PPCL - Rules [ALL READ]
![]() RULES OF THE PPCL (PakPassion Cricket League) These rules must be read, accepted and respected by any persons participating in PPCL. 1 – PPCL CONCEPT AND FORMAT 1.1 – Inception The current PPCL was founded and created by PakPassion member King_Rizzy in March 2012 with the backing and support of PakPassion Administrator Shayan. PPCL is split into a Domestic competition and International series. Season 1 of PPCL kicked off with the following 8 domestic teams (team captains in brackets): - Big Cats (Badsha) - Cerebral Assassins (iHammad) - Dhamakedar Dynamites (iZeeshan) - Lightning Hawks CC (kingusama92) - Raging Bulls (Fireworks11) - Sons of Pitches (Inswinger) - The Outlawz (NJamal) - Vicious Falconeris (saj001) The following two international teams were added later in Season 1 in order for them to contest an International series (team captains in brackets): - Pakistan (Square Drive) - Rest of the World (freelance_cricketer) During the first season, two domestic team's appointed new captains and one team, Son of Pitches was highly inactive come the end of the season. The decision was made to dissolve Sons of Pitches and form a new team, which was later named Team Bring It. Season 2 of PPCL currently has 8 domestic teams, named below (team captains in brackets): - Big Cats (I Believe in the Teesra) - Cerebral Assassins (iHammad) - Dhamakedar Dynamites (iZeeshan) - Lightning Hawks CC (kingusama92) - Raging Bulls (Fireworks11) - Team Bring It (ibad17) - The Outlawz (NJamal) - Vicious Falconeris (Prince of Pakistan) During and at the end of Season 2, several PPCL participants departed/became inactive thus resulting in changed to captaincies of a few teams. Season 3 of PPCL has 8 domestic teams, named below (team captains in brackets): - Big Cats (I Believe in the Teesra) - Cerebral Assassins (King_Rizzy) - Dhamakedar Dynamites (leatherface58) - Lightning Hawks CC (kingusama92) - Raging Bulls (Fireworks11) - Team Bring It (ibad17) - The Outlawz (WiiiCKET) - Vicious Falconeris (Sidcricfan) No international competition took place after Season 2, as it was announced that from Season 3, the International Competition's would occur alongside the Domestic Competition's, whereby domestic player's would be called up for International duty. The following two international team's would partake in the domestic competition from Season 3 onwards: - Pakistan (captain TBA) - Rest of the World (captain TBA) 1.2 - Domestic Competition The domestic format is split into three separate competitions; First Class (FC) Championship, One Day (OD) Competition, and Twenty20 (T20) Tournament. 1.2.1 - First Class (FC) Championship The FC Championship will be contested in a double round-robin league (each team plays each other twice, once home and once away). Matches will be contested over a four-day period with each team playing two innings. The team which scores the most aggregate runs over both innings are declared winners of the match. The FC competition is based on a points system, where the team with the most points at the end of the competition will be declared FC Champions. The points system works as follows: Win: 16 points + Bonus Points Draw/Tie: 8 points + Bonus Points Loss: 0 points + Bonus Points Bonus points can be allocated for both batting and bowling and can only be obtained from the first 120 overs of each team’s first innings. The result of the match has no impact on bonus points. The bonus points can be awarded as follows: Batting: 200-249 runs: 1 point 250-299 runs: 2 points 300-349 runs : 3 points 350-399 runs: 4 points 400+ runs: 5 points Bowling: 3-5 wickets taken: 1 point 6-8 wickets taken: 2 points 9-10 wickes taken: 3 points 1.2.2 - One Day (OD) Competition The OD Competition will be contested in a double round-robin league (each team plays each other twice, once home and once away). Matches will be contested over a single day with each team playing one innings of 45 overs. The team which scores the most runs during the match are declared winners of the match. The OD competition is based on a points system, where the two teams with the most points at the end of the league will play against each other in a best-of-three Final. The team which wins the best-of-three Final will be declared OD Champions. The points system works as follows: Win: 4 points + Bonus Points Draw/Tie: 2 points + Bonus Points Loss: 0 points + Bonus Points Bonus points can be allocated for both batting and bowling. The result of the match has no impact on bonus points. The bonus points can be awarded as follows: Batting: 300-349 runs: 1 point 350-399 runs: 2 points 400+: 3 points Bowling: Opposition all out: 1 point Opposition all out in 30 to 39.5 overs or all out for 101-150 runs: 2 points Opposition all out in 29.5 overs or less or all out for less than 100 runs: 3 points 1.2.3 - Twenty20 (T20) Tournament The T20 Tournament will be divided into two groups of four teams. Each league will be contested in a double round-robin league (each team plays each other twice, once home