Good game and good win. Doug Pederson gets so much disrespect. Carson had been playing poor, but media and fans were acting like he was the only reason they were losing. That being said...next two weeks are Pittsburgh & Baltimore. Howie needs to go!

Niners with the ALL the injuries still played pretty well and should have won but for the atrocious Mullens - he played an ugly game with a fumble and gimme interceptions. Brandon Aiyuk will be a star receiver though. Niners will have to get some guys back soon. Garoppolo is set to be back.

As competitive as NFC west is, Niners will have to avoid so many turnovers to even find a wild card spot if there is gonna be a full NFL season this year. As of now, they are the worst of the lot in the division considering the injury list which says something about this division.

Kittle is a beast. Best TE in the league slightly better than Kelce and a lot better than Ertz... Best 49er TE has over taken Brent Jones imo..

Quarterback Patrick Mahomes threw two touchdown-passes as the Kansas City Chiefs beat the New England Patriots 26-10 to maintain their unbeaten run.

The Patriots were without Cam Newton, who was one of two players to test positive for coronavirus, causing the match to be delayed 24 hours to Monday.

Kittle, if remained injury free, should end up as top 3 TE ever. This guy is a beast and 49ers should add a franchise player tag to him. This guy can do perhaps everything in the book except throwing a ball which I have not witnessed.

To me, Kittle is number 1 followed by Vernon Davis. Brent Jones was great in those old days when athletes were generally not as good as today.

No need to Tag Kittle, he has been signed long term, I believe he is now the highest paid TE in the league and rightfully so.

New England Patriots cornerback Stephon Gilmore tests positive for coronavirus

New England Patriots cornerback Stephon Gilmore has tested positive for COVID-19 on the back of Monday night's rescheduled clash with the Kansas City Chiefs.

The 2019 Defensive Player of the Year's case follows on from that of quarterback Cam Newton, whose positive test over the weekend forced the Patriots-Chiefs game to be moved from Sunday to Monday.

Practice squad defensive lineman Bill Murray also tested positive following the game, with the Patriots having cancelled Wednesday's practice.

NFL Network's Tom Pelissero was the first to break the news of Gilmore's test, while ESPN's Dianna Russini reported that all Chiefs tests returned negative.

New England had only travelled to Kansas City on the morning of the game and took two separate planes, including one for those that had been in close contact with Newton.

The Patriots, who lost 26-10 to the Super Bowl champions, are due to host the Denver Broncos on Sunday, however it remains to be seen whether that game will be impacted.

Meanwhile in Tennessee, a further two Titans players have tested positive for COVID-19, following on from last week's outbreak that saw the team's matchup with the Pittsburgh Steelers shifted to later in the season.

Two new cases mean the organisation will not re-open its facility on Wednesday, despite having initially looked set to return to practice thanks to two successive days of negatives tests on Monday and Tuesday.

The Tennessee Titans have confirmed a 23rd positive coronavirus test and their game against the Buffalo Bills is one of two moved by the NFL.

The Titans have had 13 players and 10 staff test positive since 24 September.

Their match against the Bills has been put back from Sunday to Tuesday and could be rescheduled again if there are more positive Covid-19 cases.

The Denver Broncos against the New England Patriots has been moved a day, from Sunday to Monday.

"These scheduling decisions were made to ensure the health and safety of players, coaches and game day personnel and in consultation with medical experts," said an NFL statement.

Patriots cornerback Stephon Gilmore's positive coronavirus test was confirmed on Wednesday, while quarterback Cam Newton and defensive lineman Bill Murray are also isolating after contracting the virus.

Ryan Tannehill has gone from 'Clark Kent to Superman' since joining Tennessee Titans, says Mike Florio

Tennessee Titans quarterback Ryan Tannehill has gone from 'Clark Kent to Superman', according to Pro Football Talk's Mike Florio, as he led his team to a 4-0 start on the season.

Tannehill completed 21 of 28 passes for 195 yards and three touchdowns (rushing for another score) in the Titans' 42-16 win over the Buffalo Bills on Tuesday night.

