    Pakistan (286 & 203/2) defeat Bangladesh (330 & 157) by 8 wickets to win 1st Test

Pakistan begin the final day on 109/0, with a further 93 runs needed to win. Abid Ali (56*) and Abdullah Shafique (53*) at the crease.

Will Pakistan wrap up a comfortable victory or could the Bangladesh spinners throw a spanner in the works?

Great stuff by the pair to go after Taijul. The sweep shots unsettled him and forced him to change his length

Convincing victory for Pakistan in the end but the team still has many under performers.

    A good win for Pakistan.

But our batting still leaves much to be desired.

Babar Azam is a beast against pacers but plays like a hack when facing quality spin. Let's see how he fares in 2nd test!

Feel for Taijul, he bowled like a champ and deserved a 10fer.

Pakistan sealed a convincing eight-wicket win over Bangladesh, gaining crucial ICC World Test Championship points.

Bangladesh claimed two big wickets but it was a mountainous task for them to deny Pakistan a deserving victory. Babar Azam and Azhar Ali made sure there were not any more hiccups after their openers laid a solid foundation, chasing down the remaining runs in the morning session of day five.

Earlier, Pakistan resumed the day on 109/0, with only 93 runs needed and 10 wickets in hand, on the final day. Their openers, Abid and Shafique looked determined to take their side across the line in the morning session itself.

After scoring just one run in the first three overs, Abid struck one boundary off Taijul Islam. In the spinner's next over, the Pakistan opener smashed him for three fours in a row with victory in clear sight.

In the 10th over of the day, the introduction on Mehidy Hasan did the trick for Bangladesh. He snared the wicket of Shafique, trapping him in front for 73 and breaking the solid opening stand of 151.

But that wicket came too late for the hosts as Pakistan were just 51 runs away from a win with nine wickets still in hand.

Azhar Ali joined Abid at the crease, coming in at No.3. The latter squeezed in a couple of boundaries and moved to his nervous nineties but Taijul got the better off Abid's nerves as he had him trapped lbw for 91.

However, the job was almost done by Pakistan. Skipper Azam(13*) and Azhar(24*) scored the remaining runs, helping their side seal victory and taking them 1-0 up in the series.

Abid was adjudged Player of the Match for his exceptional contribution with the bat – 133 and 91. His partner, Shafique, who made his Test debut in this match, had an unforgettable outing. He registered scores of 52 and 73.

With the ball, it was Pakistan's pacers who made the difference. Hasan Ali claimed a five-wicket haul in the first innings while Shaheen Afridi starred in a similar fashion in the second innings.

The two teams will play the second Test in Dhaka, starting 4 December.

Man of the Match Abid Ali speaking after the end of the match:
The ICC Men's World Test Championship is very important to us

We will try to move up the points table of the Test Championship with a win in the next match

My aim is to carry on with the same momentum in the second Test match

Whilst I am pleased with these performances, I also know that these are now a thing of the past and I need to concentrate on performing well in the next game where we have to play with a positive mind in Dhaka too

We both planned to stay on the wicket as long as possible and we kept on pointing out each other's mistakes while batting

It's great to have won the Man of the Match award and for this I would like to credit to playing domestic cricket which has given me confidence

I completed a century in the first innings, but could not do the same in the second but that is part of the game.

I would like to congratulate Abdullah Shafique on his Test debut. He played with great confidence. We both planned to stay at the wicket for as long as possible & we kept on pointing out each other's mistakes and supporting each other whilst batting.

Congrats Pakistan but it was an expected win.

All the hardwork Bangladesh made over past few years are now gone. Their cricket is in total downfall. At one point they definitely looked like 2nd best Asian side but now they are even behind Afg and SL. Their main player Shakib always seems to be injured/resting against bigger sides but fit for league cricket somehow. Other senior players like Mushy, Tamim and Mahmudullah are on a decline. They would still win at home here n there against teams that are weak against spin but when countered with other Asian sides or outside their home turf they would lose.

Pakistan on the other hand is a team on the rise with some very promising young cricketers like Abdullah Shafique, Haidar Ali, Rohail Nazir, Dahaani etc. On top of that their main players like Shaheen, Babar and Rizwan are all young too and just entering their peaks. I would be surprised if this Pakistan team wins few SENA tours in next cycle and dont become top 3 test side in next couple of years.

Interesting years ahead for test cricket.

Mominul takes blame on himself and top-order

Bangladesh captain Mominul Haque admitted that his team were hardly ever in control during the course of the five days of the first Test against Pakistan which they lost by eight wickets on Tuesday.

Bangladesh had taken a first-innings lead of 44 runs, thanks to big contributions with the bat from Liton Das and Mushfiqur Rahim and a seven-wicket haul from left-arm spinner Taijul Islam. However, Pakistan eventually coasted to the victory target of 202 runs on the fifth morning.

Mominul, speaking at the virtual post-match briefing, gave credit to Liton, Musfiqur and Taijul for stepping up but felt Pakistan dominated the match overall.

"I think we were never in control of the match. When Mushfiqur bhai and Liton played well, we got some control and then Taijul bowled well, which is how we stayed in the match for four days," Mominul opined.

The 30-year-old singled out the performance of Taijul, who got eight wickets in the match on what Mominul felt remained a flat wicket for five days.

"The wicket was completely flat and in favour of batsmen. Our pace bowlers need to learn how to bowl of flat decks," Mominul said. "Among the two or three takeaways in this match is the performance of Taijul. Taking seven wickets wasn't an easy task. The ways he has been striving to improve in the last one and a half years is commendable," the Bangladesh skipper said.

Bangladesh were set back early in both innings, losing top four wickets for 49 runs and 37 runs in the two innings. The skipper himself had a forgettable match, scoring six and naught in those two innings. He took the blame on himself and the top-order batting for the defeat.

"I should have batted with more responsibility. If I could have played a good knock at four, things could have been better. In any format it is difficult to make a comeback if you lose top four wickets in first 10 overs....The top-order definitely made the difference. If anyone contributed in top-order, things would have been different," Mominul said.

Pakistan spinners were disappointing in this match.Sajid took a lot of wickets in domestic cricket but he is not international level player.Time to look for spinners. If there are no decent spinners in first class then may be PCB should look for them in club cricket.

Believe it or not, I wrote this same thing on a Bangladeshi platform a few months ago. I was grilled by other Bangladeshis. LMAO!

I saw this decline coming months ago. Many BD fans had their heads buried in the sand. This is a reality check for them now.

I hope things will get better but a lot need to change for that to happen.

Yeah. That home Test loss against Afghanistan was just shocking.

How can you lose against a country that is war torn, has no real cricket infrastructure, has no real cricket history, and is a new Test nation?

From 2007 to 2018, Bangladesh were not world beaters. But, there was a process in place. That process developed players who could at least do the basics right. Not the case anymore. Things have gotten worse.

BD cricket needs a competent management and players also need to develop better attitudes. A lot of the current players behave like spoiled brats.

I saw this decline coming months ago. Many BD fans had their heads buried in the sand. This is a reality check for them now.

I hope things will get better but a lot need to change for that to happen.
Mosaddek Hossain seems like a real good talent. Don't know why he's never been given consistent chances in Tests.
