The fourth edition of the Abu Dhabi T10 League will take place from January 28 to February 6 next year in which eight teams will fight for the championship title at the Sheikh Zayed Cricket Stadium, it was announced on Monday.

Shaji Ul Mulk, founder and chairman of T10 Sports Management, said, "In the past three years, since launching the T10 League in Sharjah Cricket Stadium in 2017, the T10 League has come of age and has been accepted as the fastest-growing and the most popular cricket format.

"The T10 League is now one of the most sought after international cricket leagues with such popularity that Abu Dhabi decided to host it for five years with major government bodies joining hands to embrace and support the tournament," he added.

Meanwhile, Haroon Lorgat, former CEO of the International Cricket Council (ICC), has been appointed as director for strategy and development by T10 Sports Management to spearhead growth and development of the ten-over format cricket worldwide.

In his new role, Lorgat will advise Mulk on growth strategies for T10 cricket. He will also develop, profile and promote the Abu Dhabi T10 League worldwide with the aim of having multiple T10 leagues in viable countries. He will connect with key stakeholders to promote the league and work with them to develop T10 cricket around the world.

"I am glad that Haroon Lorgat has accepted the challenge. He will engage with relevant authorities and stakeholders to create multiple T10 League properties in both Full and Associate Member countries where cricket is a popular game. With him on board, we will chart an exciting development program worldwide to popularise the game of cricket with this exciting new format," Mulk said.

Lorgat served as the ICC CEO for four years from 2008 to 2012.

After his term at the ICC, he assisted Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) and then the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) as a consultant. In July 2013, he was appointed Chief Executive of Cricket South Africa (CSA) and has been lauded for restoring the reputation of CSA after a difficult period.

Accepting the new role, Lorgat said, "I witnessed T10 cricket for the first time last year and was amazed by its appeal and potential for advancement. The impressive growth of the Abu Dhabi T10 League has attracted global attention and it is now ready for expansion worldwide. I am delighted to join Abu Dhabi T10 and to play a part in growing the league and T10 cricket around the world."

"I will be keen to work closely with the ICC and Member countries to promote the game and build on the foundation laid by Mr Shaji Ul Mulk and his team," he added.

The 2019 edition, which was won by Dwayne Bravo-led Maratha Arabians, saw an incredible 124,000 fans descend on Zayed Cricket Stadium across the 10 days of high-octane tournament play, and confirming a record sports spectator audience for events in the UAE.

    • SHAHID AFRIDI QALANDARS
    • DWAYNE BRAVO DELHI BULLS
    • ANDRE RUSSELL NORTHERN WARRIORS
    • SUNIL NARINE DECCAN GLADIATORS
    • SHOAIB MALIK MARATHA ARABIANS
    • THISARA PERERA PUNE DEVILS
    • ISURU UDANA BANGLA TIGERS

    2020 EDITION TO BE PLAYED JANUARY 28 - FEBRUARY 6, 2021

Abu Dhabi, UAE – 21 December 2020: Superstars from around the world are confirmed to play in Abu Dhabi T10 in the capital of the United Arab Emirates. The eight teams are taking guard at the Zayed Cricket Stadium for the fourth edition of the tournament - and second season - in Abu Dhabi from January 28 - February 6, 2021.

This season of the Abu Dhabi T10 will see the world’s best take part, including the 'Universe Boss' Chris Gayle, the six-hitting West Indian machine Andre Russell, Pakistan’s Shahid ‘Boom Boom’ Afridi.

Arguably the greatest limited-overs cricketer of all-time, Chris Gayle will take centre stage as the ICON player for Team Abu Dhabi. With over 1,000 T20 sixes under his belt, the West Indian is raring to produce the fireworks in the fast-paced ten-over format.

"The shorter the format, the more exciting the game becomes, I can’t wait to play at the Zayed Cricket Stadium again, watch out Abu Dhabi - a Gayle storm is coming!” said Gayle.

No boundary is too big for Andre Russell and once he gets going there is no stopping him. The West Indian has played in more than 300 T20 matches and smashed over 800 boundaries in various leagues around the world will now be a part of the Northern Warriors as ICON player this season.

The Qalandars boasts World T20 winner and Pakistani legend Shahid Afridi in their ranks. He held the record for the fastest century in the ODI format for more than 17 years.

“I look forward to coming back to the Abu Dhabi T10 and playing in one most stunning stadiums in the world" said Afridi.

Dwayne ‘DJ’ Bravo is the former Captain of the West Indies cricket team and the Delhi Bulls have seized the opportunity and signed the West Indian all-rounder as their ICON player for this season.

