Help needed for dying brother in London - Updated
Salaam guys....
I visted this brother today in London who is terminally ill with stomach cancer. I 've attached below detail of his circumstances/condition which was passed onto me by a sister. Basically, I didnt know this guy-I had never met him, but felt it my 'duty' to visit him and say a few prayers on his behalf. I met his mother (who is a Christian) that he had been suffering from this cancer for 6 years, and he became Muslim 2 years ago - BUT no one came to visit him - that is until now. Alhamdulilah, that has changed thanks to one email that was sent out on an Islamic forum, that highlighted the plight of this brother. -------------------------------------------------------- Here it is:- From: "Kate Taja" To: thuqulain@yahoo.co.uk Subject: Assistance needed for dying revert brother Date: Thu, 13 Apr 2006 21 14 +0000Date: Wed, 12 Apr 2006 Asalaamu alaikum, Indeed to Allah we belong and to Him we will return I bring you sad news of a revert brother who is terminally ill. His name is Leslie Crabbe. He is dying of stomach cancer with which he has been suffering for 7 years. All Praise to Allah, he converted to Islam 2 years ago and when my husband last spoke to him his faith seemed strong. He is, however, not getting enough support from the Muslims. He and his non-Muslim family have requested that muslims visit him, but very few brothers have visited. He is very weak and asleep most of the time from a combination of exhaustion and pain killers. When asked to make dhikr, he responded that he was too tired. Brother Julaibib also met his mother today who does not know how the Muslims take care of their dead. She did mention that she wants someone responsible to take charge and that he musn't be forgotten or she will have him buried at her local church. So, there are three requests: 1. Please encourage the men of your family to visit him so that he can constantly be encouraged to make dhikr and remember Allah and prepare for his meeting with Him. He is now in St Michael's Ward, Trinity Hospice, 30 Clapham Common North Side, London, SW4 0RN. 020 7787 1000. He can only tolerate short visits so you need to plan for a 5-10 min visit. Visitors can just turn up at any time and the receptionist will show them where to go. 2. Sisters: Please send cards, letters etc., and encourage your children to do so. It doesn't need to be complicated: a dua with a picture drawn by a child are a beautiful and inspiring combination. Address: Leslie Craddle, St. Michael's Ward, Trinity Hospice, 30 Clapham Common North Side, London, SW4 0RN. 3. A couple of brothers are looking into what can be done for his funeral... Please keep an ear out in case requests are made for donations to cover the cost etc, also for ladies to attend the janazah prayer and speak to his female relatives. I will send out more information insha' Allah when necessary. Insha' Allah this is the time to show that we have a community that is capable of establishing the rites of Islam and that we can rise to the challenges and difficulties that our community throws us. Please pass this information to anyone that can help...particularly if you know anyone retired, on-leave, etc, who has time to visit. And Allah is the source of all help. May he keep us firm on His Deen in our last moments Your sister Joanna Guys-I visted Brother Leslie today - and was deeply moved. If any of you can get the chance to just show him and his family that we as Muslims dont just desert our brothers and sisters who are in need. No one is asking for money - just 5 mins (maximum) of your time and most impotantly your dua's - which is surely the biggest charity you can show. -------------------------------------- You know its not like me to post such 'heavy' type threads - but this is a 'one-off' that had to be posted |

Maybe the MODS should make a sticky for this. It is important and brothers from UK should visit him.

No harm in bending the rules for a good cause...time is running out |

Just like Saeed Anwar 194 has pointed out, the concern was that when Brother Leslie does pass away, that he is buried in accordance to Islam - but that will happen, and all financial/burial arrangement are taken care of by local Muslim community.

Whilst we were visiting Leslie, we found about another young guy, Shahid who is also terminally ill - again from cancer. Again his family are Christian, but he converted a little whie ago
We were given his detail and went to visit him also. He is about 23 yrs old, and 6 ft + but due to cancer, chemo and muscle wasting, looks like a little child - he was in distress throughout, only able to acknowledge us by blinking - but he he responded to our salaam. Both these guy enjoy listening to recitation of Quran - so people are turning up and reciting or playing some Quranic audio - then leaving. I cannot rememebr the 2nd hospital details, but will post it when I get the info. Thanks guys. Last edited by Oxy™ : 16th April 2006 at 11:26. |

Ila Jannat Al Firdous ya ikhwaan!
Inshallah, Jannat Al Firdous awaits our two brothers. Aameen. May the suffering in this world act as expiation for their sins. May Allah reward the brothers and sisters who visit the ill from our Ummah and from those outside of it. |

Inna Lillahi wa Innah Alaihi Ra'jioun.
Having seen this brother only 7 days ago, I am devestated - but know that at long last his pain and suffering are over. I will see if I can get details of the janaza. |

Just read this thread. A very nice gesture Oxy.
Surely one of the London mosque committees should have been alerted by now and should organise a proper Islamic funeral for Leslie ? |

I think all is in hand Saj - I only heard about on the day we met up last week, and managed to see him the day after - the doctors gave him hours to live on Wed, but he made it for another 4 days beyond - enough time to be seen by plenty of brothers. |
