I watched a bit of it, incredibly low quality cricket. The bowlers have no idea about line and length and the batsmen are absolutely clueless about what shot to play on the merit of the ball. And dont even get me started on the fielding

Over here in Pakistan, Geo Super is broadcasting it unless there's an IPL match in which case it gets trumped for the IPL match

Just received these scores from Malir Gymkhana vs Asifabad Sports match:

Toss won by: Asifabad

Asifabad 114 All out in 18.2 overs. M. Gul 33 (22b, 4x4, 6x1), Zubair Malik 20 (29b, 6x1), Shahzaib Ahmed Khan (leg-break) 5/9, Sohaib Khan 2/14

Malir Gymkhana 115/2 in 13.1 overs. Shadab Kabir 36 (39b, 4x2, 6x2), Syed Haider Raza 31(23b, 4x4, 6x1), Raza ul Hasan (off-break) 1/23.

Malir Gymkhana won by 8 wickets.
Man of the Match: Shahzaib Ahmed Khan.

--------------------------------------------------------

That was the first 5-wicket haul of the tournament. He was playing with a knee injury. He's a former Pakistan U-19 player who has featured in two U-19 world cups, btw.

Also, one of the Gul CC Rawalpindi bowlers took a hattrick against UAE today!

^ Seriously though - with as many as 40 teams playing, what else do you expect? I guess we might see a few good match in the later stages of the tournament.
Pre-quarterfinals, quarterfinals, semi-finals and the final are left - Semi-finals should be good.

It's not that all the teams are rubbish. Some of the clubs like Malir Gymkhana, Pakistan CC are actually quite good. Plus, the Afghanistan team is good too.

You guys are so mean! Shadab Kabir is just 34.

Yes, he does play. This is club cricket - forget this. He still plays Grade II cricket. Played for Port Qasim Authority in the Patrons Trophy. And now that PQA have won the Patrons Trophy, you are likely to see him play the Quaid-e-Azam trophy too.

I sent this suggestion-cum-request to him a few days ago.
Apparently, it's difficult (read: not possible) as there are 10 or 12 matches every day. We might see the scorecards on his website once the pre-quarterfinals start.

I think Zia ul Haq is at the NCA these days, attending the Pak U-19 camp for the junior Asia Cup.

As for the others, may be the clubs that they play for are not participating in this event. Or may be they are playing but not doing anything of note We still don't know the full squads...

Oh and pls check the date before posting these news pieces. Puraani khabrein mat post karein. Shukriya.

KARACHI: Afghanistan Youth Cricket Club and Pak Korangi blasted their way into the pre-quarter-finals, ousting their respective rivals in league matches of the 2nd Pakistan Champions League here at different venues on Sunday.

In a Group B match at the Landhi Gymkhana, Afghanistan Youth CC defeated Landhi Friends by five wickets to reach the knockout stage as they finished their league round with six points. Mohammad Shehzad blasted 40 with six boundaries while Asghar Jannat belted 37 with two fours and a six to enable Afghanistan Youth CC to achieve the 145-run target with two balls to spare after losing five wickets. Adnan-ur-Rehman claimed 2-25.

Mujahid Hussain had earlier pounded 44 off 26 balls with six boundaries and a six to push Landhi Friends to 144. Wajid Ali smashed 30 with two fours and a six. Abdul Qadir picked 2-13 and Amir Mughal 2-14.

Crescent CC of Multan are the others who have made it to the round of 16 from Group B.

In another game at the same venue, Pak Korangi overwhelmed Kuwait by eight wickets to move into the last 16 with six points to their credit.

Kuwait, whose fate was to be decided after their match against SG Jadoon CC of Abbottabad late Sunday evening, were dismissed for a paltry 94 in 18 overs. Abid Mushtaq made 19 and Saad Khalid 16. Off-break bowler Atif Maqbool was the pick of the bowlers, taking 4-18. Pak Korangi achieved the target in the eighth over after losing two wickets. Awais Zia, who played three T20 games against England in the UAE earlier this year, scored an explosive innings of 51 off 18 balls. Gohar Ali accumulated 27.