Drafted by the Miami Dolphins with the No 8 pick of the 2012 draft, Tannehill was traded to the Titans in 2018 and has been hugely impressive since taking over as starter midway through last season.

"The narrative around Ryan Tannehill has been so baked into the DNA of the football fan, that we resist what is before our very eyes: and that is a guy who is becoming, or has become an elite quarterback," said Florio.

"He looks different. There's something about him; maybe he has just filled out after eight years in the NFL, but his neck is thick and jaw is more protruding.

"It's like he went from being Clark Kent to Superman at some point over the last eight years.

"It cuts against the trend in the NFL in recent years where you expect the guy to figure it out right away and, if you don't, you're thrown to the curb.

"This is a guy who was a receiver at Texas A&M and played quarterback for only one year before the Joe Philbin-led Dolphins made him a top-10 draft pick in 2012.

"He was starting to come into his own in 2016 with Adam Gase, until he took a low hit from Calais Campbell. And it's amazing to think the Dolphins had to pay part of his salary to unload him onto the Titans."

San Francisco 49ers and New England Patriots with points to prove in Sunday night clash

The San Francisco 49ers head to New England on Sunday in a matchup that would have been marked on many people's calendars preseason.

Two of the greatest franchises in NFL history - one with a record-equalling six Super Bowl titles to their name, the other with five and having reached a seventh back in February.

But, both teams have somewhat stumbled out of the gates this season, with the Patriots losing two straight to slip back to 2-3 and San Francisco, at 3-3, seemingly still nursing a hangover from that 31-20 defeat to the Chiefs down in Miami earlier this year.

Odell Beckham Jr: Cleveland Browns star out for season with ACL injury

Cleveland Browns wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr is expected to miss the rest of the season after suffering an anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) tear.

Beckham Jr, 27, was injured in the first quarter of the Browns' victory over the Cincinnati Bengals on Sunday.

The club said an MRI scan on Monday had confirmed an ACL tear in his left knee.

Reports suggest the injury is likely to require surgery in early November and will keep Beckham Jr out of action for between six to nine months.

"I am probably going to beat myself up about that one for a long time," said Browns quarterback Baker Mayfield.

"He is a guy who fights for this team, and in doing that, he got hurt. Prayers and hopes for the best. That one sucks."

The Browns are currently third in the AFC North after five wins and two losses this season.

Chicago Bears are the 'weakest 5-2 team I've ever seen', Jeff Reinebold tells Inside The Huddle

Jeff Reinebold, speaking on the latest episode of Inside The Huddle, has described the "talent-deficient" Chicago Bears as "the weakest 5-2 team I have ever seen".

The Bears lost 24-10 to the Los Angeles Rams on Monday night, with their offense, which has managed to put up 30 points only once this season, again struggling.

Chicago are ranked 29th in the NFL in total offense, 27th in scoring and 25th in passing, while their rushing attack is bottom of the pile. It has been the strength of their defense which has propelled the team to a 5-2 record and into playoff contention.

"They're right where you expect them to be, in my opinion," Sky Sports NFL expert Reinebold said on the latest episode of Inside The Huddle, which you can listen to as a podcast in the player above.

"[Head coach] Matt Nagy is under fire for his play calling right now - should he give up play-calling duties or not? - but here's the bottom line, they are talent-deficient on offense.

"Start with the offensive line, they were horrendous last year; now they're just bad - so there is improvement there, horrendous to bad!

"They do not have a running game at all. Their best running back is [receiver] Cordarrelle Patterson. They've got two threats outside, Allen Robinson and Darnell Mooney, who has been a real pleasant surprise - that kid has a bright future.

"The Bears are who we thought they were. This is historic with the Bears; on the 1985 Super Bowl team, it was Jim McMahon and Walter Payton, but they won that Super Bowl because of defence. When they got back to the Super Bowl, under Lovie Smith [in 2006], they did so because of defence.

"The Bears, since forever, have been deficient on offense. For me, don't hang it on Nagy, put it on the general manager who is responsible for getting you players because, right now, they are not good enough.

"They are the weakest 5-2 team I have ever seen."