and once away). Matches will be contested over a single day with each team playing one innings of 20 overs. The team which scores the most runs during the match are declared winners of the match. The two leagues are based on a points system, where the two teams of each group with the most points at the end of the league will advance to the Semi-Finals with the winners of one group playing the runner up of the other group. The two teams which win in the Semi-Finals will advance to the Final, where the two losing Semi-Finalists will face each other in a Third Place playoff. The winner of the Final will be declared T20 Champions. The points system works as follows: Win: 2 points + Bonus Points Draw/Tie: 1 point + Bonus Points Loss: 0 points + Bonus Points Bonus points can be allocated for both batting and bowling. The result of the match has no impact on bonus points. The bonus points can be awarded as follows: Batting: 200+ runs: 1 point Bowling: Opposition all out: 1 point 1.2.4 - Injuries and Suspensions Player's may get injured from time to time in the domestic competition. Injuries are decided by the following system; player's name's will be inserted into a random generator, with the word 'none' inserted inbetween each player's name. Two names will be selected from the random name selector. If 'none' is selected, that means there will be no injury for that selection. If a player's name is selected, this mean's that said player will be injured. Every time a player's name is selected, a random number generator will be used to determine the duration of his injury. A player can be injured for a maximum of 3 matches. The length of injury will apply across all formats. A team can only have a maximum of 2 injuries at any given time. Suspensions are likely to occur much less frequently than injuries. If a captain fails to name a team or pitch on time, not only will the team get deduction the relevant number of points but the captain will also receive a 1 match ban for the format he failed to name a team in. In addition to this, anyone caught breaking any other PPCL rules will receive a suspension. The length of the ban will depends on the severity of the situation. 1.3 - International Competition The International format is split into three separate series; Test, One Day International (ODI) and Twenty20 International (T20I). It was announced that from Season 3, the International Competition's would occur alongside the Domestic Competition's, whereby domestic player's would be called up for International duty. 1.3.1 - Test Series The Test series is contested between Pakistan and Rest of the World in a best-of-three series. Matches will be contested over a five-day period with each team playing two innings. The team which scores the most aggregate runs over both innings are declared winners of the match. The team which wins the most Test matches will be declared the Test series winners. Should both teams win an equal number of matches, the Test series will be shared. 1.3.2 - One Day International (ODI) Series The ODI series is contested between Pakistan and Rest of the World in a best-of-five series. Matches will be contested over a single day with each team playing one innings of 50 overs. The team which scores the most runs during the match are declared winners of the match. The team which wins the most ODI matches will be declared the ODI series winners. Should both teams win an equal number of matches, the ODI series will be shared. 1.3.3 - Twenty20 International (T20I) Series The T20I series is contested between Pakistan and Rest of the World in a best-of-three series. Matches will be contested over a single day with each team playing one innings of 20 overs. The team which scores the most runs during the match are declared winners of the match. The team which wins the most T20I matches will be declared the T20I series winners. Should both teams win an equal number of matches, the T20I series will be shared. 1.4 - International Duty Since the international matches were announced to take place at the same time as the domestic matches, domestic player's will be required to play for the international sides. Any player selected in the starting 11 of an international match will not be eligible to play for their domestic team (should their domestic side have any games during the international match). Only 4 a maximum of 4 player's from each domestic team are eligible to play international matches at any given time for both international teams. The international captain's, however, will only be eligible to pick a maximum of 3 player's from each domestic team in their starting 11, which will be on a first come first serve basis. Should the first international team named for a match contain a the maximum of 3 player's from a single domestic team in the starting 11, then the second international team named for a match can only name 1 player from the same domestic team in their starting 11. Also, international captains can only select a maximum of 2 domestic captains and 2 domestic vice captains. 