He may have more runs than them but IMHO all the above (and several others) were better batsmen. Better at adapting to all situations, especially when the pressure was on and they had to play defining knocks.

Heck even Kamran Akmal at Mohali and Karachi has played 2 Test knocks that are better than pretty much anything I've seen from Sachin in a Test match (I havent seen all his knocks so I could be wrong).

Sachin was a great accumulator but even amongst his own peers in his own team he wasnt the greatest test batsman of his era. I think Dravid and Azharuddin were both better than him when it really mattered.

only players from your list that were good enough to be compared to Sachin in terms of skill would be VIV and Lara... although I still feel Tendu was better then those two not by a lot but by a little... Although I still feel Tendu was not the most clutch batsman going around...

lol at the Indians, practically slitting their wrists at the mention of Tendulkar being poor in crunch situations, jeez calm down there

Inzamam has a far better record in games won that Tendulkar, and for that matter, any other batsman in international cricket. When Inzamam delivered for Pakistan, we won. It was as simple as that. His runs were match-winning; 17 of his 25 Test tons were winners, and he averaged 78 in games won. That is an unbelievable statistic, and regardless of the fact that I consider Sachin to be a great batsman, Inzamam was the better one in tough situatons.

Inzamam has a better record than Tendulkar in matches won. But why ? Simply because he played for a way better team. 17 of his 25 tons are match winning. Why ? Simply because he played for a team with the strongest bowling attack in the world to knock off the 20 opposition wickets. Do you think those 17 tons would have come in winning cause if not for the great Pakistani bowlers knocking off the 20 opposition wickets ? No disrespect, but don't you think Maurice Odumbe, if he played for such a team, would have had his centuries in winning cause as well ? Brian Lara have only 8 of his 34 Test tons in winning cause. Why ? Simply because he played for a weak team, but even then he had Ambrose and Walsh.

Yes, I do agree that he was better than Tendulkar is tight situations. Tendulkar averages above 62 in Test matches India have won, while Inzi averages 78. Such stats depends on a lot of factors which are beyond a batsman's control. A batsman can only showcase his talent in factors which he have total authority upon.

But what is in a batsman's control is performing against the best bowling attacks. I'm sorry, but Inzi averages a poor 31 against Australia and another poor 32 against South Africa, the top two bowling attacks he faced during his career.

P.S. I'm not bitter at all. I'm just telling what I feel.

To my Indian friends:

None of us are arguing that Inzi was a better player then Sachin. All we are trying to say is when there was a pressure situation Inzi tended to handle that situation much better then Sachin and all this is not based on any stats but years of cricket watching. Though I have to agree that Sachin was much superior in setting up a match but it does not change the fact that Inzi did the rescue job much better.

Cricket would not be the same if Sachin was not playing or had not been a part of it. He is the most humble person and greatest example of a gentleman in the game. With all the records he has and the talent he has, you would never know because he always remains so quiet, modest and humble. He is a man and a half.
Sigh. If only Akhtar could have handled Fame in an equally down to earth manner.

All the 10 year old Indians, stop wetting your lungis...go cry somewhere else if you don't comprehend completely what I have said about Mr. Chokulkar!

I will not pay attention to all this silly and childish chest thumping by all Immature Indian posters, and leave for now with this:

I consider Inzi to be a Good batsman on the World Scene (although for Pak he was a Great Player)...not a Great Batsman on the World scene!

I consider Mr. Chokulkar to be a Great-ish batsman (His Choking makes him close to a Great but not completely) on the world scene but not the best Indian batsman ever; that title goes to Gavaskar and then Dravid!

From Pak side, Miandad, Imran (during his captaincy years), and Hanif have handled the pressure situations way better than Mr. Chokulkar and hence they are considered better batsmen than him in my book! In fact a few others can even qualify before Teenda on the basis of their sheer ability to buckle down and save the day for their team!

Don't like my views, go cry me a river again!

One thing I've never understood about indians is that you've got a few players to be proud about - Dravid, Gavasker, Azharuddin and even ganguly (as captain) who have done so much more for indian cricket than tendi. If you sat there and praised them, it would make some sense. But you can't see beyond worshipping little tendi....

Yeap we have a great match fixer to be whole heatedly proud of .. Gavaskar who would be happy as long as he is not out in any innings, win,lose/draw..Dravid, well forget it I will just lose the plot here...Ganguly I will leave it as it is, so far has been the best captian India has ever had..