The batsmen provide the entertainment with sixes and fours, but it's the bowlers who are key in winning tournaments in a quick paced format such as this one. Deccan Gladiators' ICON player Sunil Narine will be a vital inclusion to the team. Sunil’s claim to fame came in 2009 when he picked up all 10 wickets during a trial match and was picked up in the Trinidad and the Tobago squad.

The defending champions Maratha Arabians have decided to back experience for this season as they have signed the World T20-winning player Shoaib Malik as their ICON player. The former Pakistan Captain will lead the Arabians side for this season of the ADT10.

Isuru Udana is set to showcase his slower ball variations as the ICON player for the Bangla Tigers. The Sri Lankan, has come to be known as a T20 specialist in the world of franchise cricket thanks to his performances in the Indian Premier League, Afghanistan Premier League and the World Cup.

Another World T20 winner - Thisara Perera will provide his services with both, bat and ball as the chosen ICON player of the Pune Devils. Perera is known for his destructive batting in the death overs and often performs the role of match finisher for his team.

His Excellency Aref Al Awani, General Secretary of Abu Dhabi Sports Council, struck a note of pride in commenting on Abu Dhabi’s ever-increasing sporting reputation:

“Although we have hosted numerous local and international cricket events in the past, our commitment to host the second season of Abu Dhabi T10 enhances our gold star portfolio of world-class destination sporting events. It builds upon and expands our profile for bringing together the top athletes in world sport and offering elite competition and unparalleled entertainment value.”

Abu Dhabi T10 builds on the surging popularity of the global game and is the first-ever 10-over tournament in the world to receive the full backing and sanction of both the International Cricket Council and the Emirates Cricket Board. The eight teams of Abu Dhabi T10 are bracing up for yet another cracker of a season in January/February 2021.

The Abu Dhabi T10 tournament will be broadcast on — Sony in India and Pakistan, Abu Dhabi Sports in the Middle East and North Africa countries, Sky Sports in the United Kingdom and SuperSport in South Africa.

T10 can do to cricket what T20 did, feels Dwayne Bravo

West Indian all-rounder Dwayne Bravo feels the T10 format can bring about a revolution similar to the one that was seen following the advent of T20 cricket more than 15 years ago.

Bravo is gearing up to take part in the upcoming Abu Dhabi T10.

Speaking about the game’s newest avatar, he said, “T10 is an exciting tournament and it’s a competition that is just the way T20 started a few years ago – being the hottest thing in the market, and attracting so many people around the world.

“I think T10 definitely can do something similar. I believe it can also help players prolong their careers, and as a bowler, I use it as an opportunity to challenge myself because it’s not a bowler-friendly tournament, and you come up against the best players in the world.

“So I use it as an opportunity to work on my skills and challenge and see how I can still compete at the highest level.”
He was one of the standout performers in the previous edition of Abu Dhabi T10 as he led his former team Maratha Arabians to their first-ever title after defeating Deccan Gladiators in the final.

The flamboyant cricketer has now switched sides for the upcoming season of Abu Dhabi T10, and has again been joined by coach Andy Flower, who has also made the switch from the Arabians to the Delhi Bulls.

“I must be very honest that it’s a really hard tournament to win. What will work for us is the fact that both the coach (Andy Flower) and myself will be on the same page.

Looking to execute my plans well against Chris Gayle,' says Isuru Udana ahead of the second season of Abu Dhabi T10

~ Isuru Udana speaks about playing in the second season of Abu Dhabi T10 ~

Abu Dhabi, 16 January 2021: Sri Lankan medium-fast bowler Isuru Udana, who has come to be known as a T20 specialist in the last few years, will be turning up as the Icon player for the Bangla Tigers in the second season of the Abu Dhabi T10.

The tournament is set to be played at the Sheikh Zayed Cricket Stadium in Abu Dhabi from 28th January - 6th February 2021. Udana expressed that he is very excited to be a part of the Bangla Tigers family,

"The Abu Dhabi T10 will be a fun tournament. We can enjoy a lot. The T10 format is especially a bit hard for bowlers, but it will be enjoyable. I am really excited to be part of the Bangla Tigers family and I can't wait to join the players and start playing with them."

The Sri Lankan will be up against West Indian legend Chris Gayle when his side faces Team Abu Dhabi in the tournament. Udana said that it's very important to execute one's plans against the 'Universe Boss', "Whenever you have to face the 'Universe Boss', you have to execute your plans very well so I am just thinking about my plans and I want to execute them well."