2 – PPCL CONDUCT 2.1 - Conduct of Captains Captains are leaders of the teams. This does not make them immune to following the rules of PPCL, nor does it mean they cannot be punished for wrongdoing. Any captain caught breaking rules will be a) removed from captaincy and b) punished just like any other member, depending on the severity of the situation. 2.2 - General Banter Friendly banter is encouraged in PPCL, however ANY racial, sexual, religious, explicit and/or ethnic remarks stated in a derogatory manner WILL NOT BE TOLERATED at all. Anyone caught breaking this rule will be removed from PPCL with immediate effect. Depending on the severity of the situation and judgement of PakPassion forum Administrators/Moderators, the individual could be banned from the forum also. 2.3 - Team Threads Captains of each team have the option of creating a thread specific for their team. Whilst it is not against the rules to post in another team’s thread, it is common courtesy to post in your own team thread only. 2.4 - Match Thread Every match between two teams will have its own thread. This is where captains name their 11 players for the match and pitch conditions. Team selection and pitch conditions must be named before the given deadline in the match thread. This is also the most common place for banter to take place, but please read rule 2.2 before engaging in banter. 3 – CAPTAINS: ROLES AND EXPECTATIONS 3.1 - Team Selection One of the key roles of a captain is to name 11 players for every match in the match thread. The only players eligible for selection are those in the team squad of the club. The team must be named using the following template, in batting order: 1) [username] 2) [username] 3) [username] (C) 4) [username] 5) [username] 6) [username] (WK) 7) [username] 8) [username] 9) [username] (VC) 10) [username] 11) [username] It is not necessary to state who is the captain, vice captain and wicket-keeper in the team selection. However, if there is not a wicket-keeper in the team selection, then stating who will be wicket-keeping is a must. Vice captains can also name a team for matches (see rule 4 below). 3.1.1: Failure to post a team - Failure to post a team will result in a penalty and the team from the previous match being used. If a captain wants to keep his team the same from the previous match, he must again name the team out in full using the template above. Saying “unchanged” or “same team from last match” (or something similar) will constitute as a team not being named. The penalties are as follows for the different competitions: FC Championship: 8 points deduction OD Competition: 2 points deduction T20 Tournament: 1 point deduction Third Place Playoff, Semi Finals, Finals, ODI match or T20I mach: 50 run deduction from team total Test match: 150 run deduction from 2nd innings team total 3.1.2: Pitches – Captains of the team playing home are also required to post the type of pitch they desire. The types of pitches vary for each different competition. The types of pitches available will be stated in the match thread. Failure to post a pitch will result in 1 point being deducted from the league table of the respective competition and a random pitch being chosen. 3.1.3: Banned Forum Members – Any players banned from the forum are not eligible for selection during their ban period. Any team selection named which is found to contain a banned forum member will constitute as a team not being named where rule 3.1.1 will apply. The contract associated with the banned player can be awarded to another member of the team should the captain wish to do so which will replace said members existing contract. 3.2 - The Draft At the start of every season, a draft will take place, where any newly signed up players or delisted players (see Rule 3.5 below) can be picked by captains to join their team. Captains take it in turns to pick players, by following the draft order. Captains must state the draft pick number and the name of the player they are picking. 3.3 - Trade Period At the end of and midway through every season, a trade period will take place where players can move to different teams where another play can be traded in exchange, however exchanging a player isn’t necessary. Other things can be exchanged such as draft picks. No player can be traded against their own will. All trades must be agreed by the player, his current captain and his proposed new captain, where any one of these not agreeing means the deal will not go through. Should negotiations occur for a captain to be traded to another team, the vice captain of the team from which the captain is being traded from will take over negotiations and will be required to confirm the trade. All confirmed trades need to be posted in the relevant thread with all required parties posting their agreement/disagreement. 