Lamar Jackson must 'show something' as Baltimore Ravens face Pittsburgh Steelers

Lamar Jackson and the Baltimore Ravens face the Pittsburgh Steelers in an AFC North divisional rivalry matchup on Sunday, and Good Morning Football's Peter Schrager says he wants to see the 2019 NFL MVP put on a show.

In comparison to the gaudy numbers he put up last season, Jackson has had a relatively quiet start to 2020, with 1,135 yards passing, 10 TDs, two interceptions through six games, to go with 346 yards and two scores on the ground.

The Ravens' record is 5-1, one game behind the unbeaten 6-0 Steelers, with a Week Three defeat to the defending Super Bowl champion Kansas City Chiefs the only blemish.

However, that defeat was Jackson's third of his career against the Chiefs, while he is yet to win a playoff game after tasting defeat in his first two, leading to accusations he comes up short in the big games.

"We are fickle as a sports media and, as we head into this game, I'm not thinking of Lamar as the best quarterback in football, I don't know if he's top five, even top 10 this year," Schrager said on Good Morning Football.

"When we list the best quarterbacks of 2020, his name oddly has not been in the conversation this year. It has been Mahomes, Brady, Rodgers, Wilson, Tannehill, even Justin Herbert and Kyler Murray have been getting a mention.

"Lamar Jackson has the chance this weekend to shut everyone up, to silence everyone and reassert himself in that conversation.

"They have not played teams of the Steelers' calibre in their wins, and Lamar has not put on the dazzling highlight reel.

"It's one of these games where the bright lights are on; we saw him lose to the Chargers in a playoff game, to the Titans in a playoff game, and to the Chiefs the last three times he's played them.

"He has never faced Big Ben [Roethlisberger], and there's a lot of heat now surrounding the Steelers - undefeated - and so if Lamar can step up, and show that I'm still an MVP candidate, I'm still that guy, it will go a long way.

"I think Lamar needs to show us something; if you lay an egg here, you've now had the Chiefs in prime time and this one with a big audience, it would suddenly be, 'can Lamar beat good teams?'

"It is indisputable that last year, when he stepped onto a football field, he dominated every single game. We haven't seen him do that yet this year - I want to see him dunk on the Steelers.

"Lamar is a great quarterback, but is he the best player in the NFL? That is what he was last year, so if he's the best in the NFL, I think he needs to show everyone around the league that he can win a game of this magnitude.

"I want to see him come out against the best defence in the NFL and will this team to a victory."

Dalvin Cook has monster day for Minnesota Vikings and Joe Burrow inspires Cincinnati Bengals to upset win

Brian Flores outcoached Sean McVay once again, a Lamar Jackson interception proved costly, Joe Burrow continued his remarkable ascent and Dalvin Cook erupted against the Green Bay Packers; here's a look at what we learned in Week Eight...

Los Angeles Rams 17-28 Miami Dolphins

Are the Dolphins the best team in the AFC East? I think they might be (*ducks for cover*). On current form, they certainly are. We're learning more about this Miami outfit every week, one of those things being just how talented a head coach Brian Flores is. Having foiled Sean McVay and Jared Goff while calling the defensive plays for the New England Patriots at Super Bowl LIII, Flores used that as a blueprint on Sunday to frustrate the Rams quarterback, who threw the ball 61 times.

A blitz-heavy approach ultimately tested Goff and the Rams to go and beat him, to which they had no answer. All eyes had been on Tua Tagovailoa at the start of the day ahead of his first NFL start. By the end of it the attention was on a Dolphins defense that forced four first-half turnovers. Andrew Van Ginkel recovered the fumble from Emmanuel Ogbah's strip sack for a 78-yard touchdown return, Shaq Lawson's strip sack teed up Myles Gaskins' one-yard rushing score and Christian Wilkins and Eric Rowe both came up with interceptions. This is a good team. Cameron Hogwood

Up Next - Rams BYE WEE; Dolphins @ Cardinals (Sunday, 9.25pm)

New England Patriots 21-24 Buffalo Bills
For a very short period earlier this season, it looked like Cam Newton was going to be an effortless replacement for Tom Brady and the Patriots would continue to be the Patriots, but on Sunday Newton underlined that he may soon be a problem for New England.

