He was dominating and a punch changed the game this happens in a sport like boxing I am sure he can comeback strongly.

Khan was always looking for a knockout and was hungry to win this match with a clear knockout and it went against him. I guess Garcias dad won the match for his son.

Just couldn't deliver.. all talk no walk.. no chin.. no power.. no brain.. he could have easily won had he stuck to the game plan, he already had Garcia cut on the right eye... he could have worked on that eye and won by TKO but instead he decided to turn off his brain, forget the game plan and go toe to toe...
Do us all a favour and retire Khan.. boxing is a tough sport, he's not cut out for it. |

even mohammed ali lost a few times, as did lennox lewis and mike tyson
I thought he didn't prepare himself as well as he did for the rematch with peterson which got cancelled when he trained in the phillipines but he fought courageously and magnanimously and will always sell out arenas with that kind of entertainment and style.

Khan needs to rebuild from here, i don't think he will get a rematch. However a rematch with Prescott and then Brook will be good, then he can think of the US again with a rematch with Garcia.
It would have been so much better for Khan had Peterson not been on drugs. |

If you watch the first couple of rounds, you'll see the game plan was spot on, he came inside, strung together a combo, and moved away. After the first couple of rounds, his mistake was to become overconfident and forget to move away, and Garcia caught him with the counter punch. The match could have ended there as Khan was in no fit state to carry on, his tactics went out the window and he tried to fight his way out of trouble. The whole "no chin / glass jaw" argument was put to bed after the Meidana fight, so no point bringing it up. He needs to work on his tactics and defence, any fighter will go down if he leaves himself open and gets a clean shot. He also needs to work on his arrogance, as there is no doubt that was a factor in this fight. People make mistakes in their line of work. They don't immediately retire as a result.

Amir Khan is a talented guy no doubt, very nimble, but at the moment he isn't wily enough to beat the best fighters or even some of the good ones. He could do with a reality check (which hopefully this was) and needs to use his wits in the ring instead of just his mitts.

He really needs to show more patience, the 'bull in a china shop' approach is only useful for 1 or 2 rounds at this level.
I also think it's time for him to find a trainer who is solely focussed on him.

Below is an extract from Glen Mccrory's article. He is spot on.
I thought Khan's speed and punch power would be too much for Garcia. He did everything I thought he would and began really well, but when he landed the right hand like the one that knocked Dmitry Salita out, it didn't do anything. Garcia didn't even flinch. It looked like the second coming, but let's face it - Garcia won a split decision over Kendall Holt, a split decision over Ashley Theophane, a decision over an ancient Erik Morales. But Amir Khan made Danny Garcia look like Sonny Liston in terms of power. Khan got bullied by Lamont Peterson and sparked by Garcia - if you look at it with any logic, what on earth is he going to do if he decides to step up into the welterweight division? He's got supposedly the greatest trainer in the world, the best fitness coach and the best nutritionist. I was over the moon when Amir reinvented himself after the defeat to Breidis Prescott and won the world title, but this defeat is different. Ricky Hatton found his level with Mayweather and Pacquiao and they beat him convincingly. He did fantastically well and it was time to get out. He could have done more, he could have had more pay days - but why? Why take punches if you don't have to? Amir Khan gets knocked out badly. Do you want to see him get hurt? Why would he risk everything he's got right now? He wants to win the light-welterweight title again - why? He should go and look in his trophy cabinet because he's already won it. He wants to win a welterweight title - why? It looks just the same as the light-welterweight one. So why? If it's just for money, if money's your God, then crack on

Alot of folk are saying if Khan had continued to box the way he did in the first 2 rounds he would've won. Well i DON'T BUY THAT...it was a 12 round fight, you khan run but khan't hide for 12 rounds.
Garcia knew what he was doing, he was tagging khan right from the opening bell, khan has great speed but its easy to blinded by his flashy handspeed, fact is he is a very one-dimensional boxer who is too predictable, lacks chin, lacks power, lacks defence (although he has a brilliant offence) and lacks ringsmarts (boxing IQ) Thanks for the exciting fights amir, but seriously call it a day, enjoy your health, wealth and married life. |