The 32-year-old, who has an excellent bowling average of 25.17 in T20s, expressed that he is looking forward to playing with Andre Fletcher in the Abu Dhabi T10, "We have a good team. I am waiting to play alongside Andre Fletcher (West Indies). I have seen him perform well in the Big Bash League. There are a lot of good players in the other teams as well and this is going to be a great tournament for all of us."

While speaking about the best players in white ball cricket, Udana had no hesitation in naming Indian captain Virat Kohli as the best batsman in the world, "I think the best batsman in white ball cricket is Virat Kohli, best bower I'll go for Mitchell Starc and I like Ravindra Jadeja an all-rounder."

It has not been an easy time for any sportsperson since the start of the Covid-19 pandemic last year. Udana said that one has to be back one's strength during this difficult period.

"It's not easy to do our gym and running sessions during a pandemic since we can't go out every now and then. I think during this time, one has to believe in oneself and back one's strength. That's the main thing. The best advice I would like to give to upcoming players is that they should try to enjoy the game. And the other advice I can give is that they should try to execute their plans well," signed off Udana.

Nothing Indian about these teams with Indian sounding names. I guess even Big Bash and PSL will soon start calling at least one team Delhi DoDos or Kolkata Kats to attract some illiterate Indian fans.

'Will be watching everything very keenly as the mentor of the Northern Warriors,' says Mohammad Azharuddin ahead of the new season of Abu Dhabi T10

Abu Dhabi, 19 January 2021: Former India captain Mohammad Azharuddin, who scored over 15,000 runs in international cricket, is all set to take up the role of team mentor for the Northern Warriors in the second season of Abu Dhabi T10, powered by sky247net. The competition will be played at the Sheikh Zayed Cricket Stadium in Abu Dhabi from 28th January - 6th February 2021. Azharuddin expressed that he will be observing all the practice sessions and matches carried out by Warriors very keenly, "I will be watching everything very keenly as the mentor of the Northern Warriors. Actually, the coach runs the team, so I will be giving advice to the players and coaches as the mentor of the team. If I find something is not up to the mark or my advice is needed for something, that's when I will step in as a mentor."
Even though the Northern Warriors have many star players such as Lendl Simmons and Nicholas Pooran in their side, Azharuddin made it very clear that he is not looking forward to working with only a few players. "For me, there's not one player that I am looking forward to working with, but I am looking forward to working with all the players in the Northern Warriors team. My role as a mentor is to look after the entire team," said the former India captain.

When asked about his thoughts on the fast-paced T10 format, Azharuddin said that one will get a better idea about the format if it's played in more countries, "T10 is a good format, but it's held only in the UAE at the moment. If there are more T10 tournaments all over the world, then only we will know how good the format would be. As of now, the T10 has picked up as this is the fourth year (second edition of Abu Dhabi T10 and fourth year of the tournament overall) that the tournament is being held in the UAE."
The former India captain said that he enjoyed Test cricket and One Day Internationals during his career, but he is not sure if he would have enjoyed the T10 format.

"I am not sure if I would have enjoyed playing T10, unless I play a game here and there, which is not possible at the moment. I really enjoyed Test cricket and One-day cricket. So, I don't know if I would have enjoyed T10 or not, because unless you play, you won't understand," signed off Azharuddin.
The co-owner of the Northern Warriors team – Mohomed Morani expressed that Azharuddin's experience at the highest level will be hugely beneficial for the players, "We are looking forward to another cracker of a season and we are absolutely delighted to have Mohammad Azharuddin as the mentor of the Northern Warriors team. His sound knowledge of the game and experience at the highest level will be hugely beneficial for our players."

Pakistan cricket legend Mudassar Nazar, who scored over 6,500 runs and took over 150 wickets in international cricket, has been appointed as the Technical Director for T10 Sports Management (TSM).

TSM is a group company of the multinational and diversified conglomerate Mulk Holdings. The former all-rounder joins T10 Sports Management just before the start of the second season of Abu Dhabi, slated to be held at the Sheikh Zayed Cricket Stadium in Abu Dhabi from 28 January to 06 February 2021. The Abu Dhabi T10, which is the brainchild of Shaji Ul Mulk, Chairman, and founder of Mulk Holdings, is the world’s only ten-over cricket league officially sanctioned by the International Cricket Council (ICC) and licensed by the Emirates Cricket Board (ECB).