Having stayed competitive throughout against the Bills, they were trailing by three with just over four minutes in hand, starting on their own 21-yard. Ideal Brady territory to win the game. 11 plays later they are within field goal range to level the game, back in the redzone with a chance to win it.

Newton tried to make the gain on the ground himself, but instead saw the ball punched out of his grasp as the Bills recovered to win the game. The Patriots have now lost four successive games during a season for the first time since 2002, sit behind Buffalo and Miami in the AFC East and may mischievously be starting to think about what QB prospect they most desire in the Draft. Paul Prenderville

Up Next - Patriots @ Jets (Tuesday, 1.15am), Bills v Seahawks (Sunday, 6pm)

Los Angeles Chargers 30-31 Denver Broncos

It may have taken three-and-a-half quarters but when the Denver Broncos offense finally woke up they did so in a big way. Phillip Lindsay sprang loose for a 55-yard touchdown run with six minutes left in the third quarter and that became the spark that ignited the offense.

It's been a tough season for quarterback Drew Lock, who suffered a rotator cuff injury just two games into the season and struggled against the Kansas City Chiefs last week in his second game back. But his play late on - including leading the Broncos on a 14-play, 81-yard drive for the game-winning touchdown as time expired - is exactly what Vic Fangio and John Elway were hoping they would get when they drafted him last year.

The Chargers meanwhile have major concerns on defense as they blew a 16-point+ lead for a record fourth straight game. Learn to see out games and this team has the personnel to reach the playoffs. Sonny Cohen

Those trade rumors were bogus, especially in the middle of the season you don't trade someone who's getting paid that type of money because that leaves your team with wayy to much dead money. In this case it would have left the Saints with about 20mil in dead cap and they are already 100mil over the cap space for next year.

Sometimes you just gotta do a little logical thinking with these trade rumors, and it becomes very obvious, that most of them are just that rumors to stir up something to talk about on all those football talk shows on ESPN/FOX/NBC etc.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers 3-38 New Orleans Saints: Tom Brady suffers heaviest defeat

Tom Brady suffered the worst loss of his career as the Tampa Bay Buccaneers lost 38-3 to the New Orleans Saints.

Brady, 43, a six-time Super Bowl winner at the New England Patriots, also saw rival quarterback Drew Brees overtake his record of most touchdown passes.

The Buccaneers move to a 6-3 record, while the 6-2 Saints top the NFC South.

"Tonight was a great night, special, exceptional. We've been playing each other for 22 years now so there is a lot of respect there," said Brees.

"He [Brady] had all his weapons on field too. So I thought it would be one of those games."

Brees, who won the Super Bowl with the Saints in 2009, threw touchdown passes to four different receivers - Tre'Quan Smith, Adam Trautman, Emmanuel Sanders and Josh Hill - with Alvin Kamara also scoring for the Saints.

Three of those touchdowns came before Brady even registered a first down. He threw three interceptions, completed 22 of 38 passes and Tampa Bay rushed the ball just five times, the lowest total in league history.

In comparison, Brees completed 26 of 32 passes for 222 yards and 12 different receivers caught passes on the night.

Brees, 41, now has 564 career touchdown passes while Brady sits at 561.

"We can't waste a win. We wanted to spread the ball around," said Brees. "The offence was able to possess the ball, run the ball well, and throw the ball well."

Looking forward to Tom Brady bouncing back after an embarrassing performance last Sunday night.

Hoping my Pats can somehow find a way to beat the Ravens, but with the Ravens defense, our weak offense, the Ravens excellent run game, and us sporting one of the worst fronts 7s ever it's going to be very hard, not a good match up for us, just as the 9ers weren't.

Warren Moon: NFL diversity incentives 'a step forward', says Hall of Fame quarterback

Hall of Fame quarterback Warren Moon has described planned changes to the NFL's Rooney Rule as "a step in the right direction", adding that "there hasn't been enough progress" since the rule was first introduced in 2003.

The Rooney Rule requires NFL teams to interview ethnic-minority candidates for head coaching and senior football operation jobs. But, in 2020, the NFL has only three full-time African-American head coaches, the same number as in 2003 when the rule was adopted.

