    Bangladesh v Pakistan | 1st Test | Chattogram | 26-30 November, 2021 | Pre-match Discussion

So what XI will Pakistan play for this 1st Match?

Bangladesh without Shakib so chances much better for Pak to win this with ease.

Another series where Abdullah Shafique along with Saud will warm the bench while awful abid Ali will play along with finished Azhar. They 2 could have easily played the domestic games specially Abdullah Shafique.

what im thinking is ..Again Pakistan will play their A team against Bangladesh B team...

Pakistan are the minnows here who cant test their bench strength even against a lower ranked test team..

Well they didnt even test against Zimbabwe.. On the other hand well done Bangladesh for selecting a young side to face them in T20I series and fighting hard before losing...

Test match is far fetched for Bangladesh, but with this mindset Pakistan will never be able to build strong team but will always be a team of friends if fired together will upset any team..

I would play Imam, cos any day Abid is gonna be fished out, so at least we'll one reliable opener when that happens.

It would be hard on Sajid Khan to be dropped after doing well against Windies but I do prefer Zahid, the leggie.

As for the rest, Saud, Abdullah and all, let them wait; they're essentially injury covers.

    Azhar

    Babar
    Fawad
    Rizwan
    Nuaman Ali
    Hassan Ali
    Shaheen

    Zahid Mahmood
I would move azhar to opening and play Saud at 3 instead of Abdullah.

The above is ideally the future team of Pakistan. Having said that its not fair to thrust so many youngsters in one XI all of sudden. So we would need Azhar and Fawad Alam to smoothen the transition.

Azhar Ali has been averaging 33 in last 4 years, get him out of the team. He looked like a tail ender in WI. He flopped in QEA2021 on flat phattas where every batsmen was scoring centuries for fun.

Babar has a soft spot for his friends. Poor Saud Shakeel

what has sajid khan done to get the nod? looked pretty innocuous against zim, and hasnt really done anything in domestic either, didnt get selected for Pak A, and if theres one type of bowling bang are comfortable against its orthodox spin.

strange selection, zahid would have been a bit of a gamble but could have been something different in a 5 man attack, or bilal who could have used his height more. dont understand the thinking behind that tbh.

Unfortunately Azhar wonít open to allow another middle order batsman the way Hafeez and Malik have continued in limited similar things will happen in tests with Azhar while Saud is likely to thrown in the deep end overseas in SENA with no experience.

Haider should also be considered for tests to develop his game not full time just yet times up for Umar Akmal looks like who couldíve been the best test batsman in the last 5 years.

Bangladesh captain Mominul Haque urged his team-mates to ignore criticism and concentrate on the job at hand ahead of the Test series at home against Pakistan beginning on Friday.

The hosts kick off the new Test Championship cycle with the two-match series against Pakistan starting in Chittagong, having never beaten the visitors either at home or away.

The series follows a dismal run in Twenty20 internationals, with Bangladesh losing eight consecutive matches. Five losses at the World Cup were followed by a three-nil whitewash at home by semi-finalists Pakistan.

This is not the first time Bangladesh have gone through such a phase. We have overcome such times before too," said Test captain Mominul, who was not part of Twenty20 side.

"People got mentally weak... because they pay attention to what is being said. My job is to bring back focus. You cannot stop anyone from talking. So it's better to keep your ears closed," he said on Thursday.

Adding to their woes, star player Shakib Al Hasan, batsman Tamim Iqbal and an in-form all-rounder Taskin Ahmed, will all miss the first Test due to injury.

I also hope Azhar fails badly , if he scores 30-40 runs , that would be good enough for these pinhead selectors to keep him till his son makes his debut with him in the team. Unfortunately this trend is going on since Misbah days , very old and useless players fail against good bowling and scores some runs against minnows and keep blocking young players with while enjoying paid vacation with cricket team.

30 or 40 runs? For seniors like Azhar even 10 runs per match is enough to keep his place.

Too much overconfidence from Pakistani posters.

To me this match is a potential banana skin, particularly if the wicket is a dust bowl. It neutralizes skill and long scores and makes it a lottery.

We have already seen our best batters struggle on these pitches.

I think positive cricket is the only way. Too much caution as Pakistanis are prone to do will be their undoing.

Wow overdramatic much. Pakistan's test team is probably the strongest of all the 3 formats. Sometimes people are too hard on a team.

Pakistan has so many strengths going into this test series it's unbelievable, you guys are too pessimistic on here.

