Recieved VERY strange letter.

Today my mum received an letter from Hong Kong this is what it says:

MR. Yang Wan
SLR Financial Management Limited, Hong Kong

Mr Akram ....... (my mum's name)
187 ....... Road
Birmingham, B.. ... (postcode)

I am Mr. Yang Wan, the Cheif Auditor of SLR Financial Management Limited, a finance and investment management company in the Hong Kong. In the course of performing my duties in the company as an auditor, I discovered floating money in a domiciliary account which was opened in 1994 belonging to a foreigner MR.K.P Akram who died in 1999. All effort to track any member of his nuclear and extended family or next of kin has failed. I conscripted the head of my department to plot (as the deal cannot be successful without his approval) and we decided to divert the fund for our private use. I have been mandated to contact you to stand in as his next of kin since your bear the same last name with him, this will enable us present you to my company as his next of kin. He died without leaving an Heir or a Will.

My intention is to transfer the sum of Fifteen Million Five Hundred Thousand United States dollars (US$15.500.000.00) in the aforementioned account to a safe account overseas for our private use. I am proposing that you partner with us since you bear the same last name with the late account holder and provide a bank account or open a new one that will serve the purpose of receiving this fund. For your assistance and participation in this venture, we are ready to part with a thirty percent (30%) of the entire funds i.e Four Million Six Hundred and Fifty Thousand United States dollars (US$4,650,000.00) as your share. On scrutinizing the deceased records and files with out finance company, I discovered that:

(1) No one has operated this account since 1999. (2) He died without any next of kin; hence the money has been floating. (3) No other person knows about this account.

If the money is not remitted urgently, it will be declared as unclaimed fund and converted to the company's funds which will benefit only the executive directors of my firm. This money can be approved and paid to you legally once I present you as the next of kin and secure all the documentary approvals and certifications in your name and also guide you stage by stage on how to make your claims applications to ensure its approval and payment.

I cam to UK in search of a credible person with the same last name with the deceased and would have been back to Hong Kong by the time you are reading this letter.
Please reply by faxing back to me a copy of my letter and stating your direct telephone and fax number on it |(please buy a fax machine if you do not have one because we cannot do the business without a fax number since most of our correspondences will be by fax) so that I can send you detailed information on the modalities of my proposition. The entire process leading to the crediting of your bank with the inherited funds will be completed within 14 working days. I implore you keep this proposition confidential as it is failure proof, 100% risk free and legal. I look forward to your prompt responce as I can be reached on my direct telephone number from 09:00GMT to 22.00GMT since we are about eight hours ahead of your time

OK that is the letter my problem is believing this letter is true or untrue? Anyone want to help me out?

Once they get your name/address, they'll try again ....... but from Nigeria or somewhere.

Most people receive up to half a dozen e-mails per month in their junk folder that use variations on this theme

I get such letters all the time

Nigerian guy who wants to invest in India or some times 20m$ lottery I won etc etc , in teh end I have to share my banking info so they can transfer millions of $$ into my account

Yeah, I received this Nigerian email so many times. Really stupid of me for not utilising such a golden opportunity - time and again !

There was a tv program a couple of years ago, about people who had been stripped of everything in their bank accounts, or hooked into paying a few hundred £'s for 'administration fees' before the money could be received, then more, then more, until they were cleaned out of tens of thousands of pounds.

These scammers are sending out thousands of these letters every day, and millions of emails.

It just takes the odd 1 or 2 of these to grab a victim and the scammers start makes hundreds of thousands pounds per month.

The victims ranged from old age pensioners to office workers who are normally quite intelligent.
But when it comes to the thought of easy money, it has a strange effect on peoples brains........

Shahd A, this is known is Advance-fee Fraud. If you respond to it, the next steps will involve sending some money to Mr Yang Wan for processing fees, etc. and depending on your level of gullibility, this can go on for a while. Needless to say, the original amount promised to you is completely bogus and you'll never recover the money you actually end up sending to this con artist.

Its very clear to me that MR. Yang Wan is a very stand up individual and doesn't believe in the interwebz, hence he took the necessary precaution to post a hand written letter rather then just sending an email.

I think a person to person meeting is a must to finalize this old school deal.

I got a similar letter..I acted on it and am now expecting Usd 17 million into my jersey account...I have had to pay for some death duties and legal fees, about Usd 25,000.00 but should be getting my money by end of this month!!

Cannot wait...Been really tough to get the Usd 25,000 together..Had remortgage my house and pay a huge interest..ordinarily this sort of loan with bankrupt me in this present economic climate but then in a few days I'll be a multi millionnaire!!!