NFL owners met last week and approved a proposal which incentivises the development of minority coaches and executives, which will see teams rewarded with a third-round compensatory draft pick in back-to-back drafts if another team hires a member of their staff to a higher role - subject to approval from the NFL Players Association.

Former Houston Oilers quarterback Moon, himself a trailblazer in the NFL as the first African-American QB to be inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2006, believes the NFL's new proposal needs to be just the start of a wider review into the Rooney Rule system.

"They understand the Rooney Rule hasn't worked the way it was supposed to," Moon told Sky Sports. "Something has to change because there hasn't been enough progress.

"I think there was up to eight African American coaches at one time maybe back in 2007.

"I see what the NFL is trying to do, they're trying to incentivise these teams to give them opportunities to get draft picks so they will hire more African-American head coaches and I understand that part of it, but I think the whole system has to change somehow.

"I think one way of doing it is we have to get more minorities in leadership and ownership positions, because when you're an owner now you can pretty much make the choices you want to make and can hire the people you want to hire.

"If we can get more African Americans in ownership and then we can start to make some of the decisions about general managers, about presidents and head coaches, I think those numbers will rise.

"I like what the NFL is trying to do, incentivising teams to create more opportunities for African-Americans because we should have more opportunities."

I doubt a regressing injury-prone QB along with an aging DT with an expensive contracted would convince a team to pass over a franchise quarterback.

Lamar Jackson and Baltimore Ravens offence must evolve says Vince Young

Former NFL quarterback Vince Young, speaking on the latest episode of Inside The Huddle, says it's time for Lamar Jackson and the Baltimore Ravens offence to evolve.

Jackson was named the 2019 league MVP after throwing a league-leading 36 touchdown passes, while also rushing for over 1,000 yards and seven scores. But defences seem to have caught up to the Ravens, with Jackson recently saying opposing teams are even calling out their plays.

The Ravens (6-3) have already lost more games than they did the whole of last season, while they own the league's 22nd-ranked offence and 31st-best passing attack.

Young, a dual-threat quarterback much in the same mould of Jackson during his time in the NFL, feels the blame shouldn't be laid solely at his door, but that the third-year QB needs to take more on his plate as they look to open up the passing game.

"I don't think it's all on Lamar," Young said on the latest episode of Inside The Huddle, which you can listen to as a podcast in the player above.

"He could do a better job, but overall he's still passing the ball pretty good - especially last week [in defeat to the New England Patriots], with the type of weather they played in, he made some good throws.

"It's time for them to put more on his plate, and for him to ask for more on his plate because he wants to show his maturity that he is an elite quarterback and is the MVP QB.

"And they have Dez Bryant. I don't see what is wrong with bringing him up and letting him play. Right now, [Marquise] 'Hollywood' Brown is not making the plays that he used to.

Chicago and Dallas are nothing, try Philly, its like Sachin Tendulkar for India. If Tendulkar does not play well, most of India loses motivation to do anything, same thing for Eagles in Philly.

Actually I was around Philly in teen years (later NYC) but the team i followed were the Steelers. However to be honest over the last few years Ive kinda stopped following NFL. Like I still know what’s going on generally but the passion isn’t there. Do you still follow the eagles passionately? I know a guy who ‘retired’ from following NFL once the eagles finally won the Super bowl since he claims his life as a fan is complete now

A Steelers fan huh, since I am a Pensylvania guy also, I have a soft spot for the Steelers from time to time. There used to be a time I pretended to not like the Steelers purely because of jealousy due to all your trophies ..

My passion for the Eagles have gone down quite a bit, I was bleeding green die hard from 87-2004. Thing have calmed down for me. It's interesting because I asked myself the same question: what would happen to the way I feel about the Eagles if they win the superbowl and the answer is I still good them but not as passionately. Probably because the Dallas and Giants rivalry with the Eagles have died down and NFC East is no longer the great division it once was.

We had in a few run ins in the past but I do consider you a top poster and since you are sort of a Pennsylvania guy also I got a soft spot.

