BBC News report about the ritual sacrifice of a boy in India

There was a chilling report on the BBC News at 10 about Utter Pradesh in India.

Apparently some woman went to a priest of the goddess Kali Ma and was advised to sacrifice a boy to appease the goddess. The woman then kidnapped a small boy and killed him cruelly and slowly.

The boys granmother told the reporter that first the woman cut out his tongue, then cut off his nose, then cut off his ears, then cut off his fingers... she couldnt go on after that and just said he died a slow excruciating death!!

It sounds like something out of an Indiana Jones movie only this real life version is far more gruesome.

The BBC reporter said that the Indian prison authorities told them people were in prison for over 200 similar cases.

I didnt think things like this were still going on!

at least some go to jail

we have so many horrific abuses in pakistan and the perpetrators are never punished; and they always use religion to justify their actions

I agree, I was just placing some context with your comment, and also it is much more predominant in India....I know this from experience and also talking to my Dad who has seen it first hand of the culture of Indians who are much more superstitious.....

Black magic is a different topic altogether I think.

As regards to violent taboo, we have a lot of it in Pakistan as well. Violence against women is not unheard of. There was a documentary I watched a while back on the Discovery Channel (or was it National Geographic?) where they looked into "honour killings" in Pakistan.

It was graphically and emotionally very distressing to say the least.

Black magic is prevalent in Bangladesh more than India and Pakistan.

Disgusting and utterly vile.

Religions from ancient times such as those of the Persians and the Carthaginians used to offer sacrifices in the form of humans to their gods.

Black Magic?

I'd much rather take my chances as the victim of a voodoo doll, a kali zubaan or a nazr as opposed to taking part in a human sacrifice!!

I watched that on the news last night and was frankly disgusted. What made this even sicker was how the "holy man" who was allegedly behind the "advice" given was trying to avoid the questioning of the BBC reporter.

You would think that such Jahil acts would cease to exist in the 21st century but clearly not. Doesnt matter where it is, its disturbing regardless
