A class player scores everywhere buddy. What about Tendulkar, Kallis,Dravid,Ganguly,Hussey? Don't they show their class everytime they come out to bat ?

So far i have only heard good things about Pujara. Everytime i have seen him batting i haven't felt anything special about him. I see a guy like Rayudu who's not hyped like Pujara showing every single time that he is a very smart and a solid batsman who can be thrown into international arena anytime.

He has played 3 test matches already, which in these days is max opportunity a batsmen gets in India as the batting is packed with stars. Even Murali Vijay who is a complete failure in ODIs has made better of his opportunities in tests.
Pujara 107 runs in 5 outings in tests, averaging 22

That's the reason why i am disappointed so far.

I really wish i am proved wrong about him, that he scores two double hundreds next 2 tests he gets to play for us and all you guys bash me here. I really wish it happens , it only helps India which matters to me

But we all know in present situation, these guys are only gonna get limited opportunities to prove their worth, and that happens when an established player is rested or gets injured. There is just no vacancy. Time's running out for him, he has got to make it count soon.
3 tests, 5 innings is already decent opportunity for a young batsman in India.

Vijay has made it count in tests, Pujara has got to do the same before some other more properly baked dude like Kohli takes the spot

Do not look too much into his FC stats, apart from that tbh to ourselves he hasn't done much in IPL and for India. And do not even think we don't have other batsmen with similar FC stats.
Heard about Ajinkya Rahane? 23 years of age averaging 67 in FC cricket.

And in these 5 innings, he already has a magnificent 72* in a tough 4th innings chase against the Aussies!

As for his 2 tests in SA, his only real failure was at Durban where no player other than VVS passed a 50. Even there he fought well against hostile spells from Steyn and Morkel even though he did not score too many runs. At Capetown, he got a dream ball from Steyn and was trapped LBW.

Based on that 72* alone, he deserves another few chances. The lad has scored runs everywhere. A couple of failures against the best bowling unit playing on some of the best bowling friendly tracks, judging him and writing him off on the basis of that will be premature and unjust IMO.

If he is persisted with then he is only going to play top test sides this year too. So if he comes out from 8 tests against England, Australia with average of 25 you will still say all that? Got a dream delivery from Anderson in 2nd test, one bad lbw decision, an unplayable Brett Lee yorker but a good 70 odd while chasing 200 runs ?
So we the world champion team are ok with people cashing in on teams on flat tracks while our greatest young batting talent fails against the best of the challenges?
Bro this is all he is going to get at international level. Dale Steyn was hot but every team is havinga similar bowler. Lankans are having Mallinga, Aussies have Lee, Johnson, Pakistan has Gul, Wahab and 10 more, WI have a Roach, NZ will soon have a devastating quickie heard about him.
So where will our greatest young batting talent survive apart from mother India's flat beds?

He should be made to realize that he has got to do much better. The reasons given are not ok to tell Kohli to wait for a few more tests

If i get a supple in Medicinal chemistry and Pharmacology this semester, i will tell dad the subjects were very difficult but hey i got 80 % in Biopharma and Jurisprudence

Thankfully international cricket doesn't work like that

A player who is deemed to have potential and has done well in the chances he gets, get to play at least 2-3 series before he gets discarded.

And yes, if you top your class in one dificult subject whereas score average marks in similar 2-3 tough sujects, then you will get your chances in the future too. I would assume thats how it works

Vijay has made it count in tests
No he hasn't. He is simply a FTB who hasn't much of a technique to talk about. Has been found out many times on good surfaces against good bowlers.

Good only in India. Not a good replacement by any stretch for any of our regular batsmen.

I said that Vijay has made it count, you cant deny that. Although the runs have come on flat tracks but he has scored them.
    He averages 38 compared to Pujara's 22 !

Pujara just has to score his runs no matter where and against whom he plays. No excuses for that plz CricketIndiaFan

He scored his runs in the first few chances he got.
For Pujara to earn more chances he simply has to score runs, there is just no substitute for that. Or you will give him 9 tests just for his FC average??

