Imam (90*) & Shafique (89*) take Pakistan to 181/0 at Stumps on Day 2 in reply to England's 657
State of the game so far...
What sort of score can Pakistan limit England to?

What sort of score can Pakistan limit England to?
The rate England are scoring at they could get 800 easily midway through day 2 and still have enough to force a positive result. England should look to bat once and grind pakistan to the point where they need 600 to avoid a follow on.

If England believes that their bowlers will also struggle they can go for a total like 800 runs and go for all out attack. And also it will make the bowlers very tired for next Test

I think England will be all out for around 600 or so - Bazball comes with risks, just because it worked on one day does not mean it will work every time.

England need 650 minimum but I’m not sure they will get it. Almost everything ran for them on Day 1, so on Day 2 if things play out differently they might end up getting bundled out for 600. But that would still be a decent total to bowl at.

Sack Ramiz and demerit point for this pitch.
-
2nd December 2022, 04:17 #13
Yes it was Ramiz who conceded 506 runs in 75 overs. Flat wicket is a justification for not taking wickets. It is not a justification for getting thrashed in this fashion.
This was a thrashing that we have not seen before in Test cricket. A day we will never forget. Absolutely loved every single minute of it.

I expect England to declare at 700-ish. After that, Pakistan would probably score 500-600. Game should be a draw.

I don't mind losing a test match as it's part of game.. but for God sake make a supporting wicket so test match is interesting. In this case,it was hard to watch 10 min highlights of first days play..
This pitch is exactly what's needed to kill test cricket...

600-620 will likely be final score.
Expecting Jacks and Livingstone to get out quickly slogging after fall of 5th wicket.
Pak should just pack the boundary and play on batters egos to make them try to go for sixes.

Eng will have scoreboard pressure but even they will struggle if they don't get early wkts.
Pak's foolish selection of 4 number 11s will help them though. Can expect max 300-350 first inns score from Pak

Pakistan need to salvage pride with quick wickets otherwise England will stroll to 800+.
Whether Pakistan even surpass 300 themselves is anyone's guess.

Wrist spin is always risky on flat decks. You must play your best wrist spinner if you absolutely have to. Quick finger spin would be better here.

Much better from Pakistan today. I understand they got all wickets because batsmen are throwing their bat at everything but then that's what they did yesterday as well.
This is more like a T20 Test match, you have to set T20 fields, bowl Slower balls and all that to get wickets, that also if batters continue to attack.
If I were England I would have batted all day today and waited for the pitch to break at least a little bit. A quick end to this innings will now mean Pak playing for the next 2 days and scoring 500.

This pitch is a 750 pitch. There is no need to score everything in 4 sessions unless they are confident Two trundlers from England can roll over Pakistan on this pitch. Leach probably will be a threat. But on this pitch he will also be a cannon fodder

I’ll trust Brendon McCullum’s strategic approach here, as with an almost perfect win rate as head coach so far it might just be the case that he knows what he’s doing.