In a Group C clash at the RLCA Ground in Korangi, Saeed Khan played a magical knock of 107 with ten fours and eight towering sixes to guide Khyber Greens (FATA) to a seven-wicket victory. Saeed was strongly supported by Rehan Afridi with 29 as Khyber Greens raced to the 162-run target in 17.1 after losing three wickets. Earlier, Rawalpindi Kings had posted 161-9 with Tayyab Riaz hammering 44 with five boundaries and a six, while Mohammad Irfan made 37. Asif Afridi captured 3-26.

The win took Khyber Greens to four points — a good position to make a place in the knock-out stage as they were playing their last match against Asifabad Sports, not a tough team, when this report was filed.

Phoenix Medicine of the United Arab Emirates have already qualified for the knockout stage from this group.

Defending champions Nazimabad Gymkhana topped Group A with eight points after whipping Mohammad Hussain CC by 137 runs. Nazimabad Gymkhana staged a huge total of 197-2 with Shoaib smashing 75 off 51 balls, which included seven fours and three sixes. Awais Rehmani fully supported his senior partner with a superb knock of 67 which was embellished with six fours and three sixes.

Mohammad Hussain CC completely failed to offer any resistance and the whole team perished for only 60 in 14.4 overs. Mansoor Ahmad bowled magically, finishing with 4-7 while Babar Rehman and Faraz Patel clinched two wickets each.

Peshawar Cricket Club are the others to have confirmed a knockout berth from this group, being the runners-up with six points from three wins.

In a Group H match, Combined Cricket Club of Faisalabad overwhelmed strong Pakistan Cricket Club by six runs to make the group interesting as four teams stand tied with four points each. The show between Pakistan CC and Dawood Sports scheduled late Sunday evening was to make it clear who will play the pre-quarter-finals from this group.

In other games, played Saturday evening, Al-Abbas Cricket Club of Burewala defeated AO Cricket Club by four runs while Ghouri Sports beat Qatar by 21 runs in Group E. Qatar were unlucky not to qualify for the knockout stage as they were locked with Korangi Al-Fateh at four points each but the latter managed to get to the next round thanks to a better net-run rate.

Qatar became the third foreign team to go out following the ouster of Dammam and Riyadh City Cricket Association.

Watched my first match today(AFghanistan vs some club from Lahore),and tbh the quality of cricket was better than i expected. Both teams had good cricketers especially the Lahore team, one of their pace bowlers(mushahid something) and their wicket keeper, Ahsan were quite good.

I also watched a match today. Afghan Youth vs Lahore team. I was surprised that no catches were dropped at all by Lahore team. Did not watch Afghan bowling.

The Afghanistan team has Shehzad, Shinware and Dowlat - all who are regular in national team.

KARACHI: Mohammad Talha’s four-wicket haul was enough for Combined XI to register a 37-run win over holders Nazimabad Gymkhana and send them crashing out of the 2nd Pakistan Champions League.
Batting first, Combined XI made 157 for seven courtesy Tanveer Hussain’s 57-ball 82. In reply, Gymkhana had no answer to Talha and were all out for 120 in the 19th over.
In another match, Hong Kong’s fast-bowling pair of Haseeb Amjab and Irfan Ahmed shared seven wickets between them to set up a 31-run win over Crecent CC of Multan in their pre-quarterfinal. Set a target of 148, Multan had no answer against the medium pacers as Haseeb bagged four while Irfan took three wickets to bowl out their opponents for 116. Earlier, Imran Ghani struck a 38-ball 52 while Najeeb Amir made 51 to help Hong Kong post 147 for nine in 20 overs.
Meanwhile, Khyber Green of Fata stunned Vital Five CC with an eight-wicket win to progress to the quarter-finals.
Published in The Express Tribune, May 29th, 2012.

i'd be ready to wager that the street cricket i used to play and/or watch a few years ago had more talent and was more intense
The overall standard and quality of cricket has been pretty good since the pre-quarterfinals.

Fawad Alam's Al-Noor Gymkhana beat Mohammad Talha's Combined CC Faisalabad and qualify for the semifinal.

Whattay captain is! At the toss, he said his team would try to restrict the opposition to 90 or 100 at max. They went on to bowl Faisalabad out for 90!

Naved Malik, Aqeel Anjum, Wahab Riaz, Junaid Zia - all are playing for Al-Noor Gymkhana btw.
