Shia of Saudi Arab
Interesting item as I met up with a Shia from Saudi Arab sometime back. Apperantly a very large proportion of Saudi Shia do not open declare their religious opinions for fear of discrimination. He noted that about 30-35% of the country are Shia and most of them are concentrated in the oil rich regions of the country.
Given the emegence of a Arab Shia government in Iraq, it would be interesting to observe what implications this has for Saudi Arabia. http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/middle_east/8235404.stm PS this is not a Shia v. Sunni thread, just a thread to discuss the changing dynamics of the ME. |