no credit is given to garcia by khan fans
in third round when garcia went to work on the body of khan, he was laying some solid shots to the body u could tell this kid had a very heavy punch even jim watts said i hope he doesnt connect. one could easily say he was wearing khan down, khans hands were getting lower. those same shots morales and even theophane took and they didn't start having spasms, like someone had attached 2 leads to their nipples and connected it to the mains. some people say theophane was actually very unlucky to lose to garcia it was split decison theophane is languising in the domestic circuit, recently lost fight to hamilton and rejected a fight with adil anwar so now u know why people think amir khan is overhyped. fastracked to the world stage, cherry picked his fighter carefully (bar prescott) to a world title fighter against humdum paper title holder like kotelnik. although i give him credit he was excellent against salita , and mallinagi when defending his belt. got a lot help from cortez the referee against maidana, since that punishment khan hasn't been the same again, but he showed heart. he was inoccous against mcloskey hardly impressive when chinny was talking about mayweather and the big fights and being an elite fighter. judah was shot anyhow, khan was too quick strong for him. when someone matched him height and strength he struggled ala peterson, he really found it difficult, the circus that happened afterwards with the man in the hat, and drugs issue didn't help. chinny whining, moaning, crying in front media also didn't help. and garcia , khan proved it once again when a big shot lands he is very vunerable and is ability to resist and absorb and recover from shots is virtually non existant. the ref gave him lots of time to recover, even the bell saved him in round 3 but chinnys legs were still being electrocuted and wobbling like jelly and were never gonna recover. khan looked drain tired, the power had gone from his hands and when he was knocked out the third time BY GLANCING SHOT to top of the head referee had no choice to call it off, if glancing blows were knocking him down then there was no need for ref to let khan carry on because some dluded khan fans are also saying the ref was to hasty in calling it off. Didnt Amir Khan almost get knocked out by a pea puncher Willy Limmand in the early part of his career?
Just proves that he is very chinny. Even against Maidana he was chased around the ring after being hit in the latter rounds. He was totally bullied by pieterson also. The only way Amir Khan can fight is hit and run for 12 rounds and make sure he doesnt get hit.

well he needs to play with his advantages I mean he is gifted with speed but he is no Ali so he should stick to his style just play and run for some rounds before he can really knock the opponent down. I dont understand where he put his brain before the fight because you need one in the ring and he was without one.

I think calling Khan an embarrassment is a little harsh.
This should probably be it for him now though, he certainly wont do any better against top Welters than the other weights he has fought at. I shudder to think what Floyd, Pacman or Bradley would do to him. Glass jaw and chinny get thrown about far too much but unfortunately for Amir it is all too accurate. He doesn't have the style or ring smarts to overcome this problem. He's not an embarrassment, just not good enough to get to the very top and stay there. No shame in that.

Let me give you Khan’s positives and negatives from a boxing perspective Postives: Speed – He’s quick, lightning speed punches! Heart – He’s got heart, I’ll give him that. Negatives: No chin No power Poor defense Inability to follow a game plan (Saw it in the Peterson fight and saw it on July 14th) A boxer can come back - you are right. But a boxer can only come back by correcting/compensating for his flaws. You can’t add muscle to the his chin, you can’t increase his punching power, you can improve his defense but not make it impregnable and only he can correct his ability to follow the game plan. So, let’s say he does that, he’s still not good enough to be world class. There is no champion out there who goes into a fight and only wins by UD ALL THE TIME. If he had either punching power or a good chin, I would say this guy can come back. But with just speed he won’t go far in boxing, will never be good enough to beat an elite fighters. Any boxer who has come back has at least 2 of these attributes: power, speed or a good chin. Two tweets from former boxers that are on Sky Sports and analyze fights: Glenn McCrory @SkyGlennMcCrory My advice to Amir would be Retire! He's written his name in history, he has the wealth, most important is health #boxingheads @AmirKingKhan Barry McGuigan @ClonesCyclone @stefanblack73 Think Amir now has had a huge reality check Stefan, I'm afraid he just simply is not good enough to fight in the Super League Carl Froch also calling for him to retire If he comes back and fights any one with punching power, he will get knocked out again. If he just wants more money then he should do it, otherwise he's just going to get hurt. Anyway, just my opinion. Last edited by kingusama92; 17th July 2012 at 01:34. |

