Chaos in Sao Paulo/Brazil!!!

http://big5.xinhuanet.com/gate/big5...ent_4556700.htm

The state of Sao Paulo, Brazil's wealthiest province, began to return to normal on Tuesday after a wave of street and jail violence killed 115 people over five days, state officials said.

The First Capital Command (PCC), Sao Paulo's main organized crime group, was believed to be behind the violence.

The PCC orchestrated the violence after its leaders -- including Williams Herbas Camaacho, the gang boss -- were moved to a maximum security prison on Thursday night, according to authorities.

Among the slain were 29 police, three metropolitan Guard officers, eight prison officers, four ordinary citizens and 71 suspected gangsters.

I'm going to be in Sao Paulo from June 1 - June 12...Your du'as are much appreciated!

Thanks bro...all du'as are appreciated! Little bit of both. Going for an interview for relocation in Sao Paulo and of course to check out the city!

I also want to visit the musquitas (apparently lot of muslims and mosques there). One of my dreams is to pray Jummah in as many different countries as possible...

Insha-Allah I survive it okay!

Are you sure bro? I read this article and I heard from others that have been to sao paulo said that they were. I also spoke to this other guy lives in sao paulo and he told me they are quite a number of Muslims and mosques there.

http://iviews.com/articles/Articles.asp?ref=IV9906-510

The biggest concentration of Muslims however is found in the greater Sao Paulo region, which is presumed to be home to approximately 500,000 Muslims.

The Muslim influence in Brazil is widespread. Perhaps seventh of the population is of Arab descent and names of Muslim/Arab origin are prevalent. Architecture and cuisine also bear the trademarks of the culture brought to the hemisphere by the Arabs. Not even fast food has escaped the immigrant influence, as the largest fast food chain in Brazil is "Habib’s" which serves Arab food. And the diversity of influence stretches to businesses such as the textile industry, which is dominated by Arab merchants. The Sao Paulo city council even has a Muslim Councillor by the name of Mohammad Murad, who is a lawyer by profession.

A number of mosques dot the greater Sao Paulo area. The oldest and most popular of these is found on Av. Do Estado. Since its establishment 70 years ago, the mosque has added a Quranic school, a small library, a large kitchen and meeting hall for various functions. But despite its popularity, the Av. Do Estado mosque has suffered from a dearth of religious leadership.

btw, what did your friend say about the situation in Sao Paulo right now?

Thanks for the du'as guys...Insha-Allah I'll be okay...Insha-Allah!

My boss was landing there on the Sunday when the violance started. He was there on a business trip for the company.
He told me that Monday going from work back to hotel was CRAZY!!! He said, he had never seen the traffic jams like this...but then the thing got normal as the week went by!
He is back today!

Good luck to you......but what the heck you'd be doing there?

hey sanchez thats what she just told me i asked her pretty casualy and she told me if there are any mosques she doesn't know any.. anyways the situation in sao paulo was really chaotic, i mean she said that she had never witnessed such violence, it was a first even for sao paulo. I was talking to her and she told me that a bus was getting flamed across her street. But the situation's much better now i guess. its just that the PCC( if thats the name) is very powerful and i suppose sao paulo has some corrupt government officials who dont bother to do much about it.

violence has died down from what I hear. Yup, the PCC was gang formed in prision...Amazing that they actually prisoners cell phone use which is exaclty how they co-ordinated the attacks in Sao Paulo...and yup, corruption is evident in Sao Paulo...I just hope I don't have to encounter it personally when I'm their.

Well it's for a job oppt. Insha-Allah. Not sure how it's going to turn out but we'll see. I'm not the type of person who can really sit still one place so why not Sao Paulo? Learning the culture and language of others has always been a passion of mine. If you knew me, you'd know that I'm a huge risk taker sometimes a bit too adventerous for my own good!
The opportunity to help others is also big incentive.