Ajinkya Rahane averages even better. 67 point something, then why not put him ahead of Pujara and give him a shot

Murali Vijay although being an absolute failure in ODIs to his credit has outperformed Pujara in tests as well as IPL so far. At least he is ^^cashing in^^ at thing he is good i.e being an FTB

I really want Pujara and Manoj Tiwari to do a lot better. They are not making use of any opportunity being given to them at any level. I have known about them since 3-4 years now and so far haven't seen them doing much :l
All talks no substance, or am i wrong? Time will tell. I hope i am wrong

But Vijay has been found out extremely badly on pitches that do something. Not that Pujara scored many on the same pitches, still he showed some promise at least. And that comes from technqiue something which Vijay thoroughly lacks.

Did you see the last year's T20 WC? How badly Vijay was found out against short ball or recent SA tour?

As for Rahane, he is still very new to int'l circuit. His time will surely come. Pujara has done his time for many seasons now. Now is the time to give him a consistent run in Indian test side.

I am ready for competitive cricket - Pujara

Cheteshwar Pujara, the 23-year-old batsman who underwent knee injury in July, has said he has sufficiently recovered to return to competitive cricket. He is targeting a return to international cricket on India's tour of Australia in December this year.

"I'm quite fit now, I've been practising regularly," Pujara told Rediff.com. "I run well and I've no difficulty whatsoever with any of my body movements. I may not play the first couple of Ranji Trophy games [the tournament begins on November 3], but I'm ready for competitive cricket now.

"I'm keen, even determined, to get back on track again. I know I've to prove my fitness and then to score runs, as in the past. But I see no problem doing both once I start playing cricket. I'm sure of regaining my place in Team India and confident of making it to the Australia tour."

Pujara injured his knee in May while fielding for Royal Challengers Bangalore during the 2011 IPL and had been out of cricket since. During his rehabilitation period after surgery, he had trained under physio Nitin Patel at the National Cricket Academy in Bangalore. The surgery stalled his bid to secure a spot in India's Test XI. He had delivered on Test debut against Australia in Bangalore last October, hitting 72 to help India chase down 207 and seal the series 2-0. In the process, he became only the fifth Indian to score a half-century or more in the fourth innings on debut.

Pujara is known for his solid, classical technique, and the praise he received as a result had been a motivator, he said. "I feel encouraged when truly great cricketers like Gundappa Viswanath appreciate my technique and performance. This is a big motivation for me. I'm determined to make a comeback."

    Fantastic innings by Cheteshwar Pujara!

From 115-8 , he took India A to the target of 188. There were constant breaks due to rain. but he maintained his concentration and made 96*. Shami Ahmed also contributed well. He should be the no.3 as Dravid has retired.

Congrats to a great young talent, really rate this guy I think he can score runs everywhere.

Also first time I have seen one of the Indian youngstas stand up on their own, without a great at the other end.

Shake a tree in India....Class Batsmen will fall like leaves

Pujara has everything to become a great Test Player. He is not as talented as Kohli. But he has enough concentration and defense to replace Greats like Dravid and Laxi.

If Pujara becomes consistent, then Indian batting lineup for the future with Gambhir/Kohli/Pujara is looking great. If someone like Rohit Sharma or Rahane or Tiwary also find some consistency, then watch out!!!

    So happy!

Revolution begins! Before I went to bed, he was rock solid, there were no edges, knew he was in for long haul. Can't wait for the highlights.

18 months away from cricket after being so hyped up, and then hitting a 100 like that straight away, when other batsmen are falling after good start, shows how much temperament this guy has! And very good temperament makes you very stubborn and strong cricketer. ravid :Che

Good knock. His partnership with Kohli bailed us out of what could've been a big trouble. Will judge his ability at the end of this season.

It's not that easier than it sounds really. We still don't have proper replacement for Ganguli yet. It's still music chair. Many batsmen have been tried and failed many got injured.

It's kind of stereotype that we always produced good batsmen but we forget that only few carries on, means they still work as hard as any other side.

Pujara has very good domestic cricket record. Can't believe he scored a triple century when he was 14 years old. He is a very hard working batsman who earned his place by just batting a long period of time in domestic matches. The basement for the next wall is under construction. I expect a lot more from this lad..

ever heard the words "padmakar shivalkar" google him up ...Badri has done well domestically but age is not on his side ..his bad luck. Talking about avgs I am sure rahane avgs more than badri in domestic so it is not like we are giving chance to a poor player.

Badri had his decent go when ganguly retired and blew it. Sure he is still good but at 32 is not the future. This is the national team and not some retirement benefit plan where you get plum posting for yeoman years of service