Speaking about the importance of the T10 format, Mudassar Nazar, Technical Director, T10 Sports Management, said, "We are in the entertainment business, whether it was 100 years ago or it's now. If the audience is not entertained, then we don't move an inch. Any cricketer, who is in love with the game, will love to watch any format and this is a very exciting format. If I was still playing, I would have tried this format. I would have trained hard and probably changed my approach to the game and that is why it's so fascinating to see players who are so good in the four-day and five-day formats and then they change their game and skill and then try and outperform people in this event."

Shaji Ul Mulk, Chairman, T10 Sports Management, said, “We are absolutely delighted to have Mudassar Nazar on board as the Technical Director. Being one of the greats of the game, Mudassar will have a lot of valuable insights to share with us, which will be a big boost for the Abu Dhabi T10 tournament. We are looking forward to a wonderful working relationship with him.”

International star cricketers such as West Indies' Chris Gayle and Andre Russell, and Pakistan's Shahid Afridi, among others, have been confirmed for the eight-team cricket extravaganza in January-February. The eight franchises, who will fight it out in the middle include Team Abu Dhabi, Maratha Arabians, Bangla Tigers, Deccan Gladiators, Qalandars, Delhi Bulls, Northern Warriors and Pune Devils.

Not a fan of this format. T10 and The Hundred are just stretching it.

Majority of the players are English, West Indian and retirees. English players would be playing cause there is no domestic cricket in England during this time. WI players don't usually play domestic cricket and don't have domestic cricket scheduled either. Retired ones are and should be free to play everywhere.

For Pakistan, there shouldn't be any NOC issued to young players or the contracted ones. Rumman, Anwar and Azam shouldn't be there(don't mind Anwar as he is unlikely to ever play test cricket).

If Azam plays t10 ahead of FC again, this would show he has no intention of working hard and improving himself. He is just playing cricket part time I guess.

    Jason Roy on T10:

When I started my career, the T20 format was full of skills and entertainment opportunities, but now there is another format, the T10, which is incredibly interesting.

Leading England player Jason Roy said in an interview that Abu Dhabi T10 has a lot of fun not only for the players but also for the spectators.

In my opinion, T10 is the best format so far.

Abu Dhabi, UAE – 26 October 2020: Former India all-rounder Yusuf Pathan, who has scored 4,852 runs and taken 99 wickets in T20 cricket, is all set to feature in the Abu Dhabi T10, which is slated to be held at the UAE capital from 19 November 2021. During a virtual media conference on Tuesday, Pathan expressed that he will look to give joy to his fans during the Abu Dhabi T10, "I am working hard to give some joy to my fans during the Abu Dhabi T10. The tournament is a good opportunity for me to play for my fans."

When asked about his approach to the T10 format, the 38-year-old said, "My approach to T10 will be the same I have had for other formats. I will play my natural game. I'll put my strategies in place according to the wicket in Abu Dhabi. We'll need to score at a quicker rate in T10, so I am practicing accordingly. It's important to adapt to the conditions as well."

Pathan further added that the Abu Dhabi T10 will not only be about big hitting and boundaries, "T10 is just like any other format in cricket. One can't just go out there and hit boundaries just because it's a T10 game. One has to strategize which kinds of shots to play according to the situation in the T10 game as well. It's very important for a player to handle pressure and adapt to the situation quickly."

When asked if he is looking to bat at a particular batting position during the Abu Dhabi T10, Pathan said, "I have played at a number of batting positions during my career and I have always adapted to the team's needs. The T10 format suits my game. However, my batting position will depend on the team's strategies. I have always been open to batting at any position for the team."

Yusuf Pathan, who has been part of the World T20-winning squad in 2007 and the 2011 World Cup-winning squad said that the Indian team can bounce back after their 10-wicket loss to Pakistan in their first match of the ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2021 on Sunday, "I don't think it will be difficult for India to bounce back as our players have been playing good cricket.

All the India players are hardworking and they know how to handle pressure. We all should keep supporting the team and the players will definitely do well. We are not out of the tournament after one loss. India still have a chance to win the ICC Men's T20 World Cup and I hope that we win the T20 World Cup."

"I'll be better than what I was in the previous season," says Northern Warriors' leg-spinner Imran Tahir

Abu Dhabi, UAE -: Veteran South Africa leg-Spinner Imran Tahir, who is set to play his second Abu Dhabi T10 with the star-studded Northern Warriors side, expressed during a virtual press conference that he will be better than what he was in the previous season. He said that he will use his experience from the previous season and come up with different plans and thoughts to bowl well in the tournament.

