A New Domestic Structure
Two leagues with 6 teams each. Each team plays the other once, both home and away, resulting in 10 games for each team. 3 points for a win and 1 for a draw. Relagation for the bottom team in League 1 and promotion for the top team in League 2. This structure can exist for 4-day games as well as ODI's. This would be my initial allocation of the leagues:
League 1: 1) Karachi 2) Lahore 3) Peshawar 4) Sialkot 5) Faisalabad 6) Multan League 2: 1) Rawalpindi 2) Islamabad 3) Quetta 4) Hyderabad 5) Sheikhapura 6) Gurjanwala Have the 4-day league in the winter/spring and the ODI league in the fall/winter. I think both leagues would be very competetive and the threat of relegation would really spur teams in League 1 to play some hard, competetive cricket. The same goes for League 2, where promotion should entail benefits, both financial and otherwise. This format should encourage quality as oppossed to quantity, and also create a city-wide fan base. I for one would be excited about an annual tournament based on such a structure. |