Denver Broncos: Practice squad receiver Kendall Hinton plays quarterback in defeat by New Orleans Saints

The Denver Broncos lost 31-3 to the New Orleans Saints as practice squad receiver Kendall Hinton was called up to fill in at quarterback.

All four of the Broncos' quarterbacks were absent after Jeff Driskel tested positive for Covid-19 on Thursday.

Team-mates Drew Lock, Brett Rypien and Blake Bortles are now in isolation after all being deemed "high-risk" close contacts.

Hinton, 23, previously played quarterback in college.

An undrafted player who has been on the team's practice squad since last month, he made his NFL debut on less than a day's notice and made 1-for-9 in passing for 13 yards as well as two interceptions.

"I can easily say this has been the most eventful 24 hours of my life," said Hinton. "But when I got the call it was pure excitement, of course there was nerves and disbelief."

He added that he had only had time to learn 20-30 plays before the game.

"Coming in I knew that I had no idea what the state of the game was like. I am familiar with our concepts but it's a lot different from quarterback," he said.

"We knew it would be a tough situation but it was a challenge I was willing to take."

Meanwhile, Covid-19 restrictions are forcing the San Francisco 49ers to temporarily relocate.

Santa Clara County, where the 49ers' stadium and training facilities are based, has issued a declaration to help curb the spread of coronavirus which includes a three-week ban on "all recreational activities that involve physical contact".

The 49ers said they were "working with the NFL and our partners on operational plans" to address the ban.

Kansas City Chiefs offence is 'like a cheat code', says Jay Ajayi

Former Super Bowl-winning running back with the Philadelphia Eagles, Jay Ajayi, believes the Kansas City Chiefs could be set to win back-to-back titles, describing their offence as "ridiculous" and "like a cheat code".

Kansas City are 9-1 on the season, with their quarterback Patrick Mahomes throwing for 462 yards and three touchdowns in their latest win over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Sunday - 359 of those yards coming in a staggering first-half display.

Ajayi, joining NFL Overtime (Tuesdays, 9pm, Sky Sports NFL), added that Mahomes is playing "like he's from outer space".

"Kansas City, what they're doing is ridiculous," said Mahomes. "They're like a cheat code with how they're playing.

"They won the Super Bowl last year and it doesn't seem like there has been any drop off.

"Mahomes is playing like he's from outer space. It's crazy; the Chiefs, they have it and you can just tell they know what needs to be done week in, week out.

"They've been flying under the radar, but they're 9-1 and so they're the frontrunner almost. They've just got to keep it up.

"The defence is definitely something the Chiefs need to worry about - focus on fixing the minor details. They're still getting turnovers and takeaways but they've got to stop the points that are being put up on the board.

"If they just clean up that stuff, I think there might be another Super Bowl coming back to Kansas City."

Not sure if Jalen Hurts is the answer. QBs in the 2nd round and later are historically bad. I can't give Howie the benefit of the doubt when judging talent. It boils my blood to see Justin Jefferson breaking all these records when every fan was screaming at the TV to take him on draft night.

Yes you are right, we do not know if Hurts is the answer, but I am more confident Carson is not. Jefferson is turning into a bigger heart break than not getting Metcalf, however we can fix all that by losing out and drafting Chase.

Pittsburgh Steelers 'concerning' after back-to-back defeats, says Jeff Reinebold

Jeff Reinebold says there are "concerns in Pittsburgh" after the Steelers suffered back-to-back defeats following an unbeaten 11-0 start to the season.

Following Pittsburgh's 26-15 defeat to the Buffalo Bills that knocked them out of the No 1 seed in the AFC, Reinebold said that the team's lack of run game and their schedule for the final three weeks of the season are worrying.

The Steelers own the league's second-worst rushing attack, averaging just 89.1 yards per game, while they end the season on the road to division opponents Cincinnati Bengals (2-10-1) and Cleveland Browns (9-4) either side of a home game against the Indianapolis Colts (9-4).

"The thing that would be concerning to me, if I was a Steelers fan - look at their schedule going forward. This team has a chance of losing four of their last five games," Reinebold told NFL Overtime (Tuesdays, 9pm)

"They are going to be a playoff team, but they have a tough schedule down the stretch.

