NAZ TARGETS BARRERA REMATCH (skysports)

Prince Naseem Hamed has reiterated his intention to make a comeback to the ring in 2006.
The Sheffield-born star has not fought since his unconvincing victory over Spaniard Manuel Calvo in May 2002.

Many assumed Naseem had turned his back on the fight game for good, but the 31-year-old insists he will pull the gloves back on and is targeting a rematch with WBC and IBF super-featherweight champion Marco Antonio Barrera.

The Mexican clinically beat Hamed back in April 2001 in what is still the only defeat on the Briton's record.

Barrera is widely regarded as one of the best champions in world boxing, but Hamed is determined to get another shot at the 'Baby-Faced Assassin' and believes the two could renew their rivalry within two years.

Speaking at Ricky Hatton's WBA and IBF light-welterweight unification win over Carlos Maussa, Naseem told Sky Box Office: “I found out Marco was going to be here and I wanted to speak to him to make sure he knows we're going to be getting it on next year maybe, or a couple of years down the road definitely.
“One hundred percent I will be fighting summer next year, watch out!”

Barrera hinted he may be ready to grant Naz's wish by claiming that the former WBO featherweight champion has more to offer boxing.

“Yes, Naz is a very good fighter and has more to give the people that know him,” he said.

Naz will get a battering if it does. In his time away he looks as if he has been putting on the pounds rather than time at the gym.

I wouldn't get too excited.

It is very unlikely that he will be anywhere near as good as he was in the 90's. He is very chubby at the moment and also his reflexes won't be as good as they used to be.

Barrera will rip him apart, if the fight actually happens.

Prince Naseem Hamed

Was just watching sky sports news and they were showing Ricky Hattons fight yesterday, anyway the had an interview with Prince Naseem. I berely recognised him due to his increased weight which is reflected on his face. He really does look fat.

Although he did say " I will definatley 100% be back next summer.. watch out".

Next to him was Marca Antonio Barrera who said if Naz does produce a comeback he will be more than happy to step into the ring with him.

I cant wait for this comeback as I still have fond memories of some of Naseems fights.

Naz, who has a personal interest in the Australian super-featherweight talent, believes the 20 year-old will prove to be something very special. "This kid is the second coming of Naseem Hamed," said an excited Naz.

"He's an awesome fighter. He's been watching lots of my videos, and has a tremendous amount of style, charisma and flair. I urge everyone to watch this kid because I have no doubts he can go all the way."

next naz?

Why don't you offer him a fight?

A sumo fight should be good enough for both of you.
