Bangladesh [149/3] beat West Indies [148-all out] by 7 wickets to go up 2-0
Bangladesh sets eyes on more CWC Super League points
With more ICC Cricket World Cup Super League points up for grabs, Bangladesh will take on the inexperienced West Indies side in the second ODI on Friday, 22 January.
Overview
Bangladesh vs West Indies, 2nd ODI
Sher-E-Bangla Stadium, Mirpur, Dhaka
22 January 2021; 11am local time, 5.00am GMT
Bangladesh marked their first international match in more than 10 months with a much-savoured victory in the first ODI on Wednesday, and if that performance is anything to go by, they will be good for more Super League points.
Shakib Al Hasan, playing his first match for Bangladesh since September 2019, returned a brilliant 4/8 and was named Player of the Match. It was also a particularly memorable outing for Tamim Iqbal, the team having won his first match as captain.
Bangladesh are likely to stick with the same XI, with more Super League points on offer, and their stated objective being to gather enough points to finish in one of the automatic-qualification slots for the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023.
West Indies, meanwhile, will hope their young players gained valuable experience in that first ODI. The team from the Caribbean named six debutants in the opening match, and there was one very clear standout performer – Akeal Hosein returned a brilliant 3/26 to stifle Bangladesh briefly in their chase of 123.
Phil Simmons, the West Indies coach, will hope his side can hold out for longer this time around, allowing the lower-order batsmen, particularly Rovman Powell, to put away the big hits and help his team to a big total.
Whether they can manage that against a confident Bangladesh side remains to be seen.
Remember the last time:
West Indies were asked to bat, and the Bangladesh bowlers, led first by Mustafizur Rahman (2/20) and Shakib (4/8) dismantled them for 122. That total was in itself largely thanks to Kyle Mayers, who scored a 56-ball 40 to keep West Indies going.
Bangladesh took their time in the chase, and were restricted briefly by Akeal Hosein. Despite that, captain Tamim Iqbal’s 44 helped them to 125 in just 33.5 overs.
What they said:
Shakib Al Hasan, Bangladesh all-rounder: "The thing is we haven't played for 10 months, so everybody is anxious and keen to play matches.”
Jason Mohammed, West Indies captain: "It is difficult to score in the middle overs with the spinners, so negotiating that part of the innings is going to be crucial for us.”

While BD winning is not a foregone conclusion, but I really wished we had batted first and our batsmen got some practice.

Not sure what WI board wants to achieve with these players? I don't think these players can compete against Bangladesh U19 team?
These T20 leagues are affecting WI way too much. WI board is too busy to accommodate their players to play any street league but not care about World Cup main round as well as happy to be under Afghanistan in test championship.

How bad are the pitches in this series? I don't like flat pattas either but these pitches are not exactly suited for international matches.

I strongly believe their excuse of Corona-fear is pure nonsense. Don't get me wrong, there might be flaws in our bio-bubble, but why are these professional athletes are afraid of a virus that doesn't cause much concern to fit and young individuals.
They just don't see much to get out of this series - they know their full strength side will probably lose based on recent performances. So why not just skip the tour.
Infact, each of our 4 seniors alone actually have played more international OD caps than entire WI side.
People keep telling India played their C team. That wasn't the C team, it was half filled with first choice players and the others were 2nd choice. This WI side is absolutely inexperienced.

BCB should sue WICB for this farce. At least T20's would have been more close, this is outright ridiculous now

I think Bangladesh should move on, they should bring in a leg spinner in place of Mehedy . Mehedy only does good against team like WI. He is a specialist bowler but average over 40.

As much as it pains me to say this but...I really hope WI doesn't qualify for the world cup in 2023. They may actually not if they keep playing these joke of a teams. May be then their board/players will learn a lesson.
Afghanistan and Ireland/Scotland are more deserving than them.

West Indies deserves this humiliation for taking Bangladesh lightly and resting all its main players. Even when India or Pakistan tours BD, they atleast keep some main players intact. Poor stuff for WI.

Nazmul Hossain Shanto is not international standard. Mark my words. He shall be discarded soon. I don't understand what BCB has found in him. Mohammad Naeem Sheikh is a better option.

Dominant Bangladesh move to third spot in CWCSL standings
Bangladesh made it two wins in a row against West Indies, coasting to an seven-wicket victory in the second ODI in Dhaka on Friday, 22 January and moving up to the third spot in the ICC Cricket World Cup Super League standings.
Bangladesh now have 20 points with two wins in two games.
Once again, their attack proved too much for the inexperienced West Indies batting line-up, the visitors being bundled out for 148. The Bangladesh batsmen, led by captain Tamim Iqbal and all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan, then chased down the total in just 33.2 overs.
West Indies opted to bat, their batsmen seemingly determined to be more resistant than they were in the first ODI. Opener Sunil Ambris was still dismissed within the first five overs, Mustafizur Rahman sending him back for a 15-ball six, but Kjorn Ottley and Joshua Da Silva put on an attritional partnership of 26 off 50 deliveries.
However, when the breakthrough came, more wickets quickly followed. Mehidy Hasan Miraz had both Ottley and Da Silva dismissed in the same over, within the space of four deliveries. Ottley slashed at one, only to find the fielder, while Da Silva was bowled when he failed to pick up Mehidy’s line.
Shakib Al Hasan, in his first over, then had Andre McCarthy bowled and when Kyle Mayers, West Indies’ highest-scorer in the first ODI, was run out for nought thereafter, the visitors seemed in dire straits at 41/5.
They did well thereafter to get to a total of 148. Nkrumah Bonner and captain Jason Mohammed put on a 26-run stand to revive the innings, and once the stand was broken – Shakib had Mohammed trapped in front – Rovman Powell came into the middle.
Powell sealed up one end thereafter, putting on partnerships of 17 with Raymon Reifer (2), of 32 with Alzarri Joseph (17) and of 28 runs with Akeal Hosein (12). Powell scored 66-ball 41 to revive the innings, and give their bowlers something to bowl at.
However, the total posed little problem to the Bangladesh batsmen. Tamim, the captain, led from the front, scoring a 76-ball 50 to lay the foundations of the chase, putting on 30 with Liton Das for the opening wicket, and 47 with Najmul Hossain Shanto (17) for the second wicket.
Tamim and Shakib then added a quick 32 for the third wicket to propel the chase, and despite Tamim’s dismissal shortly after reaching his milestone, Shakib’s 43* helped see the chase through.

The WI first 11 players who pulled out of this tour clearly thought nothing of this series. Doubt they are pulling out of a tour against Australia or India.
