Who is currently the best all-format wicket-keeper/batter?
It seems we are living in a golden era of fantastic and entertaining wicket-keeper/batters - Mohammad Rizwan, Jos Buttler, Jonny Bairstow, Rishabh Pant, Quinton de Kock, Mushfiqur Rahim.
All with varying strengths and qualities.
Who do you reckon is the best?

Also those days of 1 keeper/captain for all formats are mostly over.

In LOIs it's Buttler of course and in tests it's difficult you can't say Buttler in that format of course. So I'd probably go with Pant at the moment.
But if we're considering all formats as the thread mentions, then I'd have to go with Quinton De Kock he's the only one that's really good in all 3 formats. Test average of 39 @ 71, ODI average of 46 @ 96, T20I average of 34 @ 135. Not to mention he's been playing in all formats consistently since 2013 and so he's done this over an extended period of time.Last edited by QalandarFan; 2nd July 2022 at 01:25.

My precious vote has gone to Jonny Bairstow
PP's own self proclaimed sharpshooter and defender of Islam and Pakistan.

Bairstow was already really good in LOIs where there was a competition with 2-3 other top keepers but, his recent heroics in test cricket currently makes him the best all format keeper.

Specialist Keepers are a thing of the past.
No respect for them.
England should play Billings instead of Foakes.

For me it comes down to someone who is the #1 wicket keeper for their team and not a part timer. Has to be between Rizwan and Pant as England keeps switching it up.

Rizwan.
Primary job of a keeper-batsman is keeping. Rizwan is very tidy behind the stumps. Also, he is very capable with the bat.

From an Australian perspective it has to be Pant. Falls into the category of cricketers with Ambrose, Botham, Hadlee, VVS and Pujara who scare us and have played pivotal roles in winning 1 or more (or 3 in Pujara's case)
Pujara's the worst. Feel like we would have won 2017 and 2020/21 without him playing for India, as well as having a much better chance in 2018/19. 2013 he was also fantastic - we were terrible and would have lost anyway but he was huge and from a batsmanship perspective maybe his best series - strike rate of 62

There is no all format best wk batsman right now.
Pant is making most impact with the bat in test cricket. With last odi hundred he has proved his potential in white ball cricket but need to play many more innings like that to claim the best wk batsman title in cricket.
Buttler is having big impact in white ball cricket since many years now. He has set pretty lofty standards for a no.5/6 batsman and finishers. Having good success as an opener in t20s as well.