3.4 - Auction/Super Cricketers An auction will take place during off season where captains (and vice captains) can bid for Super Cricketers to play for their team. A super cricketer receives a fixed 1 season contract whereby at the end of the season, he automatically leaves the club. A Super Cricketer is the only player eligible for an AA contract. Super Cricketer's are not eligible for any individual or team item's from the PPCL Shop. Having a Super Cricketer is optional. A Super Cricketer is only allowed to play 50% of a team's matched during the season. Should a player be found to have played more than 50% of the games once the season is concluded, the team shall be deducted the same number of points for not naming a team and pitch for a single match from all three formats. This means the team would be deducted 9 points from the FC Championship, 5 points from the OD Competition and 3 points from the T20 Tournament. If a team wins any titles with their Super Cricketer having played more than 50% of the team's total games, they will be stripped of them with immediate effects and titles awarded to the runner up. 3.4 - Changing Player Types At the end of every season, players can change player types if they wish, whether it be a personal decision or a decision to benefit the team. All changes to player types must be confirmed by the player and the player's captain. If either one of the player or captain don't agree to the change in player type, the change will not go ahead. Each team is allowed two free player type changes. Any further changed will incur a fee charge to both the team and player. 3.5 - Delisting Players Players can be released from each team at the end of the season by the captain and only the captain. A period will be announced as to when players can be delisted (usually after the draft and before the post-draft). Players can be delisted to make way for new players picked up through the draft or trade period. Any delisted players (should they still be active on the forum) will then be eligible to be picked by teams in the post-draft. 3.6 - Player Contracts The captain is responsible for giving each of his players a contract before the start of every season. Contracts range from AA-E (AA only eligible for Super Cricketers), with A being the best and E being the worst. Each contract comes with its own unique average for batting and bowling, which also varies depending on the player type, as well as a different fixed salary. Contract lengths have also been introduced since season 3, whereby each player who is picked during the draft, or transferred to a new team automatically enters a 1 season contract. Player's and captains can agree a contract of more than 1 season (in increments of 1). All contracts must be honoured all the way until they expire or until a transfer deal is struck for the player to leave his club for another club. A player cannot retire or release himself to become a free agent from his club until his contract expires. Similarly, a captain cannot release a player to become a free agent until said player's contract expires, unless a deal is struck to transfer the player to another club during either the pre- or mid- season transfer windows, as stated above. 3.7 - Squad Management The maximum squad size is 18. The minimum squad size is 11. It is the captain’s responsibility to ensure a balanced squad is in place. No additional players will be allowed to be signed during the season. 4 – VICE-CAPTAINS: ROLES AND EXPECTATIONS The responsibility of the vice-captain is to ensure that any duties not completed by the captain are completed by vice-captain. This can be posting team selections, pitch conditions, draft picks and trades. If the captain doesn’t name a team or pitch conditions for a match, the vice captain has the option to do so, but must still name it before the deadline for that specific match. Draft picks and trades can only be made by vice-captain if the captain is considered to have had a lengthy absence from the forum or if the captain is in negotiations to be traded himself (see rule 3.3 above). 5 – FINANCES Season 3 saw the introduction of finances for domestic team's and domestic player's, whereby both would be eligible to spend any money earned on items from the PPCL Shop. 5.1 - Team Finances At the start of Season 3, each team was given £100,000 by PPCL to kick start the introduction of finances. Team's are allowed to buy/sell player's during the Trade Period, and also bid for Super Cricketers during the Auction. Team's are also allowed to buy perks from the shop which benefits the team. Team's are expected to pay player's their wages, based on match appearances. Below is the wages each contracted player receives: AA - £15,000 A - £5,000 B - £4,000 C - £3,000 D - £2,000 E - £1,000 Each team has an overdraft limit of £100,000. Should a team's total money fall below the overdraft limit, they will be deducted the same number of points for not naming a team and pitch for a single match from all three formats. This means the team would be deducted 9 points from the FC Championship, 5 points from the OD Competition and 3 points from the T20 Tournament. Should a team's total balance fall below £-100,000 after the league formats have concluded with the competition's being into the final's round's, the team will be deducted 9 points from the FC championship and also disqualified from any finals they're in. Whilst in overdraft (regardless of the amount), a team is not allowed any expenditures apart from paying player's wages. 