Does Cristiano Ronaldo deserve the vilification he is getting in the British Media?

For some reason in majority of papers you pick up, the British media would have us believe that it was Ronaldo who was at fault in the fateful England v Portugal , Wayne Rooney red card. You have such illumanaries as Lampard, Gerrard and Alan Shearer blaming his for rooney's misfortune or rather stupidity...as though I did'nt watch the game.

Frankly I was a bit shocked at the amount of negative pubilicity there is about Ronaldo. Rooney is also claiming that Ronaldo whispered to him that he is going to get him sent off before the game. Gerrard and Lampard are suitably disgusted with Ronaldo's behaviour, never mind that neither managed to score from a spot kick and looked spineless.

My theory is that Rooney is too precious for the British public/media to vilify so they are looking to shift blame to Ronaldo. A poor and pathetic attempt which makes them look like stupid losers in rest of world's eyes. I mean Ronaldo did'nt force Rooney to stamp on Ricardo's gnads and the referee was looking to give him a card anyway as he was about a foot behind Rooney when the incident happened.

What are you views? Is Ronaldo partly to blame for Rooney's sending off?

The English, along with the Indians, are the worst losers in the world. They can never sit back and say 'we aint good enough'.

When they win it is always fair and square but when they lose there is always some mitigating circumstance (having to stay in a 5 star hotel for example) or some sort of unfair play (Ronaldo).

They should just grow up and accept that England were crap throughout the world cup and France would have ripped them to shreds in any case.

IF Peter Crouch hadnt pulled the hair of the T & T defender, he would nt have scored - cheating is OK if your English irt would appear....We still get that 'Afridi pitch dance' thrown at us!!

Doesn't matter. If you stamp on a players balls with the referee standing right in front of you....you will get a red card.

accident rooney's backside.
rooney deserved that red card. if ronaldo told rooney he'd get him sent off, it really does show rooney's mental capacity, does it not? so the other team is gunning to get you sent off, yet you decide to step on someone's 'tender' area and then push his teammates around. smart man.

English media is always over-reacting. England lost the game accept it rather than excuses. They played well but some times the better teams loss. and Rooney's redcarding had no affect on the game, it was some poor penalting from england which let them down. Correct me if I am wrong but English always come up with this blame game when ever they loss. they really are sore lossers.

Rooney only has himself to blame. You get situations like that all the time when some player commits a foul and you get the opposition crowding the referee. How many times do you see a player go and push the opposition right in front of the referee. The idiot seems to be on a mission to prove hes ever more dense than people think he is

For all those blaming Rooney entirely, shat it.

Rooney did accidently stamp on his knackers, the referee though wasn't at an angle to be certain about the incident. It was despicable that Ronaldo came out of nowhere - and betraying his Man U pal in the process - argued for a sending-off.
Rooney let him off lightly for just pushing him, but Ronaldo knew that was always going to be Rooney's reaction. So it was for the push that the 'second' yellow came to give Rooney the red.

You can say Ronaldo posesses a shrewd mind to play on Rooney's short fuse, but you can also see it the way I do, and call it outright deceit.

The stamp by Rooney was accident. He was actually being fouled and was trying to get away from the player and stamped on the player. I thought the referee was not going to send him off until Ronaldo told him.

Rooney completely deserved what he got.

He stamped on the poor guy's balls with his hard cleats and then started pushing Ronaldo. The lad is not very smart to say the least.

And if Ronaldo said that he was going to get him sent of before the game, this is the perfect response by Gasher bhai. Completely agree with him :-

Rooney was gonna get sent off regardless. I remember on 5 live radio, the commentators were saying only 5 min before he got sent off. "Can someone please get Rooney out of there, have a quiet word with him - I fear the worst for him in this match". It was a sending off waiting to happen.

I'm not Ronaldo's biggest fan, and yes he is a bit of a girl about most things, but he didn't do anything wrong there. Rooney trod on someone's nuts - and Ronaldo just informed the ref of it. And the angel Rooney, then shoved Ronaldo for good measure. What did he think he would get?

Excuses are part of English footballing tradition - I don't if anyone saw that programme "World Cup - heaven and hell". There was a special on "England's greatest excuses"! Hilarious!

Simple a case of sour grapes and looking to scapegoat anyone, but the team itself, so Ronaldo seems to fit the bill. Disgusting really.

He still gets booed by opposition fans

Rooney and him get on well, best of buddies and also Ronaldo has been playing brilliantly this season - along with Drogba the best player in the prem this season so far

It seems like the booing spurred him on

Yes he still gets the occasional boo's but this season he has silenced a lot of the critics he has been United's best player this season, best way to answer the boo boys is by doing it on the pitch!
