Happy Birthday Brian Charles Lara, Born May 2, 1969, Trinidad

Where do you start with Brian Charles Lara? He's the author of some of the most famous innings of all time: 400 and 501, the highest in Test and first-class history, as well as 213 and 153 not out to single-handedly beat Australia in 1998-99. Like most geniuses, Lara lost the plot for a little while: in 2000-01, against England and Australia, he made three ducks in five innings, and was infamously bowled round his legs first ball by Craig White. But after an injury-plagued phase of his career, Lara struck reasonably good form in the World Cup of 2003 before getting back his old job as West Indies captain. And after losing his world record to Matthew Hayden in October 2003, Lara stormed back to reclaim it with a splendid unbeaten 400 at St Johns in Antigua, where he had made his 375 ten years previously. Sadly, he uncorked that magnum only after England had crushed the West Indies in the opening three Tests to win their first series in the Caribbean for 36 years.

Why do all say 'I hope you break more records' but when Tendulkar does that you all have a problem?

its because Tendulkar never walks if he is out I have never seen him walking.

The Guyana test saw Brian Lara given out caught when he was no where near the ball. In Trinidad Sachin Tendulkar touched the ball but waited for the Umpire's decision which was given in his favour. In the same match Brian Lara touched the ball, saw the wicket keeper take the catch and walked without looking at the Umpire for one moment.

Tendulkar went on to register a century, his twenty ninth. In the circumstances I disagree with the commentators and sports writers who acclaimed it to be a great knock.

Lara happens to be a rare cricketer who walks when he knows he is out. Many players these days allow the umpires to make the decisions on the basis that they are sometimes given out when they are not out.

But hasan what does walking and not walking has to do with encouraging a player to go for records but despising the other for doing the same?

The point is not of their walking but of our consistency, we label Tendulkar a bad guy simply because he goes for records, but here we are asking Lara to do the same.

its not just tendulkar, I prayed for Inzi too that he should not break Lara's record when inzi scored 339 something and same for sewag and jayasuriya. Its not about India I dont want any player even Pakistani players to make 400 or make most runs in test matches. these records belong to one and only LARA.