Match-fixing, it is well known behind the scenes about the truth of sachin's involvement in match-fixing (you can whistle in the wind or close your ears to that fact), but the truth is Azhar (just like malik and cronje) were just made scapegoats.

Gavaskar is respected as a batsman the world over - it's ironic you are accusing him of protecting his average/record especially when defending the little one.

Dravid and tendi - no comparison. Dravid is the one who took india to test match glory Vs the Aussies on more than one occasion. Hes a giant when compared to the little midget.

Errr, and who's talkin about my parents? Real class there. This could get into a bit of a circular argument, but I'll leave it here. You're well protected while you sit behind your pc.

Simple fact, we did win a test in 1995 Vs Aus, but that's beside the point. The real point here is you are providing much comedy and a true representative of your country! Please carry on!

Well, it's you who told all of us with your actions about your _______. If you find nothing wrong or insulting about calling him a midget, then not only are you exactly what everyone thinks, but also a retard. It's always better not to put insulting remarks on players. Just because I can call Akhtar a Druggie Scumbag (which he is without a single shadow of a doubt), I don't do it because there is something called decency.

That's not called anger, that's called being disgusted for someone using a derogatory and insulting term for a particular player. There is a difference between criticizing and insulting. I'm the first one to teach my fellow Indian posters to learn to take criticism. And your connection with Akhtar is well known to us. You two newbies have certainly brought in a lot of differences between Pakistani and Indian fans. Why can't you learn to take criticism ? If you must argue, argue with fact. What would you achieve by name calling ? And seriously, do you think a player's image is effected by what some handful of fans think about him ? Do you think Agarkar would turn into a great bowler if he is loved and cherished by a handful of fan ? NO !! Likewise, do you think Tendulkar's image will suffer by what some handful of fans think about him ? NO !! Then why do you take it so seriously and get furious when someone criticizes him ? That's their opinions, let it be. Everyone have their own opinions. If I have the opinion that the sun wises from the west, will you argue with me trying to prove that I'm wrong ?

Just learn to take criticism. Defend a player if he is insulted, but learn to take it like a man if he is criticized. Everybody in this world doesn't think the way you do.

All i can say is :

height- tall or short
colour- black/brown/white

is not in any cricketer's control.
your genes are responsible for these.
criticising some one for being short is ridiculous. Tendulkar is 5 feet.
calling a short person as a midget is derogatory because the very term is crude.

what he has achieved with his 5 feet is more important .he has made lot of short people proud. the cricketing ability in his 5 feet body is a million times more than yours. you can be 8 feet tall, but have you scored a single run in international level??? God bless you and give some much needed sense not to hurt other people for no fault of their own.

for your information, Hanif Mohammad, an all time Great Pakistan batsman is of the same physical stature as Sachin. dont think he would be pleased to read your "midget" posts.

Go watch each and every post of mine on PP. I dare you to find a single insulting or intimidating post of mine. I've had a few fights with a terrible guy with the ID Cars 112. Just ask any poster here what sort of a person he was. And in this thread, I was annoyed at that guy calling an Indian player names. How would you feel if a poster from another nation calls any player from your team names ?

Now please, don't spread this fire further. Already the new posters here are going hammer and tons. This would further start a huge war of words between you and them. Please just close the topic.

Hanif Mohammad had technique, skills, talent and patience to play some of the greatest test innings the world has ever seen. Trendy is just someone who is batting at the right time in cricket history (batsmen friendly conditions). Too bad indians only know about Post-1990s indian cricket with world cup win as an exception.

Let's hear what Hanif Mohammad have to say about Tendy -

Quote:
Tendulkar is the best ever: Hanif Mohammad

Faisal Shariff in Karachi | March 14, 2004 20:14 IST

How does one feel after scoring 499 runs in a single innings?

"Tired," says Hanif Mohammad.

The 69-year-old former opener, who ranks amongst one of the greatest batsmen in Pakistan and world cricket, kept wickets and bowled with both arms in Test cricket and once held the record for the highest first class individual score of 499.

Hanif told rediff.com that the 499 he scored on January 11, 1959 was something he had never even dreamt of.