Now frank bruno got found out he just wasn't good enough in the ring, ricky hatton was all hustle and bustle and one of the boys but was made imfamous by an immortal technique lyric.
David haye got found out by klitchko and then embarrsed himself in a press conference Carl froch got battered and has only reinvented himself in the 30s So going by current and past british upstarts, amir khan is up there with the best and could have took an easier fight after the cancellation with peterson and losing the fight to a cheat but fought garcia with little preparation. Now for an article by boxing writer Former junior welterweight titlist Amir Khan just can’t win with some people. He got knocked out in the fourth round by Danny Garcia in a unification bout on Saturday night at Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas in a wonderfully exciting fight. Garcia had too much power and too much chin, and dropped Khan three times to score the upset knockout after walking though a ton of hard right hands. Now, because Khan has been stopped twice in his career, some are suggesting that should he retire at age 25. I don’t get that. Khan is great for boxing. He’s never ducked anyone, he’s been willing to fight in his opponent’s hometown when he didn’t have to and he usually creates drama -- win or lose. He has so much skill, but doesn’t always use it because he can’t help but get himself dragged into a slugfest. That’s good for us, the fans, even if it’s a detriment to Khan. But that’s why he’s a must-see fighter. And now you have some people ridiculing him for losing and saying he should retire. But had Khan played it safe and boxed to a win like he probably could have, those same people would have also ridiculed him for fighting in a less-than-exciting style. You can’t have it both ways, people. I, for one, respect that when Khan says he’s coming to fight that he really means it. It’s not just some promotional ploy. After the fight, Khan tweeted, “Can I apologize to my family, friends and everyone. I got caught with a shot and I know millions of you are upset, but that's boxing for you.” My thought, which I tweeted back to Khan, was what does he have to apologize for? He doesn’t owe anyone an apology of any kind. All Khan did was go out and fight his rear end off, make an exciting fight and show a huge heart. He got beat by Garcia, who, by the way, is pretty damn good in his own right. There’s nothing to apologize for when you give your best effort and lose to a worthy opponent. http://espn.go.com/blog/dan-rafael/p...lass-in-defeat

Khan i think needed these two losses, it will give him a wake up call that he has weaknesses which he needs to work on and that he is not the greatest warrior since Khalid bin Waleed.
Most people are being ridiculous and harsh on him and asking him to retire. He just needs a head check and work on his defence. |

Khan is losing fights he could easily be winning if he fought a bit smarter. He was tagging Garcia at will but like the other fights he's lost he can't seem to help getting drawn into a slugfest which plays into his opponents hands. He has the reach and speed to outbox easily the fighters he has lost to but he keeps himself in range so a far slower opponent with a good chin and some power just has to wait for one shot to land.
Either he'sjust plain thick or his coach isn't giving him the right gameplan. Save the flashy knockouts for the fighters who can't take the shots. Against the guys who can, just outbox them. |

Watch it again...Khan stood in range the whole fight...he fought on the front foot the whole fight...he punched first the whole fight... The first two rounds it didn't look like he was attacking cos Garcia was hitting air and gloves...although even in round 2 Garcia actually landed a couple flush...it was no brawl...Khan attacked on the front foot, landed and got hit with the same counter left hook Garcia was missing and trying to land from round 1... Lol could it not be possible in some Khan fans minds that Garcia might have actually improved his timing during the fight?... Khan actually threw LESS punches in Round 3 than he did in the previous two rounds!!

Khan stuck to the plan...he just got hit...the plan was to fight on the front foot in range and throw quick combinations and step out of range before getting hit...he did that perfectly in round 1 and kept landing in round 2 and 3...what improved however was Garcia in terms of actually timing his counters...the plan could have worked...ie Khan could have done that all night and he wouldn't have been hit with that counter left hook but he did and that was game over... Whats worse than Khan's chin is his desire to brawl after hes hurt...he does himself no favours when hes hurt...thats where the plan goes out the window and Khan's lack of boxing IQ shines... Bernard Hopkins would disagree that you need power, speed and a chin to succeed in boxing but I get what you are saying...Khan has too many flaws to be a success...the issue is more that these flaws haven't improved... As for retirement thats his prerogative...he has more than enough ability to make a good career in boxing...hes an exciting fighter...but a couple more nasty KO's and for his healths sake it might be time for him to bow out...

Good points. But I want to point out I do not say you need all 3 to be successful.. I say you need at least 2 of the 3 to be successful (Power, Speed or Good Chin).. but yes you got it, the basic point I'm saying is he's got too many flaws.. I agree if Khan wants to go on his only way is to improve his defense, Emanuel Steward would be awesome.. look at what he's done with Klitschko's defense.. but then throughout Khan's fights we would be thinking one punch can change the fight..I also question Khan's ability to keep concentration and avoid brawling like you said.. and for that reason I feel Khan has a long way to go, I personally struggle to see him at the top. I hope he proves me wrong, but for now I stick to my words. I'd love to see him prove me wrong. Let's see. BTW the comment from Emanuel Steward in my post is NOT TRUE, he never said that. Someone posted this on facebook and I copied it but it's not true. I've asked mods to delete that from my post. |

