Oh man, should have tried to seen it out.

186 overs left and India effectively 49/0.

They only need to score 200 runs and declare. We'll need to slow scoring, it will be tough to see out 50 overs on day 5.

India are in a great position, can't see us surviving on day 5.

Might even be 3-4 down on day 4 lol.

49 is an extremely handy lead on this wicket. India should look to bat until the first hour after tea tomorrow and declare with a lead of around 280-300

Just got to hope that we're able to do something with the spin that's there, our bowlers aren't good as India's in that regard and I doubt the Indian batsmen will be as spooked as our batsmen.

Batting is India's weak point in this match... Kiwis need to strike early...can't denied the possibility of collapse tomorrow..New Zealand seamers bowled beautiful in the first inning..India still have uper hand though..

Less about the conditions itself but the team that bats first can pile on the runs and you're under the pump in the second innings facing a daunting total. Those pitches are bad for a different reason, really flat. You can bring up our record, but we've just sucked there and we haven't been able to make use of the good conditions.
I was telling how India won & drew matches batting last on those Australian pitches!

An Axar Patel-led bowling attack bowled New Zealand out for 246, 49 runs behind India's first innings total on day three in Kanpur.

India spinners headlined the action on day three of the first Test with Patel (5/62), R Ashwin (3/82) and Ravindra Jadeja (1/57) sharing nine wickets between them. Pace bowler Umesh Yadav claimed one wicket.

Before stumps, India faced five overs, scoring 14 runs for the loss of one wicket. Shubman Gill became Kyle Jamieson's 50th Test wicket, falling early for 1.

Earlier, New Zealand resumed Day 3 on 129/0, with Will Young on 75* and Tom Latham keeping him company on 50*. India started the day with pacer Ishant Sharma, but in the next over itself, they introduced spin with R Ashwin bowling from the other end.

The visitors' openers continued to further consolidate their stand, stitching a 151-run partnership – the second-highest opening stand for the Black Caps in India.

The introduction of Ashwin from the start reaped rewards for India in the form of Young's wicket. The New Zealand batter was tackling with the spinner's bowling nicely with impressive footwork, however, he was beaten by a flat delivery outside off stump, as Ashwin induced a faint edge with substitute wicket-keeper KS Bharat completing a good catch. Young fell 11 runs short of a well-deserved century.

India got another success with Umesh Yadav snaring the prized scalp of New Zealand skipper Kane Williamson at the stroke of lunch. Williamson mistimed the shot and the ball hit straight onto the front pad. The review showed three reds and the skipper had to make the long walk back to the pavilion, after scoring 18.

In the second session, India made a good comeback with the ball with regular wickets. Axar led the onslaught with three big wickets including that of set batter Latham's. He first had Ross Taylor caught behind for 11, followed by an LBW dismissal of Henry Nicholls (2) and the all-important scalp of Latham, who fell five runs short of a century.

Towards the end of the afternoon session, Ravindra Jadeja snared his first wicket of the match, bowling Rachin Ravindra for 13. New Zealand went to tea at 249/6, with a deficit of 96.

Axar continued his brilliance with the ball in the final session, adding two more wickets to his tally and claiming his fifth Test five-for; while Ashwin wrapped up the New Zealand innings on 296 after snaring the last two wickets.

New Zealand threw away a golden opportunity to win in India.

India should now win this comfortably.

Very poor effort from Kane and Co. after such a commanding position. India has rested 5-6 main players, the game was there for taking.

India sans Rohit and Pant are very poor batting lineup. They can be bowled out below 200

Why? Should try to bat around 80 overs and scores around 220+.. That'd be enough if pitch is crumbling (Not watching the game)..

Irrespective of result, have to say NZ has been impressive this test. Not many teams can give India a scare in India, especially when we have our full strength spin attack.

But they have blown a big opportunity here, after the 200/1 start they would have hoped to bat till lunch on day 4 and get a lead of 70-80 runs. More than enough to make this ordinary Indian batting unit tremble.

NZ still can win but the path has only got tougher. Huge first session coming up, will decide the match since old SG ball is much easier to tackle. Hope India extends the lead to 130 runs without losing more than 3 wickets. Back us to defend anything above 225 in the final 4 sessions.

Another excellent day of test cricket. NZ should have been more aggressive with their strike rates and once india bowlers got into rhythm it became tougher to score.
But looking at trend on all 3 days runs are hard to come by, yesterday it was only 181 runs .. All to look out for 4th day!!