"Last year I was in T20 mode, and I was playing for the first time, so I found it quite difficult to bowl, but I didn't do so bad. I just think I could have done better. Now, I have got that experience, and with my new plans, I am hoping that I'll be able to bowl well in T10 cricket going forward, and I will try to bowl as tight as I can," said Tahir.

He further added, "This will be my second year, so I will come up with a different plan and thoughts on how I need to be bowling in T10 if I get to bowl in the powerplay or in the death over so I’m really hoping that I will be better than what I was last year, and I think that’s how I should be going forward," said Tahir.

When asked about how the bowlers approach in the T10 format, the 42-year-old player said, "Personally speaking, I don't like to go for boundaries, I like to bowl tight so I don’t look for wickets. I rather have my teammates take wickets, and I’ll be very happy. Also, if I go tight, let's say six-run an over or eight an over, I'll think I did my job fantastically."

The Proteas spinner is part of Northern Warriors, which consists of stalwarts like Chris Jordan, Moeen Ali and Rovman Powell. Speaking about the team's chances, Tahir commented, "I have to be honest with you, if I have big names in my team or small names, I don’t look for that. I think once I get in and join the team, l will be very happy, and I want all of us to do well for the team. You know, we try our best because all the owners and sponsors put so much faith in us, and I think the main reason for me is that we just look to do well. I think the results can never be guaranteed, and it doesn’t matter whatever or whoever you have in your team, so for me, I think we just need to play well on the day to just try to get over the line, and just take one game at a time."

Tahir also spoke about T10's future and the possibility of the T10 World Cup. He reckoned, "The way T20 started people were saying the same for it, now T10 started, people are saying the same. I believe it is all the owners and sponsors efforts that the league is going on till date, so all the credit goes to them firstly, and I definitely feel that in the coming forward days it’s possible, if not now then in the coming 5-10 years it's definitely possible for the T10 world cup to happen."

Abu Dhabi T10 will be played held at the Zayed Cricket Stadium in Abu Dhabi from 19 November - 4 December 2021.

Abu Dhabi, UAE - 11 November 2021: Former South African Captain Faf du Plessis, who will be making his debut in the Abu Dhabi T10 this year, expressed during a virtual conference that the T10 format could be played in the Olympics, "I have played three formats for a long time and I am still attracted to the T10 format. I think players like myself will keep looking at tournaments like this. The future of T10 is looking good. It's a format that can be used in the Olympics. The quick nature of T10 also makes it attractive to the fans. I think T10 is only going to get better and better."

When asked about how he will go about his business in a new format, the South African said, "I think when you are moving from one format to the other, it's about understanding your game. You need to think about the blueprint that you will need to follow which will give you consistent results. Through time in T20 cricket, I've got better at understanding my game plan on different pitches and making decisions about which bowlers I can take on and which bowlers I can't take on during a game."

Du Plessis, who will be leading the Bangla Tigers team in the upcoming season of the Abu Dhabi T10, spoke about his role as the leader of the side, "My role as a captain would be to get the team together and create an environment wherein the players are having fun and being themselves. Batting in the top order would be the best position for me to bat. But I haven't had those discussions with the team management yet."

The South African also expressed that the pitches in Abu Dhabi could assist the spinners more than the pacers, "Given the nature of the matches in Abu Dhabi during the ICC Men's T20 World Cup, I think the spinners will have more of an impact as compared to the fast bowlers in the Abu Dhabi T10. However, raw pace can also be quite effective on up and down wickets. So, it'll depend on the conditions on the day."

The Abu Dhabi T10 will be played held at the Zayed Cricket Stadium in Abu Dhabi from 19 November - 4 December 2021.

Set to start at the Zayed Cricket Stadium in UAE from November 19, the countdown to Abu Dhabi T10 season 5 is in its final leg.
As the D-Day for the world’s marquee T10 cricket league draws closer, the anticipation for the latest season is at its peak and the excitement has gripped fans and players alike.

Over the 15-day-long season, six teams – Northern Warriors, The Chennai Braves, Delhi Bulls, Team Abu Dhabi, Bangla Tigers and Deccan Gladiators - will be vying for the coveted trophy. Northern Warriors, two-time champions and current title holders, will be playing to hold on to their perch, albeit with a very new-look squad.

The biggest change for the reigning champs will be at the helm with Jamaica’s Rovman Powell taking over the captaincy duties from fellow West Indian cricketer Nicholas Pooran.

Rovman Powell’s involvement with Northern Warriors has always produced outstanding results with the West Indian helping the team win the trophy in both the editions he has been with them.

