Bangladesh victory could have been good for cricket:

This post is for the real cricket fans ( not PG 13 Pakistan cricket fans).

I have to say, despite being a Pakistani, I was rooting for the Bangladeshi victory. I wanted this game of cricket to become more powerful, competitive and intense in subcontinent. For me, Bangladesh cricket cricket is more valuable than NZ and SL.

Winning this Asia cup could have given the same catalyst effect which Pakistan had in 1986 after winning the Australasia cup in Sharjah. Bangladesh cricket need some solid win to come on the map of top form of cricket. It has become boring to see the team playing mediocre cricket for almost 10 years.

There are close to 200 million people, more people than England, Australia, NZ, SA and Sri Lanka combined. The country is peaceful, fans are fanatic and crazy about game ( unlike other European counties, where cricket is not the first or most popular sports).

A top Bangladesh team is not only good for the international cricket but especially good for the Pakistan cricket. Economically we are so much dependent on Indian cricket ( there is not too much money by playing minnow teams with small country size). A good and solid Bangladesh cricket team will give us opportunity to play more competitive cricket with each other or arrange a bilateral series of 3-5 test every year, combined with one day and T20 cricket, we can also combine our domestic T20 league and make huge IPL type league in the region. This will open the flood gates to make tons of money for the board and for the players.

Winning Asia cup for Pakistan is not going to bring any significant change, in fact we have to see same old faces for another year, but this victory could have been huge for both countries ( for the long run).

An opportunity missed Bangla fans!!

Well yes, you are right that a strong Bangladesh team would be amazing for the whole cricket infrastructure, and there would be endess possibilties with another strong team in Asia.

Having said that, Pakistan were the better team in the end and Bangladesh has nobody to blame but themselves, they have nobody to blame but themselves for choking.

Let's hope the Bangla XI can keep up this momentum and continue to impress rather than go back into regression mode.

As a Bangladeshi my heart was broken after losing the final . But i think the lost might be a blessing in disguise for BD cricket . I fear that players might get carried away with the Asia cup win like the NZ whitewash . But now the players will realize more hard work is needed to win big tournaments

It is hard to decide which one was better team when the victory margin was only 2 runs, plus they came to the final by beating India and SL. The match could have gone either way, but nerves and luck favored Pakistan and we won. I still think Bangladesh is a better one day side than Pakistan. They have better overall players and one of the top genuine all rounder of the world cricket.

It is hard to keep the momentum after seeing the demoralizing defeat. This defeat could have taken Bangla cricket few years back ( instead of forward).

look, BD has achieved a lot from this tournament. Beating India and Srilanka ("world champions" and "runners up") in one tournament is no joke. BD needs to show consistency now. The old Bangladesh team used to fold meekly and lacked mental strength to cross the line. I hope the team has overcome that hurdle now.

I think a defeat could have been a blessing for the Pakistani cricket more than Bangla cricket. We have been carrying mediocre players for ages. if we would not have lost to England, we still would have Maliks, Farhats, in the team. If we would not have lost to India, Umar Akmal still would have been the keeper in one day.

Pakistan only learn from defeats and these type of useless victories have taken the country's cricket in backward direction for ages.

Quite same with BD cricket also. Loss in the final means mediocre players like Shahadat and Nazimuddin will be dropped in the next series . Shahadat and Nazimuddin played in the final bcoz they were part of a winning side and they both cost us the final .