Embarrasment? If winning a Silver medal in the Olympics as a 17 year old boy and being a world champion is a embarrasment, then I wish I was an embarrasment.
He might never reach the top or what was expected of him, but he is a credit to boxing. He goes out and fights against the best out there, never says no to a challenge. And his fights are always exciting. He behaves like I would want all fighters to behave. |

To be honest Khan is like alot or other British fighter over last 5-6 years (Ricky Hatton, David Haye are others). They try to be to dynamic and seem to not use even an ounce of intlliegence when going into the ring. Its almost a tactic of thinking il just go into ring and knock the guy out or get into a slugfeast all the time. Having confidence is fine but atleast use some boxing commonsense and have a game plan. Khan pretty much has a glass chin and that fact aint ever going to go away, other then that he had the tools to sucseed however that requires patients and working to a game plan for 12 rounds. Sadly british boxers at moment seem more intent on playing to the crowd and then get found wanting!
Theres isnt really many british boxers out there that i would rate as top notch in current boxing world. |

But in regards to this fight Khan got hit more as the fight went on...he was too late and too inaccurate with his counters initially but was hitting Khan at 40% in round 3... One can say at that specific moment that Khan was slow getting out of range thus him not being good enough to execute his plan...but to state that Khan didn't follow the plan is incorrect...he wasn't overly aggressive in round 3...it just looked that way cos Garcia actually started landing shots...

I question Amir's judgement, he stuck to the opponent like a leech while the opponent was all over him, dude you need to run around a bit too, and tire the opponent down when the going gets tough, then when you see an opening you jumap back in, but, for some reason Amir looked to finish it off in a hurry but found it otherwise,

Initially I also thought Khan should retire. But actually it was a freaky kind of punch that hit his neck like a karate chop that can make someone unconscious. Amir did well to get up from it.
I thought something like this might happen when Amir said at the final press conference something like "I never said this before any of my fights but I PROMISE to knock Garcia out". It was a "unsinkable titanic" moment. |

Part of what makes me a fan of Amir Khan is his flamboyancy and aggression. I hope he doesn't lose those qualities after that defeat. Hopefully he'll heal and defeat Garcia in England and knock his dad out by 'accident'

What options are there for Khan next?...
Well hes still targeting a Garcia rematch...I have to give him credit for that...and Angel Garcia is saying correctly that there is no need for a rematch but even then money talks and there aren't many good options available for either fighter...HBO have already stated they would be interested in a rematch...lets remember that Garcia isn't actually very good... Khan has mentioned that him and Hatton would be bigger than Haye and Chisora this week but I'll let him off on that one ...doubt Hatton can even make heavyweight right now...Khan essentially represents money in the division...and hes very beatable which makes him a high reward low risk fighter for everyone...even if Khan keeps losing he makes for exciting fights which means fighting him is always a good idea... Neither fighter wants Mathysse...he should be unbeaten if not for poor judging and would absolutely murder both fighters... JMM shouldn't even be ranked in the division and isn't fighting either of these guys... Peterson is having his issues atm...Soto is moving down...Rios offers no reward after the Abril fight...and TR won't give him to either of these two for the moment... I would love to see both of them fight Alvarado but he is low reward VERY high risk against both fighters...Khan in particular...Maidana and Judah aren't really options for Khan...Maidana is still at 147...Judah is indeed a possible option for Garcia...hes shot...and he has name value... So nothing for Khan other than Garcia at 140 so what about 147?... He isn't fighting Floyd, Pac or Bradley for obvious reasons... He could target the winner of Guerrero/Aydin...Guerrero is a class fighter and if he does well on the step up in weight then hes a legitimate fighter at that weight and I wouldn't see Khan beating him...Aydin is crude but a legit welterweight and absolutely no name value...would never happen... Paulie wouldn't fight Khan...call it a duck if you want...Khan is a terrible style matchup for him... Winner of Alexander/Bailey...Bailey is an awful awful fighter but he has the best right hand in boxing...so never write him off...if he did beat Alexander which would shock me then Khan could land this fight...he can beat Bailey...Khan wouldn't land Alexander who would want to fight in St Louis and Khan wouldn't beat him imo...Alexander unlike Khan has actually shown improvements... Ortiz would be fun to watch...Ortiz should massacre Khan but he has his famous mental issues...I would love to see this fight...I personally believe Khan should be marketed and treated as a fun action fighter rather than a legitimate contender because he will never be in a boring fight... Berto is having issues and would be too much for Khan... Realistic fights for Khan at welterweight are Holt and Brook...Holt is a winnable fight but also a fight I can very easily seeing Khan getting knocked cold in...Brook makes a lot of sense...it will make a lot of money in the UK and its not yet clear what level Brook is at although beating Jones was a legitimate win...risk reward in a Brook fight makes sense for both fighters... I personally think Khan needs to be remarketed...to his credit he takes good fights...he has a lot of heart...cos of his vulnerabilities and fighting style he makes for fantastic and unpredictable fights...my first choice would be Ortiz...and second would be Brook...i'm not gonna lie...I would love to see him fight Hatton ...Who if he doesn't get Garcia should he fight next?...