"[Running back] James Conner came back on Sunday, Maurkice Pouncey was back again playing center and yet they still didn't run the ball as well as they will need to in the playoffs.

"There are concerns in Pittsburgh. That defence too, it's starting to get beat up a little bit."

Washington quarterback Dwayne Haskins fined for Covid-19 breach

Washington quarterback Dwayne Haskins has been fined $40,000 (£29,400) and removed as a captain after being filmed at a party without wearing a mask.

The fine is thought to be the largest in the NFL for breaking Covid-19 protocols and more than half of 23-year-old Haskins' weekly salary.

Haskins said Sunday's party - after his team lost to Seattle Seahawks - was for his girlfriend's birthday.

"My actions were immature and unacceptable," he said.

"I put my team-mates, coaches and staff members at risk and let the fans and the organisation down. I take full responsibility and accountability for that.

"Being a quarterback in this league comes with a big responsibility and leadership, and I failed to live up to those standards with my actions.

"I fully understand the mistakes that I've made and the circumstances that come with it, and I'm OK with that because I deserved it."

Haskins is still allowed to take part in practice for Washington, who are preparing to play the Carolina Panthers on Sunday.

But to be allowed to participate, he must have two coronavirus tests every day and wear a mask under his helmet that includes a face shield.

Washington head coach Ron Rivera confirmed Haskins will start this weekend's match if fellow quarterback Alex Smith is not fit to play.

Last Sunday saw Haskins make his first start since early October because of Smith's calf injury. Haskins completed 38 of 55 passes - for 295 yards with one touchdown and two interceptions - in the 20-15 home defeat by Seattle.

Tom Brady inspires Tampa Bay Buccaneers into play-offs for first time since 2007

Quarterback Tom Brady helped the Tampa Bay Buccaneers secure a first NFL play-off spot since 2007 by throwing four first-half touchdown passes in a win over the Detroit Lions.

The 43-year-old, who sat out the second half, threw for 348 yards and completed 22 of 27 passes as his side won 47-7.

It was Brady's 300th regular-season NFL appearance and came in Detroit, where he made his NFL debut.

"Guys were making plays for me all over the field," he said.

"When we do play the way we're capable of playing, we're tough to beat. We have to learn to do it more consistently."

Brady is in his first season with the Buccaneers after leaving the New England Patriots, for whom he won a record six Super Bowls.

Already certain of a place in the play-offs are defending Super Bowl champions the Kansas City Chiefs, plus the Green Bay Packers, the New Orleans Saints, the Seattle Seahawks, the Pittsburgh Steelers and the Buffalo Bills.

Elsewhere, the Miami Dolphins boosted their own play-off hopes with a dramatic 26-25 victory at the Las Vegas Raiders.

Jason Sanders kicked a 44-yard field goal with one second remaining to win the game for the Dolphins, who will secure a play-off spot if they beat the Bills in their final regular-season fixture on 3 January.

Sanders' kick came just 18 seconds after the Raiders had seemingly won the game with a field goal by Daniel Carlson.

However, on first and 10 on his own 25, Ryan Fitzpatrick found a wide-open Mack Hollins for a 34-yard reception with Raiders defensive end Arden Key being penalised an additional 15 yards for grabbing Fitzpatrick's facemask.

Meanwhile, the Arizona Cardinals' 20-12 loss to the San Francisco 49ers means the Chicago Bears can pip them to a play-off spot if they win their final two regular season games.

The Bears travel to the Jacksonville Jaguars on Sunday before hosting the Packers next week.

The Cleveland Browns have secured a play-off spot for the first time since 2002 with a 24-22 win over the Pittsburgh Steelers on the final day of the regular season.

Nick Chubb and Jarvis Landry each ran for a touchdown and Baker Mayfield threw for another.

It ended the NFL's longest active post-season drought.

The Green Bay Packers clinched the top seed in the NFC Conference while the Tennessee Titans won the AFC South.

The Baltimore Ravens, the Indianapolis Colts, the Los Angeles Rams and the Chicago Bears also qualified for the play-offs, which start on Saturday.

Washington took the final play-off spot with a 20-14 victory over the Philadelphia Eagles to win the NFC East division despite a 7-9 record.

