I am not very excited about Umar Gul as bowling coach…though I really liked him, but quetta gladiator’s bowling performances this season havent been upto the mark… esp Naseem Shah, seems to have regressed rather than improved this season in quetta….a,though I had high expectations from Umar Gul as bowling coach..
Regd M Yousif..he has been with team since 1 yr and our batsmen have shown zero improvement under him..
Although its just a 3 t20 series…and doesnt matter much…i hope we have better choices when our permanent support staff is announced in future, under Mickey Arthur

Abdul Rehman has a great reputation in the domestic set-up. Everyone that has worked with him has spoken about him in glowing terms.

I wonder why the PCB announced Yousuf as the head coach yesterday and today it's Abdur Rehman.
Oversight or something else.

I think Umar Gul being appointed a temporary bowling coach is a pretty good appointment imo. He seems to more knowledgeable then previous bowling coaches for Pakistan.

Really like these selection of coaches actually. I think most foreign coaches are very overrated, and the ones who are good don't want to come to Pakistan sadly. Domestic coaches will know Pakistani domestic better, and no language barriers. I would much rather appoint the best domestic coaches in Pakistan, than a mediocre coach just because he's foreign. I think it's very toxic to think Pakistani coaches can not be good, or cause problems in dressing room. There's no reason for that to be true. If we go for a foreign coach I would want the caliber of someone like Andy Flower. Not guys who have been sacked from so many countries (including Sri Lanka) and then only interested in turning up in an online capacity. I see no point of going for a mediocre coach just because he is foreign.

It is an honour and privilege for me to serve my country and wear the star on my chest once again but this time as the bowling coach for the National team inshaAllah. May Allah bless the team with lots of success. Pakistan Zindabad @TheRealPCB

Have been disappointed by his stint as bowling coach at quetta gladiators this year.. quetta’s bowling has been pretty below average this yr.. naseem seemed to have regressed and even Hasnain’s pace has gone down by quite a bit.. I had high hopes from Umar gul but bit disappointed by him

A good opportunity for Abdul Rahman and if successful he should be given an extended run as coach.
He s been a successful domestic level coach so lets see if he can make the transition to international level.

i like it. A domestic coach being promoted for doing well in the level just below internationals. It’s like a player being promoted to test cricket after solid seasons of FC.
A domestic coach who is a good coach is invaluable. Same culture, language- the communication is way way easier than a foreign coach

Abdur Rehman, a highly rated coach. Very good with his decision making. But he will be forced by the big guns to do certain selections to the starting line up. For instance: shan masood

He’s the best domestic coach that we have. Vastly experienced, raises his team’s performances and makes players play above their ability.
Has such a great player development record that an old Rafatullah Mohmand got into the Pakistan squad because of his exceptional performances under Abdul Rehman a few years ago.
Not another Saqlain.

Pakistan Cricket team's batting coach, Muhammad Yousuf, will not be accompanying the team to Afghanistan due to some personal reasons.
Reports suggest that Yousuf's wife is unwell, and he has informed the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) and team management about his unavailability for the Sharjah series.

Now that Yousuf isn't going to travel with the squad the Head Coach now has total control and can pick his own team alongside Shadab.

Let's see how Abdul Rehman gets on. Has a good domestic reputation but so did Mohammad Wasim.
-
Yesterday, 11:59 #34
But, Mohammad Wasim was never given a role with the team. His reputation was because of his work with Northern cricket and the brand of cricket he brought to the regional setup. Being a chief selector is a completely different job and Mohammad Wasim was awarded that based upon his performances as head coach of Northern which to be honest didnt make much sense. Human handling, creating a dressing room environment etc is really different from just mainly picking the National squads.