Missed out Josesito Lopez...he would make a mess of Khan...but hes moving up in weight to fight Canelo anyway...
Bradley is big leagues now...Khan doesn't deserve that fight whatsoever...you don't come off a loss to the likes of Garcia to go up in weight and get a shot against a champ that just beat Pacquiao...thats simply not plausible...its still not clear who Manny's fighting next either...could still be a Bradley rematch... For the record...Bradley beats Khan VERY easily...

Khan's right hand man on twitter tweeted Khan v PAC in December - but then he deleted his tweet.
Even a fading Pac would destroy Khan. Khan should push hard for Garcia rematch and if not then move up and fight Brook.

The whole Bradley ducked Khan thing got disproved in its entirety now that Bradley signed with Top Rank and fought and beat Pacquiao...but because that idea still remains amongst some and the fact that Khan is a money fight it isn't entirely incomprehensible that Bradley could fight Khan...but in no way could it be argued to be a credible fight...financially viable yes for Bradley but not in the least bit credible to be fighting a guy going up in weight who has come off two losses against average opponents... Khan 'should' earn his shot...fight Holt or Brook...then maybe an Ortiz and then he can think about a shot...

Bradley won a dodgy decision against pacquiao, you can hardly use that as a defence, pretty much the same way khan was beaten by a peterson on illegal drugs

It may make Khan look better but he still lost the fight to Peterson...it isn't evident to what extent the PED benefited Peterson etc... And essentially Khan lost to a worse fighter in his next fight...Peterson is better than Garcia...and Peterson also got completely dominated by Bradley... Bradley operates at a different level to these fighters...he fought a good fight against Pacquiao and showed he belonged at that level...yes he shouldn't have won but hes shown hes an upper echelon fighter... Khan hasn't...losing to Garcia does in no way suggest you have earned the right to fight Bradley... And now that hes lost to Garcia him and Brook are not actually at at significantly different levels...Khan is a bigger draw but there is nothing to suggest he is a better fighter... And yeah the British public would tune in to watch him fight Brook...and so would the American public...its a good fight for both fighters...

Khan meanwhile is losing to the Danny Garcia's of the world...and there are plenty of fighters with good names on their CV but that means nothing when you have lost your last two fights which Khan has... Brook beat a legit opponent in his last fight in Carson Jones...Brook has earned the right to get a shot in the welterweight division...yet you think Khan who has lost his last two fights is too good to face Kell?... He fought McCloskey did he not?...and ok...if not Brook and not Bradley who would you have him fight?...

alexander is probably next opponent if garcia rematch is not.
if khan wins that, which is possible it would set him up nicely at 147. |

Khan possibly stepping back in the ring on December the 15th.
Hope he demolishes his opponent and then Garcia accepts a rematch. |

Alexander is a much better opponent than Garcia...far from a gimme if it happens...
If Alexander happens then there is no Garcia rematch cos thats Khan moving to 147... I wouldn't be shocked though if its some British soft touch at 147 though...like a Denton Vassell...thats not a cuss...just Khan could do with an easy opening at 147...

Lol getting ktfo seems to have humbled him...
"Many trainers have said they can make me into a big, unbeatable fighter. It's all about taking my time on this, it's a big decision to make. I'm still with Freddie at the moment, but in a week's time things might change. "It's all about seeing who might suit my style, who might help me on my offence, who might help me on my defence. I think I'm one of the best offensive fighters in the world, I just need to work on my defence. I really think to be one of the leading fighters, you need to have both. There are going to be a lot of things I'm going to change, but you will see a new Amir Khan." But on another note he really shouldn't be talking about his trainer like this in public...if you get rid of him then get rid of him and then discuss it... Manny Steward can improve him but certainly won't turn him into an elite factor...Khan isn't Wlad...
