSS types to use the figures from Sony to stop the deal.

Some Indian posters are expressing outrage at Sony for this treachery and demanding the BJP govt to stop the sony deal which according to one India posters was giving the PCB $200 million a year which i find crazy and ludicrous because not even the BCCI is achieving that much. But bottomline these broadcast deals involve huge sums of money and if the PCB is not revealing the sums then someone independent has to step in to examine the contracts in order to ensure that nothing nefarious is going on behind the scenes.

As the PCB isn't a publicly listed entity, they are under no obligation to disclose details of their commercial transactions to the public.

Thats not true, Ehsan Mani used the same argument in his last national assembly meeting with the parliamentarians and they then threw the rule book at him where they proved that under the laws of the country, the PCB had to answer any questions that the National Assembly sports committee demanded answers too and the commercial transactions of the PCB falls under their remit as well. Disclosing the value of these broadcasting contracts is being transparent and gives confidence that no corruption is taking place behind the scenes.

Pakistan Cricket Board and SNTV today announced an extension of their partnership that will allow SNTV to provide news broadcasters around the world access to highlights of the Pakistan versus South Africa series and the HBL Pakistan Super League 2021.

This will be South Africa’s first series in Pakistan since 2007 and comprise two Tests and three T20Is, and begins in Karachi on Tuesday, while it will be the sixth edition of the PCB’s annual 34-match marquee event and second to be held in Pakistan.

The partnership means SNTV will provide highlights from each match day to its network of more than 1,200 clients. Founded in 1996, SNTV is a world-class sports video partner relied upon by credible and reputed media organisations to fulfil their content needs 24 hours a day, with 115+ territories reached worldwide.

The PCB and SNTV first partnered last year to distribute highlights of HBL Pakistan Super League 2020 and received an overwhelming response from international news broadcasters.

The PCB's PPP deal with the PTV only relates to the domestic contract. It doesn't apply to international contracts.

The BCCI actually sold all the rights in a bundled deal with Star. However, most of the other boards still sell all their foreign rights on an individual basis in each respective market e.g. CA selling rights separately in the UK/India/SA et al.

These rights always tend to be undervalued as it's a buyer's market in general. It's why there has been a push in recent years from boards outside the Big 3 to be allowed to bundle up the international tv rights of three or four countries and sell as a packaged deal.