The only thing i've not liked is the lack of prep going into this 1st test.

Yeah this is why I expected Imam to play after being selected on the squad. He's in hot form in domestic.

Biggest issue is Azhar continuously occupying a spot when a younger and better player in Saud is much more deserving of it. They might get by in sub-continent condition but this is why they're such a poor side in SENA conditions.

Hmmm shall we talk facts for a change? For lack of any better statistical reference, let's go with ICC rankings and test record.

    1. Pakistan is 5th in test rankings which is pretty poor
    2. Pakistan is 3rd in T20 rankings, which means that is statistically the strongest format for Pakistan, not tests
    3. Pakistan has lost 5 of their last 6 overseas test series (Zimbabwe being the only win), and has even lost home series against New Zealand.

This does not sound like a very good team to me. It seems Pakistan is 5th only because apart from the teams above them, every other team is in even worse condition.

So I don't know about overdramatic but if we were to go with opinions rather than facts, then everyone loudest on PP is a winner.

Even taking into account Bangladesh's team's weak position, my point was that a dust bowl evens out things a lot (ever seen Babar play spin?) and knowing Pakistan's notorious collapses, anything can happen. Pakistan should win but this is a banana skin.

Seeing the kind of pitches they offered in t20s I am quite sure they will dish out proper bunsen burner.
Actually that's the only way they can beat Pakistan.

    3. Pakistan has lost 5 of their last 6 overseas test series (Zimbabwe being the only win), and has even lost home series against New Zealand.

All in all Pakistan have done well this year and inshAllah are a shoe in for the test championship. We have to give credit where it is due, NZ played really well on their home conditions and that Kyle Jamieson is a test monster.

The same thing happens to SENA countries when they visit us as well, they take a beating.

This kind of mindset is expected from a minnow nation's cricket follower, loss in NZL was a shame , particularly the way Azhar, Abid , Butt and that useless chronically unfit guy Harris Soahil batted. NZL was a good side not something like WI of 80s. , we should have beaten them , no credit is losing badly there.

Bangladesh now have five pacers in the 18-man squad for the first Test in Ebadat, Rahi, Raja, Khaled and Shahidul

Pace bowlers Khaled Ahmed and Shahidul Islam have been included in the Bangladesh squad for the first Test against Pakistan which starts Friday in Chittagong.

“We have a few injury concerns with the pacers. Taskin (Ahmed) and Shariful (Islam) are not available for this Test and we needed cover for the other seamers. Khaled and Shahidul are both fit and ready,” chairman of the national selection panel Minhajul Abedin said to the media.

Bangladesh now have five pacers in the 18-man squad for the first Test in Ebadat Hossain Chowdhury, Abu Jayed Chowdhury Rahi, Rejaur Rahman Raja, Khaled and Shahidul.

    Bangladesh squad for first Test

Mominul Haque (Captain), Shadman Islam, Saif Hasan, Nazmul Hossain Shanto, Mushfiqur Rahim, Liton Das, Nurul Hasan, Mehedi Hasan Miraz, Nayeem Hasan, Taijul Islam, Ebadat Hossain, Abu Jayed Chowdhury Rahi, Yasir Ali Rabbi, Mahmudul Hasan Joy, Rejaur Rahman Raja, Shakib al Hasan (subject to being declared fit to play)

Don't like how Imam gets to bypass Abdullah Shafique now. I was a big critic of Abdullah when he was in the squad before. But he performed quite well in Shaheens tour of SL. Should be his turn to get the debut rather than recalling Imam. Plus Imam being a leftie is bound to fall to Mehidy.

I have a feeling Sajid might do well on this tour. Probably his first association with Saqlain.

Imran Butt didn't play in NZ series. Abid and Shan were the openers for that series. NZ has been a strong test side at home. Even India has been unable to beat them there. Only SA and Aus have beaten them there in last 7-8 years.

Our previous teams used to beat NZL all the time, if this team is weak , then why to praise them. " good fight: is good enough for teams like BD, Zimb and Ireland, not for Pakistan .

Clearly NZ of the past is not the NZ of now. They're a powerhouse and a great well rounded team across the formats. Golden era under an incredible captain.

There is nothing so special about this NZL team , other than Williamson and to some extend Boult there is no world class player they have. "power house " teams don;t concede 258/4 to a inexperienced Indian team like they did at Kanpur . Looks like you has just started watching cricket, will learn with time,