They are just the third NFL team to reach the play-offs with a losing record (excluding the strike-shortened 1982 season). The Carolina Panthers were the last to do so in 2014, following the Seattle Seahawks in 2010 - both went on to win their play-off openers.

The Bears lost 35-16 to Green Bay to finish 8-8 but still qualified for the wildcard round because of the Arizona Cardinals' 18-7 defeat by the Rams.

New York Jets, Jacksonville Jaguars & Los Angeles Chargers sack head coaches

Three NFL head coaches - including the New York Jets' Adam Gase - have lost their jobs as teams look to rebuild at the end of the regular season.

The Jacksonville Jaguars dismissed Doug Marrone - who led them to 2017's AFC Championship game - while the Los Angeles Chargers fired Anthony Lynn.

Gase was sacked after a 2-14 season which started with 13 straight defeats.

Marrone oversaw one win in 16 games, the worst record in 2020, and Lynn went after another losing campaign.

It is 'Black Monday' in the NFL, the day when teams who missed out on the post-season tend to change head coaches and general managers as they rebuild for the 2021 season.

On Gase's dismissal, Jets chief executive Christopher Johnson said: "While my sincere intentions are to have stability in our organisation - especially in our leadership positions - it is clear the best decision for the Jets is to move in a different direction."

Whoever is appointed by the Jaguars would be taking charge of the team with the first overall pick in the 2021 NFL draft.

Jaguars owner Shahid Khan, who is also searching for a new general manager, said: "I'll always appreciate Doug's passion, grit and class, and I'm confident he will enjoy success in the next chapter of his career.

"The quest begins to find a head coach who shares my ambition for the Jacksonville Jaguars and our fans, whose loyalty and faith are overdue to be rewarded."

Lynn's exit came after 5-11 and 7-9 records in 2019 and 2020, and Chargers owner Dean Spanos said: "This is a results-driven business and, simply put, the results of the past two years have fallen short of expectations."

Meanwhile, John Elway has stepped down as Denver Broncos general manager after a decade in the role but will remain as president of football operations.

Former quarterback Elway led the Broncos to back-to-back Super Bowl titles in 1998 and 1999 and oversaw the team that won the 2016 title.

The Broncos missed the playoffs this season after finishing with a 5-11 record, though Vic Fangio was retained as head coach.

"I have made the decision to step up into an elevated role and hire a general manager to lead our personnel and football staff," said Elway.

"I will be there to support our GM and Vic, providing my perspective, helping with the big decisions and being a sounding board whenever needed."

Tom Brady and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers held off a spirited display by Washington quarterback Taylor Heinicke to advance to the Divisional Round of the NFL play-offs with a 31-23 victory.

Brady joined the Bucs this season after ending his long association with the New England Patriots, which delivered him a record six Super Bowl rings, and has responded by leading Tampa Bay to the franchise's first play-off win since winning the Super Bowl in the 2002 season.

The 43-year-old Brady, who threw for 381 yards and two touchdowns, was made to sweat before securing victory in this NFC wildcard contest, as Heinicke - starting ahead of the injured Alex Smith - kept the Bucs honest by throwing for 306 yards with a touchdown as well as diving for a superb score after a scampering run.

That reduced the Bucs' lead to two points late in the third quarter, but Leonard Fournette's touchdown run and Ryan Succop's field goal gave Tampa Bay a 12-point cushion.

There was still time for a late Washington rally as Heinicke produced a superb march downfield before finding Steven Sims in the endzone, but Tampa Bay held on, kicking another field goal to add late gloss.

It was nevertheless fairytale stuff for 27-year-old Heinicke, who was finishing a degree in engineering when he was signed by Washington to their practice squad on 8 December, and only made the active roster on 19 December.

But it it was not enough to deny Brady a 31st career play-off triumph and a meeting with either the Los Angeles Rams or the New Orleans Saints in the next round.

The game was the final part of a triple-header of wildcard contests on Saturday, which also brought wins for the Rams and the Buffalo Bills.

"If you could win 100-0, it's going to be the same result in the end," Brady said. "It's good to win and advance."
