Altaf on revenge course, steps up efforts to expose PCB

Altaf on revenge course, steps up efforts to expose PCB
15 Jun, 2008 1805hrs IST, PTI

KARACHI: Former Test pacer Saleem Altaf, who was sacked by the Pakistan cricket Board on charges of leaking sensitive information, has started meeting with influential politicians of the country to force a change in the present cricket set-up in Pakistan.

Sources believe Altaf, who has held many high profile posts in the Board like chief selector, Team manager and Director of Cricket Operations, could cause problems for the present Board set-up.

"Altaf on Saturday met with Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif, the brother of Nawaz Sharif and briefed him about his sacking and the happenings in the Board," a source close to Altaf said.

"Altaf told Shahbaz about the illegal appointments being made in the Board and other unethical acts and asked for a complete inquiry to be held in Board affairs," the source added.

Altaf was sacked last week after a heated exchange of words with PCB Chairman Nasim Ashraf, who accused him of working against the Board.

Altaf had claimed that his telephone was being taped secretly and he was told to leave the office immediately.

"He has strong links and he is already in touch with his brother Naeem Bokhari, a prominent barrister to file a case against the Board over the sacking," one source said.

Altaf is also contemplating a meeting with President Pervez Musharraf, who is the chief patron of the Board and had appointed him as Director cricket operations.

Sources say, some members of the governing body are also not happy with the manner in which the sacking took place and have demanded an explanation from Ashraf.

comments: These people like Salim Altaf are such @@@@@@@. He kept his mouth shut and enjoyed all the perks and luxuries while serving under the PCB and DNA, as soon as DNA and he develop a tiff its time for exposing. Just goes to show the self centered nature of people in Pakistan. I wonder what he is going to expose now. Bet Enver Beg will be licking his lips now.

I think he should do an interview on GEO or ARY with PJ Mir or atleast a press conference. We all want to know and that is the proper way of communication

Is Salim Altaf retarded? Even if he was to take this course of action despite the fact he was the same hypocrtical @@@@ who was guilty of these acts during Sharhyar's and DNA tenure, why is he talking to the President Mushy? Does he not realize how close DNA is to the president?

PCB will always be unprofessional no matter who runs it. He is literally trying to get DNA dismissed for the same things he was guilty off as the director of cricket operations during Shahryars and DNA early tenure. If there was something wrong in the board, he should had the moral forthrightness to come out and expose the PCB while he was an employee there not when he had been hard done by. what goes around comes around? Anyways if he is hell bent on this course of action, logical and common sense would dictate you go to influential oppositions figures like Zardari, Nawaz Sharif, Shahbaz Sharif, Enver Beg, Gillani, not Mushy.

Well he was chief selector, he has also been a manager. During Shahryar's time he was the director of cricket operations an important position, he had the same role during DNA's early rule. Then got demoted to beeing the director of the WC 2011 committee.

dna and ALTAF need to be exiled... as well as the 'dodgy' appointments

Some ones got to get PCB out from a dictatorship and into an accountable organisation run by CRICKET professionals +managers,

Saleem Altaf....what a "nasoor" for Pakistan cricket.....ever since I saw that program with him, Fakhr-e-Alam and Waqar Younis, I have been wishing for his exit from Pak cricket....but the guy had a lot of "resources" and survived many coups in PCB....I think DNA and him never got along and now I can tell where all those masala stories about the inner workings and infighting in PCB were coming from, he was the "anonymous PCB source". The guy got what he deserved, for being arrogant and treating PCB as his family business. These typical bureaucrats have no interest of Pakistan cricket in hand, as long as they can enjoy the position and perks of a govt. job they play along and as soon as they are shown the door they come out. Hell with him. I hope DNA has collected enough evidence about his secretive leaking to the press that even if his case ever goes to court it will end up exposing him. But this is a typical trend in Pakistan now. Ex-servicemen or Armymen group comprises of the same mentality. Get all the perks and luxuries of the job while working under someone you don't like or do not agree with and as soon as you are shown the door start bitching about them and exposing them rightly or wrongly to the media. These people have no ethics or morals. I doubt if Naeem Bokhari, brother of this moron, will ever side with him against DNA, as he is very close to Mushy and has been a vocal supporter of him during this whole CJP thing. Shahbaz Sharif on the other hand is against anything and everything linked with Mushy so he will have no problems promoting Altaf's cause. I doubt it will make any difference as Shahbaz have no influence over PCB and its not even PML-N's govt. Senator Baig being PPP might make a big deal out of this as he hates DNA's guts. But lets see. I hope this Altaf moron never gets to come back in PCB. Good riddance.

If he was aware of "unethical acts" whilst he was part of the PCB, why did he not resign when he became aware of them?
