Afridi should open and get maximum overs

Afridi is a key player and can demolish any side in 5-6 overs. He needs to bat first today.

The greater chance is of him lasting 3 balls and playing a brainless shot and getting out. When will people realise that Afridi is over-hyped? This format of the game suits him. But even in this format, he is a liability as an opener. He will succeed 2 times out of ten and everyone goes crazy. The other 8 times, he will play a stupid short innings. Afridi is exciting and a imprtant player for Pakistan because of the damage he can lower down the order AND because his bowling is effective in the one day format. Lets play to his strenths. Send him in with 3 or 4 overs to go.

I agree. Afridi is not consistent enough as a pinch hitter to rely upon him in a such a major final. If he had more skill as a batsman then I would send him in at 1 as there would be less risk of him top edging one straight in the air etc, but that isn't the case.

Mr. Glass half full think otherway around, he is a top contender for Player of the Tournament, which prove that he is not over hyped. He is best bowler of the side and don't need to mention his fielding, so his explosive batting (if it is his day) is BONUS for Pakistan.

As long as he is in dressing room, opposition captain will be saving his best bowler for him, be it Bond, be it Malinga or be it Lee, so it allow gutless Butts and co more opportunity to face comparatively easy bowlers.

no no no ,let afridi bat at down the order and he might be able to cause some damage,up the order and theres a chance of him out cheaply and cause not needed pressure on the middle order.

Why would you want to change the opening pair who just gave you such a good start against a formidable team like NZ. facing the likes of Bond, Vettori and Gillespie ?? Nazir, I am not sure of ! but Hafeez comes across as a very good limited overs batsman ... He should be persisted with in most of the games ... If he can work a bit more on shot selection and improve his straight batted shots, he will be a very good batsman ...

bring Afridi at 5 just like in the Semi Final

that according to me is his best slot

Nazir & Hafeez giving us a good start of 35-40 in 5 overs...then Younis & Malik staying at the wicket till 12th over taking Pakistan's score to 80-90 & then unleashing Afridi,Misbah,Fawad,Kamran for the last 8 overs n getting another 90 runs!..this would be an ideal plan if we bat first

120% agree. Afridi does NOT need to open against RP Singh and Sreesanth........He should be able to clobber Irfan, Sharma and Harbhjan.

Come on!! No need to experiment NOW!!! Afridi himself dont like to open so why stress him? Send him where he really can make the difference, that is down the order/the last 5-6 overs.

Destroyer:

One who can anhilate a bowler from left right and centre both psychologically and with sheer brutality via his strokeplay, boundaryhitting and general prescence on the pitch. Ultiamtely one who is able to tilt the cause of a match with strokeplay and effective strokeplay at that which completely changes the face of the match/situation in his and his team's favour.

Khush?

So to be realistic about a player is glass half full?? lol.

Please read what I have said. I have said that he is an exciting and IMPORTANT player for Pakistan. Why? Because in the one day format he is a VERY effective bowler. He is also a VERY effective hitter in the one day format as proven many times. BUT he is extremely inconsistent, unreliable and very foolish. He is not a natural opener and I simply stated that he fails far more then he succeeds.

Shahid is a beast. As with other aspects in a beast's life, he will do as he pleases. It might be a decision that he has deliberated, it might be an impulsive whim, he might have taken on board the opinions of management, he might not have listened to management, he might actively want to take the opposite decision of management due to puerile rebellion. Such are the ways of the simple, miserably violent, beast.

It's easy in retrospect, but he should have opened, got 39 in his last match, and sending Afridi late when setting a score is ok, but when chasing a score it's usually an accident waiting to happen.