Fulfilling the expectations as captain this season, however, will be a different challenge, Powell feels.

“Winning the trophy both the times for Northern Warriors was a highlight as a player in my cricketing career. But now I have the opportunity to lift that cup this year as a captain! I am thankful for the Northern Warriors management for trusting in me and providing me this opportunity. Looking forward to the tournament to begin! I want all our fans to Keep supporting and keep cheering the Warriors,” Rovman Powell says.

While the Northern Warriors will look to continue their dominance in the league, The Chennai Braves – the latest Abu Dhabi T10 team on the block – will be out to make a ‘stormy’ first impression.

The honour of leading the Braves in their maiden Abu Dhabi T10 campaign has been entrusted to Sri Lankan international Dasun Shanaka.

The devastating pinch-hitter is relishing the task at hand. “We have a good combination of all-rounders, fast bowlers and both left and right-handed batsmen in the team. Not just that, The Chennai Clan also strikes a perfect balance of experienced and young players. With Douglas Brown and Ian Bell by our side to coach, the boys are ready to take the field by storm!”

Another highly-anticipated debut at the Abu Dhabi T10 season 5 will be South African ace Faf du Plessis, who has signed on to captain the Bangla Tigers.

“My role as a captain would be to get the team together and create an environment wherein the players are having fun and being themselves. We have a good mix of players and I am confident of the Bangla Tigers doing well in the tournament,” Faf says.

On the other hand, bringing his trademark Caribbean flamboyance and ‘champions’ mindset to the Delhi Bulls this season will be Dwayne Bravo, one of Abu Dhabi T10’s old guards. The West Indian dynamo led the Bulls to the final last season and has set his goals a notch higher this time around.

“We came so close to being champions last season, and we have identified the areas we needed to improve this time around. So we have a good balance in the squad and it will now be about playing consistent cricket,” Dwayne Bravo said.

Dwayne Bravo, however, will need to be wary of Wahab Riaz, who is leading the Deccan Gladiators this season.

“This season is crucial for the Deccan Gladiators. We had a great team last season, but couldn't go far in the tournament. But this season we aim to win it and perform well right from the first game. Our squad combination is solid. We have some very experienced players who are match-winners and some raw talent who can change the game,” Wahab Riaz stated.

English cricketer Liam Livingstone, meanwhile, will have the honours of leading the home team, Team Abu Dhabi.

“I can’t wait to get started in the Abu Dhabi T10 and I’m extremely proud to be captaining Team Abu Dhabi,” Livingstone said. “It’s a real pleasure to not only be representing the home team in the tournament but also captaining them, and I’m sure we’ll have superb support from fans across the entire country.

“Everyone should expect an exciting brand of cricket from Team Abu Dhabi that reflects this wonderful emirate and we have both world-class coaches and world-class players in our squad so our sights are firmly set on lifting the trophy for the first time,” the Englishman added.

With six ace captains, in charge of equally talented squads, having set their sights on the Abu Dhabi T10 trophy this season, not an inch will be given without a battle on the road to the final on December 4.

Dubai/Mumbai: Deccan Gladiators announced Pakistan left-arm fast bowler Wahab Riaz as their captain for the upcoming edition of the Abu Dhabi T10, scheduled to kick off from November 19, 2021, and he said that the team’s first goal will be to qualify for the knock-out stage.

“My aim is to play good cricket as a team. We should entertain the crowd and while doing that, we want to qualify for the semi-finals and the final,” said the skipper.

The team has also brought in Afghanistan’s right-arm fast bowler Hamid Hasan and Asif Khan, the 31-year-old right-handed all-rounder from UAE. Wahab Riaz and Hamid Hasan are two of the most experienced fast bowlers in limited overs cricket and their addition will add more fire power to the Gladiators bowling attack. Asif re-joins the Gladiators after a gap of one year when he played for Pune Warriors. They come in as replacements for Evin Lewis, Ryan Rickleton, Ravi Bopara and Zahoor Khan.

Last edition’s finalist, Deccan Gladiators open their campaign against The Chennai Braves on Saturday, 20th November, 2021.

Speaking about the squad, the skipper said, “It is a great squad, a lot of all-rounders and batsmen who can take the fight to the opposition in-no-time and single-handedly change the complexion of the game. We have Tom Banton and Kohler- Cadmore on the top, followed by David Wiese, Andre Russell, Wanindu Hasaranaga and so many good players in the team, and I think we have all our bases covered.”

Thankful to the Deccan Gladiators team management for picking him in the squad, Asif Khan said, “The squad has a number of experienced cricketers and I am looking forward to learn a lot of things from them during the course of the tournament.”