5.2 - Gate Receipts Teams will also receive income from ticket sales of home matches. Each team's attendance will be 20,000 at the start of the season. One ticket costs £5. The team has the option to extend this capacity by purchasing more seats from the PPCL Shop at £40 per seat. Every time a team wins, the attendance increases by 1,000 (won't increase further if maximum attendance is reached) for the next match. If a team loses, the attendance will decrease by 1,000 for the team's next game. If a team draws a match, the attendance for the next match will remain the same. 5.3 - Prize Money A team will receive prize money if it wins or draws/ties matches. If a team wins a match (any format), it will receive £6,000. A drawn or tied match will result in both teams receiving £3,000 (any format). No prize money is given for losing a match. Prize money is also handed out at the end of the season as follows: First Class Champions: £300,000 First Class Runner Up: £100,000 One Day Champions: £200,000 One Day Runner Up: £66,000 T20 Champions: £100,000 T20 Runner Up: £33,000 5.4 - Player Finances Player's receive wages from their team's as specified above. Player's will also receive sponsor money for their performances, as specified below: For every 1 run scored = £5 Scoring a 50 - £500 Scoring a 100 - £1,000 Taking a wicket - £100 Getting a 5 wicket haul - £1,000 Taking a catch - £25 As a player accumulates money from his wages or sponsor's, he's eligible to spend the money on items from the PPCL Shop to boost their average. Player's aren't allowed to go into overdraft at any point, apart from one situation at the start of Season 3 with player's who changed their player type, whereby they aren't allowed to buy items until they clear their overdraft. 5.5 - PPCL Shop The PPCL Shop is a place for team's and player's to spend their earned money. Team's are allowed to spend their money on items which benefit the club and boost their player's averages for a fixed number of matches. A player is allowed to spend their money on batting or bowling equipment which in return increases their average for a single match. A player or team can purchase a maximum of 3 items per season. The shop is called 'PPCL Badsha Sports Bazar', named after a PPCL legend, Badsha. 6 – BOARD OF ARBITRATION A board of arbitration was formed in Season 3 to handle any disputes that may arise in PPCL. The role of the board will be to remain neutral and not favour any party, whether it be the PPCL Chairman, a simmer, a team captain, a moderator, or a normal player. Any decision made by the board will be final. The board of arbitration is also being put in place to ensure the smooth running of the competition and put to bed any doubts or negativity that may arise. The current board members are; Amjid Javed, kingusama92, Genghis, Geordie Ahmed, Shayan. 7 – SIMMER: ROLES AND EXPECTATIONS 7.1 - Simulator If there is a large backing to use a different simulation software, a decision will be made at the end of the season on whether a different simulation software will be used. Simulation software cannot be changed during a season, but only during the end of season break. 7.2 - Corruption If there are any serious accusations of corrupt simulating in any form of the game with 100% conclusive evidence, the simmer(s) will be stripped of all simulating rights. They may still participate in the competition. The current simmer's are King_Rizzy (FC/Test), Space Cat (OD/ODI), Smiling Creed (T20/T20I). 8 – NEW PLAYERS All new players are welcome to join PPCL. To sign up, one must read, accept and respect the rules of PPCL and post in the sign up thread using the following template: Name: (Your username) Player Type: Batsman/Bowler/Wicketkeeper/Pure All Rounder/Batting All Rounder/Bowling All Rounder Bowling Style: Fast/Fast Medium/Medium/Off Spin/Leg Spin/Slow Left Arm (also include which hand you bowl with) Batting Hand: Right Hand or Left Hand. Players who sign up mid-way through the season will have to wait until the end of the season to be picked by a team in the draft. Players who sign up mid-way through the draft will enter the post-draft where their name will be added to the draft once the existing new players have been signed. 9 – GOLDEN RULE The Golden Rule of this competition is to have fun. Remember this is just a fantasy competition and is not real life, nor does the simulation software represent the real life abilities of forum members. You might have a batting average of 1 in real life, but could be the equivalent of Sir Don Bradman in PPCL. The aim of this competition is to please everyone, so please do go out there and enjoy it. PLEASE NOTE: RULES ARE SUBJECT TO CHANGE. Last edited by King_Rizzy; 2nd January 2013 at 09:10. |

