Najaf Shah

"Left-arm seamer Najaf Shah did for Collingwood with a beauty that nipped away off the pitch and took his off stump and Arafat quickly finished off the innings by taking both Giles and Matthew Hoggard for ducks"

He is tall, pacey and moves the ball both in and out. I dont know why did selectors selected Khalil to tour of Australia, this guy could have done a lot better and would have troubled the aussies on the bouncey tracks. I hope he gets picked for the senior team soon.

Najaf has played for a club called 'Burslem' in Stoke on Trent for the last 2 seasons. I have seen him once. He has taken a stack of wickets for Burslem both seasons. Looked quite quick. Got lots of bounce.

If its Waqar Ahmed from Peshawar, who is a left arm fast bowler...I want you to monitor him closely...he is one of my personal favorites in Pakistani domestic scene

Naah, there is only one The Missile Man Khalil

Waqar's domestic record is nothing short of phenomenal...would make anyone except waqar Younis wish it was their record

I saw him in couple of games and he is at least twice the bowler Khalil can ever be...

Najaf Shah is a bit overhyped on this board... I saw clips of him and he is nothing special to write home about....

Not to say that he cannot develop into a decent bowler as he does have the height, etc.

You do understand after seeing the likes of the Missile Man Khalil and other right Arm Trundlers, in the last few games...Najaf does look better to the eyes

He is a decent and hard working left armer, with height and bounce, and swings the ball both ways, nippy of the deck...that is nothing bad for a start

I agree Monsee but some here want him in the Test side right away just because Sami pulled his groin... Najaf is not test match calibre by any stretch at present.

On the other hand, I was very pleasantly surprised by Shabbir's new action. It looks very clean indeed. I don't think he will have issues falling back to his old action even if he gets hit because the new action gives him at least the same pace if not more.

Going by Pak management and the selection choices we have made in the near past, Right now the 10 pacers in line for a Test slot would be:

Shabbir
Shoaib
Sami
Rana
Gul
Razzaq
Nazir
Rao
Khalil I know Najaf looks better than him
Asif

then you can start counting your Irshads and Najafs and Yasir Ali etc.

Agreed but if the management decides they need a lefty, Najaf is at least miles ahead of Khalil.

Off course my personal favorite is Waqar Ahmed of Peshawar (Left Arm Fast too)

Right on the money...I am quite pleased with his new action too. well done Bobby

Unless he wants to end his career and revert back for some stupid reason, I actually see him being a bigger threat in a couple month's time cause he looks quite relaxed with his new action

Sadly true. If you ask me, on current form and future promise, I would say "Yasir Ali blows the competition by some margin"

Too bad PCB wants to treat him like a step child

Bob woolmer personally picked khalil to go to Australia and india afta he was impressed how many half volleys and long hops he bowled in the nets. ideally khalil ensured pakistan batsmen were in good form b4 going out to the middle.

At time of selection khalil wasnt even in top 3/4 left arm "seamers" (term used lightly) when selected. waqar ahmed, nasir khan, zaeed saeed, stephen john and sami khan were and still are better left arm bowlers.

Just coz a player does well in warm up match v england doesnt mean he will do same in tests, the surprise element has gone. pakistan picked players like qaiser abbas afta he did well in warm up match when england last toured and he was a disaster.

We have been over this "Bob personally selected Khalil" thing a 100 times before, so I will not even say anything

BTW, when was Bob gonna see Waqar Ahmed and Co, if he had not seen a single domestic game in Pakistan, till he came back from Australia...remember Bob was not in Pakistan for more than a few weeks and that too only for some senior team camps

BTW, is it Bob's job to go scouting for new talent...then bari and Co. should pack their bags and go home

In answer to the question about Pak players in Stoke on Trent, I used to play in the North Staffs and South Cheshire league and still watch the odd game on a sunday when I don't play myself (by the way, I'm no hot shot cricketer - I played/play at second team level).

The Pak players in Stoke over the years :-

- Mushy (Little Stoke 2 seasons ago)
- Mo Hussain (Barlaston and now Stone)
- Imran Farhat (Port Hill 2 seasons ago)
- Nasir Khan (Silverdale)
- Azam Hussain (Meakins)
- Bilal Hussain (Lycett)
- Shahid Afridi (Little Syoke 1 season ago for a few games)
- Quaisar Abbas (Knypersley)
- IMRAN TAHIR (the guy in Patrons X1) - Moddesrshall - known as the best bowler in the league...takes millions of wickets).
- Najaf Shah - Burslem

There are more - I have forgotten some I'm sure.

Najaf is very tall - well over 6ft.
Pace I would say is around 84-86 mph.
Gets a lot of bounce - early 20s.
Good domestic record - unusual style of left arm over but can swing the ball as well as use his frame to get bounce. Needs to be wary of banging the ball in half way down outside off, though I am being pedantic. very fine prospect IMO. I was expecting another Khalil before I saw him on tv.

Have you seen Waqar Ahmed (Left Armer from Peshawar)...if you have, any thoughts about him

I was quite impressed by his bowling in a domestic game, in Pakistan...he supposedly plays league in England

Hi MAK,
We are working on Najaf and he is improving game by game, he has one area of the game that needs serious work and that is his fielding and he will have to improve that as well. He certainly fits into the scheme of things. We have tried to select a balanced squad and to keep faith with players. Hopefully they can do the job.
Bob

(bob's view hopefully when he's ready bowling wise he won't be held back because of his fielding)
