Sundar has such a great defense against spin, dare I say far better than Rahane's ever was.
It pains me to say that as Mumbai bats are historically so good against spin mostly due to the maidans they get to play their formative years on.

Ashwin, Jadeja, Sundar, and Axar. Who gets in when India play away? I suppose Sundar can be accommodated as a pure bat although I'd like to see a lot more of him before he assumes that role. I'd play Jadeja and Sundar, and get Ashwin in where possible.
Rohit, Gill, Pujara, Kohli, Sundar, Pant, Jadeja, Hardik/Ashwin, Shami, Siraj/Ishant, Bumrah

Washington will play almost a 100 Tests for India as a first choice player, but he will have to wait for his time because Ashwin and Jadeja will be first-choice for another 3-4 years.
Ashwin himself had to wait until 25 to become a Test regular.
Washington is only 21 with a wonderful career ahead of him. He is the true heir to Ashwin/Jadeja.

He isn't front bowler as of now. In 2-3 yrs by the time ashwin retire he has to improve his bowling. As of now he servers perfectly as fifth bowler in asian conditions. With jadeja, ashwin and sundar as three spinners and with the batting ability they have it is impossible for any touring team to win a series in india.

Poor guy missed his first hundred by 4 runs. He must be feeling underwhelmed. That's why pant way is better for getting 100. You get out on 100 or 101 not 96*.

Looks like it got easier to bat on.
England are still in with a slight chance here.
-
6th March 2021, 10:33 #57
Just woke up.
Very surprised by Sundar. I thought India was alll tail lenders after Pant. India seem to be what England were a couple of years ago - weak batting with one star, and a bunch of capable lower order batters. A shame that he didn’t get his century.
Anyway England picked the wrong attack - again - and paid the price - again. Good to see Stokes’ massive effort rewarded with four wickets.
Only pride to play for now. Let’s see if England have learned anything.
Ouch, Siraj has been clobbered by Sibley! Great effort to stop that drive. India’s fielding is so much better than it used to be.

Chances are bleak for England now.
Need to get 350 plus runs (so difficult in a 2nd innings) just to set a challenge.
All eyes on Stokes and Root. Unlikely heroes could be Bairstow or Lawrence.

The remainder of this third day presents an immense psychological examination for England’s batsmen.
We have seen yesterday evening and this morning that the pitch has flattened out and improved for batting since the first day and the second morning. Not that batting is entirely easy — the occasional ball is still misbehaving — but if you get in and play sensibly, wherever you are placed in the batting order you can score big runs.
This is a mental game now for England. They can actually still come back in the Test match and set India a challenging final innings target; but conversely, if England mess things up then they could also lose by an innings.
We will see what happens. By the way, major props either way to Ben Stokes (again) for an outstanding, gargantuan bowling effort. He is a very special cricketer.