Deccan Gladiators team owner Mr Gaurav Grover is excited about the newcomers and said: “Players like Wahab Riaz, Hamid Hasan and Asif Khan have added extra energy to our already strong squad. Their inclusion have also provide the right balance and depth to the squad. I am really excited about the prospect of this team and I am looking forward for a memorable tournament this time.”

The Squad: Wahab Riaz (captain), Andre Russell, Tom Banton, Tom Kohler-Cadmore, David Wiese, Tymal Mills, Wanindu Hasaranga, Najibullah Zadran, Odean Smith, Rumman Raees, Asif Khan, Sultan Ahmed, Izharulhaq Naveed, Nav Parbeja, Tom Moores, Anwar Ali & Hamid Hassan. Head Coach – Mushtaq Ahmed.

Team Abu Dhabi got off to a fantastic start in their first encounter of Season 5 of Abu Dhabi T10 against the Bangla Tigers at the Zayed Cricket Stadium in Abu Dhabi on Friday. Chris Gayle's unbeaten innings of 49 runs from 23 balls and Paul Stirling's knock of 59 runs from 23 balls helped Team Abu Dhabi post a total of 145/4 in their 10 overs before Marchant de Lange's bowling effort of 5/23 took Team Abu Dhabi to a 40-wicket win over the Bangla Tigers.

Andre Fletcher smacked Sheldon Cottrell for three boundaries and two sixes in the first over of Tigers' innings. However, the Tigers suffered a massive blow when Marchant de Lange dismissed Captain Faf du Plessis for nought in the very next over. Following the wicket, Johnson Charles and Andre Fletcher smashed a six each, but the latter was bowled out for 24 runs (8 balls) on the last ball of the second over. Team Abu Dhabi put even more pressure on the Tigers when Captain Liam Livingstone removed Charles for 7 runs (4 balls) in the third over and thereafter Jamie Overton dismissed Will Jacks (1 run from 5 balls) leaving the Tigers at 43/4 in 3.3 overs.

Benny Howell and Hazratullah Zazai strung a partnership of 28 runs and took the Tigers to 71/4 in 6 overs, but De Lange tilted the match completely in favour of Team Abu Dhabi by dismissing Hazratullah Zazai, Benny Howell and James Faulkner in the seventh over, leaving the Tigers reeling at 81/7. Thereafter, Team Abu Dhabi bowled three clinical overs and ensured that they walked off the field as winners.

Earlier, Philip Salt and Paul Stirling got Team Abu Dhabi off to a flyer by striking a six and a four in the first five deliveries of the first over of the match. However, Luke Wood pulled things back for Bangla Tigers after running out Salt on the last delivery of the first over. Captain Liam Livingstone came in and smashed James Faulkner for two consecutive sixes in the second over, but Faulkner bowled him out on the last delivery of the second over, leaving Team Abu Dhabi at 27/2.

Thereafter, Paul Stirling and Chris Gayle started the fireworks for Team Abu Dhabi. Stirling smacked Wood for two boundaries and a six in the third over and Gayle struck three sixes and a four off Sabir Rao's bowling in the fifth over taking Team Abu Dhabi's score to 81/2 in 5 overs. Gayle and Stirling plundered Qais Ahmad's over for 31 runs in the sixth over and added another 12 runs before Benny Howell bowled out Stirling (59 runs from 23 balls) in the seventh over. James Faulkner, Isuru Udana and Benny Howell managed to pull things back for the Bangla Tigers in the last three overs as they conceded just 21 runs in the last three overs. However, Team Abu Dhabi posted a mammoth total of 145/4 at the end of their 10 overs with Gayle remaining unbeaten on 49 runs from 23 balls.

Dwayne Bravo's Delhi Bulls took down the defending champions Northern Warriors by six wickets in the opening match of the Abu Dhabi T10 at the Zayed Cricket Stadium in Abu Dhabi on Friday. After being put into bat by the Delhi Bulls, the Warriors posted a competitive total of 107/4 in their 10 overs before breezy knocks from Rahmanullah Gurbaz (30 runs off 10 balls) and Mohammad Hafeez (31 runs off 18 balls) helped the Bulls chase down the total with one over to spare.

The Delhi Bulls got off to a great start as Rahmanullah Gurbaz smashed Joshua Little for a six and a four off the first two deliveries of his team's innings. Gurbaz continued to provide the perfect impetus to the Bulls' innings as he cracked Imran Tahir for three consecutive sixes in the next over. However, the Warriors didn't let the game slip away too quickly as Tahir trapped Gurbaz LBW for 30 runs (10 balls) in the second over and Abhimanyu Mithun dismissed Rilee Rossouw for 6 runs (4 balls) in the very next over.

