Bangladesh fight back to reach 253/4 at Stumps on Day 1 of the 1st Test against Pakistan

    Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium, Chattogram
    November 26-30, 10:00 local

Bangladesh will hope to come up with a much better showing in the longest format after being whitewashed 3-0 by the visitors in the T20 leg. They will be without experienced campaigners Shakib Al Hasan, Mushfiqur Rahim and Mahmud Ullah, who recently announced his retirement from the longest format. The onus now very much will be on the younger players to prove their mettle against a Pakistan side who are currently enjoying a rich vein of form. They could field as many as three debutants Ė Mahmudul Hasan Joy, Yasir Ali and Rajaur Rahman Raja in the match.

Pakistan will welcome the return of Imam-ul-Haq in the Test set-up once again but will enjoy having a well-settled batting order. Hasan Ali will partner Shaheen Afridi in the pace department. The selection of spinners will also be interesting to see with Sajid Khan likely to pair up with Nauman Ali. Faheem Ashraf will lend balance to the side.

The two sides last faced off in a Test series in 2015 in Bangladesh. The visitors ended up winning the series with a 1-0 margin.

After a draw in the opening Test on a batting paradise in Khulna, Pakistan dominated the following match in Dhaka. Azhar Ali scored a mammoth double ton as Pakistan posted a total of 557/8.

They then bowled out Bangladesh for 207 before scoring 195/6 declared and setting the hosts a target of 550. Bangladesh crumbled under pressure and would be skittled out for 221.

Mominul Haque (Bangladesh captain): "It is a challenge for a young captain like me to head into the new WTC cycle with a young team. We have always required senior players on the Test side. Shakib bhai, Tamim bhai and Taskin are regular players. But it is a continuous process. We have to move on. We cannot be disappointed all the time. I firmly believe it is a huge opportunity for the younger players."

I am tired of dustbowl pitches in BD. I hope to see a good pitch. I am even okay with a flat pitch.

I think a flat pitch would suit BD more than a dustbowl pitch as Pakistan have good spinners themselves.

Great to see Abdullah actually picked. Did not think it would happen but good job on the move.

I hope it's a long leash too and not being kicked out if he struggles in a couple of matches.

    Like I said.

Hasan Ali gets a wicket. Similar delivery to the one Pakistan didn't review. And it's a wicket. He is getting huge swing when he releases the ball.

I think pakistan could do better with 3 man pace attack having Abbas in place of sajid khan on these conditions vs bangladesh who ate weaker against pace and instead of faheeem play spin all rounder like shadab but he isn't in squad and Bilal asif isn't as credible.

He was so pathetic in whole tournament. Probably the worst ever performance by a Pakistani player in ICC events or maybe the worst performance by a Pakistani player in ICC events after Inzi in 2003 WC.

Looks neither to be honest. Pacers are getting good movement here and there's some spin too but nothing crazy.

Bangladesh would be disappointed here , they have lost at least 2 wickets more than they would have hoped for.

This is probably the last recognized pair , they need to try and bat out this session here. A good first inning will go a long way , you never know how pitch will behave on third and fourth day.

At this point, old Pakistan would be introducing reverse swing.

I am not sure but looks like Pakistanis aren't even working on the ball that way where they shine one side and roughen the other one up.

Hasan Ali, Nauman Ali and Abid Ali are waste of space. Abbas is better bowler than Hasan for sure. Imam is better than Abid.

I do not think any big name would be interested in working with Pakistan.