Wonderfully laid out Rizzy. Quick question: Will the tournaments go on simultaneously or will it be FC Championship - then T20 Championship - etc. etc.

They'll be simultaneously. I'm about to draft a fixture list, but that won't be released until after the draft.

Personal question then KR, how have you found people at PakPassion and their knowledge of the sport/league? Happy with the progress and the way the interest is developing amongst the PPers?
PS- The rules definitely look organized and things should only get better from hereon. |

I'm not doubting the knowledge of people on this forum in terms of cricket, but I feel the members haven't grasped onto the concept of the league as quickly as the other forums I've been on. But I'm not concerned, it's a work in progress and once the matches start, it'll be clearer and people will begin understanding more.
In terms of interest, the number of people signed up was fantastic, more than I expected, and the posts in this section are also flying in. Great job there. |

Good stuff.
Also, King_Rizzy, I'd recommend going through previous cricsim tournaments on this forum. There have been loopholes exploited in the past. I don't remember the loopholes that were exploited or if they even apply to this tournament, but it got very annoying as organizers. Just a heads up! People are very clever and competitive on here.

so Rizzy, u make the Tournament, u organize the draft, u control the simulator...and so on
Not to mention ur one of the players participating, this gives ur team unfair advantage so the point is there are no checks and balances here ![]() this is where i come in, i will supervise you in this endeavor.........to make sure my team wins ![]() OR else i'm gonna make a new league, and ur league will become an illegal/rebel

Rizzy in this case what about a Captains player type? Captain was an automatic selection so his changing of player type will be considered as one of two allowed or not?

There is a lot of confusion then. Its unfair on Captains in my opinion.

Not really, you chose the player type and you chose to be captain.

Rizzy, I was wondering if you might want to consider having different contracts for different formats, you know what i mean? because a bowling allrounder like myself would not provide as much utility in the FC competition that's understandable, because it demands more specialist players, but in the ODI's and T20's, a bowling allrounder would be alot more effective and hence warrant a better contract, worth a thought?

It's worth a thought, but will make things confusing, so I'm going to say no.

Should be same contracts for the entire season. Makes the competition challenging and interesting at the same time.

I know this would be a huge change in the game, but Rizzy can you change the E to a no value contract. Like a free-agency contract so for the E players, you don't have to use a contract :/

Are we getting the 3rd day tonight, or will it be 4 days for a FC match, like in reality?

The bonus point system for the OD's looks alot more tougher than for the FC games. It's going to be interesting to see how many teams will manage to score 350-400+ in 45 overs! Would indeed be a marathon batting effort.

Too early to ask but which team will hold rights for the hosting the semis and finals for ODs and T20s? Or will it all be played on a neutral venue? Thanks.

All teams named first are home teams except for T20 Third Place Playoff, T20 Final and OD Competition Final 3 with these being played at neutral venues.

Yes.
Why should the captain be able to decide the fate of all the other players in the team, but then decide he wants to leave when he feels like it, most probably leaving a big gap in the team.

I didn't say it would. Just thought you might not have read it and might have something else to add like you always do.
Okay, imagine this: I'm the player, and I have secured a move to another team. I am very happy. My Captain, declines the thread. I am annoyed, so I have an argument with my captain, and he gives me an E contract next season. Can of worms. Opened. See where I'm coming from?

I think theres a big difference.
The captain can tell his player who wants a trade ''No trade, if you keep asking, I'll give you E''. So any SANE player will stop arguing. The Captain can tell his VC ''You decline this trade, and I'll demote you to E'' So any SANE VC will allow the trade, therefore, theres no point in having that rule. That was my question. P.S You sure do get riled up when someone questions you anything, don't you

You didn't see my point. If you think that's me getting riled up also, I wonder what would happen when I actually do get riled up. Damn, I think you'll need your nappy changing.
Anyway, the reason that rule has been put in place is to ensure fairness. If anyone is demoted to an E, well it just goes to show that the captain in the first place doesn't have professionalism, can't handle a little disagreement, and therefore probably doesn't deserve to be captain in the end. All that being said, I'm sure it won't even come down to this, these are just hypothetical situations. Rule stands.

Have tweaked the rule regarding banned members. The bit in bold has been added:
3.1.3: Banned Forum Members – Any players banned from the forum are not eligible for selection during their ban period. Any team selection named which is found to contain a banned forum member will constitute as a team not being named where rule 3.1.1 will apply. The contract associated with the banned player can be awarded to another member of the team should the captain wish to do so which will replace that members existing contract.