"I had scored 230 the previous year in the Quaid-E-Azam Trophy. So the next year when I got a hundred I decided to break my own record by scoring a 300. Wasim Mohammad was my elder brother and also the captain of the team. He knew all the cricket records by heart and we used to call him Wisden.

"At the end of the day, when I got 300, my brother asked me to go for the world record held by Don Bradman, who had made 452. I told him that I had only scored 300 and was another 150 runs away from the record. I told him it would be too much.

"As elder brother and captain of my team he asked me to continue batting the next day and I had to. Back at home he massaged my hands and encouraged me for the big knock the next day."

The little master overhauled the Don's score but failed to cross the 500 mark in a single innings.

"When I was dismissed for 499 I didn't know I had missed scoring 500. Later on when I was told about it I felt I could have got it," he says.

"When I went to Australia in 1965, Bradman came to see me and was surprised to see my size. He thought he would see a six feet six inch man who would have broken the record."

But he reckons that there were no hard feelings when Brian Lara broke his record, scoring 501, because records are meant to be broken.

"But it's a pity that for 35 years people forgot my record, but remembered me when Brian Lara broke it. I got calls from England for three hours when Lara was approaching my score."

Hanif Mohammad was the human form of technical correctness. Never one to play aerial shots; Hanif wore the bowlers down before moving in for the kill.

"Not much has changed since I quit playing," he says.

"There is more protection for the batsmen and the wickets are covered. The technique still remains the same."

But one-day cricket is making batsmen play more strokes, he believes.

"It is forcing batsmen to hit the ball, whether it is there to be hit or not. This is where batting has changed and spoilt the techniques of some batsmen. For one-day matches the approach is all right, but when you are playing Test cricket don't play one-day strokes. Play the waiting game; wait for the loose balls," he advises.

"Take Virender Sehwag for example. His technique is completely unsuited for Test cricket, yet he survives.

"Now take Rahul Dravid, he takes time to settle, whether he is playing Test or one-day cricket. Once he's settled he knows he has all the strokes to get the runs. This is the way batsmen should prepare themselves."

But, he says, in the end you cannot compare players with different techniques because both types of batsmen score runs.

"I am not upset about the way batsmen play one-day cricket. There was no one-day cricket during my time. If there were one-dayers during that time then probably I would also have played like these guys do. The essence of one-day cricket is that you need runs to win the game the same day. So you have to score at least at a strike rate of 60-70 runs per hundred balls."

But he believes the art of batting long hours is probably lost due to the one-day onslaught.

"Batsmen have become habitual to playing one-day cricket and want to score of every ball. It will be very difficult to change technique and play like that anymore for most batsmen."

Born in Junagadh, Hanif Mohammad is a great fan of Sunil Gavaskar.

"To my mind Sunil was the most complete opener. Technically, he was more sound than me. His records show how great a batsman he was. He was the most perfect opening batsman ever. You cannot expect more from any opener.

"But Sachin Tendulkar is the best ever. No one can come near him. No one can touch him as a batsman. He is number one. Brian Lara and Inzamam-ul Haq are world class, but Tendulkar is unmatched. His technique, judgement, his confidence and range of strokes are simply amazing.

"He had more strokes than Sunil Gavaskar and in that respect was better than him."

In comparison, he feels sad that Pakistan is not producing great batsmen any more.

"There is no one at the moment in Pakistan. They only have two good batsmen in Yousuf Youhana and Inzamam-ul Haq. This country has given batsmen like Javed Miandad, Zaheer Abbas, Sadiq Mohammad and Mushtaq Mohammad but now we are struggling.

"Pakistan cricket is in the rebuilding stage and it takes time. In two years Pakistan will re establish itself," he feels.

Having represented Pakistan in the first Test series against India in 1952-53, the little master is glad to see India-Pakistan play cricket again.

"I still can't believe that India is playing Pakistan in Karachi. So I decided to come and to the stadium and see it for myself. People are happy to come near each other again and that is the best thing for the sport."

No, because you are a nobody. You don't have any mark in this word. Your comments mean jack$hit to everyone. On the other hand Hanif is an old man who have no financial gains from India, and who is a qualified cricketer to comment on another cricketer. Also, Hanif gave this interview in Pakistan, not in India. I and everyone else would prefer the views of a qualified ex-cricketer like Hanif, rather than a nobody like you.