Sherfane Rutherford took the responsibility and kept the Bulls in the game by smashing a six in each of the fourth and fifth overs, taking the score to 58/2 at the end of the fifth over. Mohammad Hafeez also got into the groove, striking Chris Jordan for three boundaries in the sixth over. With 16 runs in the sixth over, the Bulls were in the driver's seat at 74/2. Rutherford continued to find the boundaries as he smacked Little for a six and a four in the seventh over. Little dismissed Rutherford (29 runs from 15 balls) on the last ball of the seventh over and Jordan removed Hafeez in the ninth over, but Romario Shepherd kept his calm and took the Bulls home with two consecutive boundaries.

Earlier, the Northern Warriors got off to a horrendous start as Kennar Lewis was bowled out by Shiraz Ahmed in the final delivery of the first over. The Warriors were reeling at 4/1 after Lewis departed for just 2 runs off 3 balls. The Delhi Bulls continued to put the pressure on the Warriors as Ravi Rampaul picked up the team's second wicket in the fourth over. Warriors' Samit Patel was bowled out by Rampaul for 15 runs from 10 balls leaving the Warriors at 28/2.

Thereafter, Captain Rovman Powell and Moeen Ali upped the ante for the Warriors. Romario Shepherd was struck for a six and a four as he conceded 17 runs in the fifth over. Powell and Ali continued to terrifically strike the ball and smashed 23 runs off Dwayne Bravo's bowing, taking their score to 69/2 at the end of the sixth over.

Continuing their momentum, Powell smashed consecutive boundaries and Ali struck a six off Dominic Drakes's bowling in the eighth over, taking their score to 98/2. Shepherd pulled things back brilliantly for the Delhi Bulls after he bowled out Powell for 38 runs off 19 balls and conceded only 3 runs in the ninth over. Thereafter, Captain Bravo bowled a magnificent final over, dismissing Ali for 35 runs off 21 balls and conceding just 6 runs which helped the Bulls to restrict the Warriors to a total of 107/4 in 10 overs

Delhi Bulls romp to victory with a brilliant bowling performance

~ Delhi Bulls defeated Bangla Tigers by six wickets in the Abu Dhabi T10 ~

    Saturday, 20 November:

Dwayne Bravo's Delhi Bulls powered their way to yet another victory in the Abu Dhabi T10 after registering a six-wicket win over the Bangla Tigers on Saturday. The Delhi Bulls shone with the ball after winning the toss and restricted the Bangla Tigers to 69/6 in their 10 overs. Sherfane Rutherford and Eoin Morgan's cool and calm innings helped the Delhi Bulls to chase down their target in 8.1 overs.

Delhi Bulls' Rahmanullah Gurbaz fell to Luke Wood on the first ball of the innings and James Faulkner dismissed Rilee Rossouw in the very next over, leaving the Bulls at 9/2 in 1.2 overs. The Bulls found themselves in more trouble when Mohammad Hafeez was caught out in the fourth over.

However, Rutherford struck two boundaries off Tom Hartley's bowling and kept the Bulls in the chase. The West Indian put the Delhi Bulls in the driver's seat with an innings of 27 runs from 14 balls and following his departure Eoin Morgan took the responsibility and finished the chase with an unbeaten innings of 26 runs from 16 balls.

Earlier, the Delhi Bulls ran through the Bangla Tigers batting line-up. Fazalhaq Farooqi dismissed Andre Fletcher and Captain Faf du Plessis in the second over, which left the Tigers reeling at 8/2. Thereafter, Adil Rashid also joined the party, taking the wickets of Hazratullah Zazai and Johnson Charles. The Tigers were in dire straits when Romario Shepherd bowled out Benny Howell as they were reduced to 28/6 in 5.5 overs.

However, Isuru Udana (21* runs from 14 balls) and James Faulkner (19* runs from 13 balls) struck some big hits in the last four overs of their innings. Their unbeaten partnership of 41 runs from 25 balls helped the Tigers raise their score to 69/6 in their 10 overs.

Brief scores: Delhi Bulls 71/4 (Sherfane Rutherford 27, Eoin Morgan 26*, James Faulkner 2-9) beat Bangla Tigers 69/6 (Isuru Udana 21*, James Faulkner 19*, Adil Rashid 2-6) by 6 wickets.
