Old trafford - home away from home?

At lords the high majority of the crowd who went to watch the game were england fans. Thats sumat pretty much expected with england being the hosts. What about old trafford thou? I went to the 2001 test match and the odi match in 2003 and pakistan fans pretty much out numbered england fans through out both games. The crowd was a sea of green and white. The noise of horns and pakistani zindabad been chanted out all around the ground. I recon the test match starting on thursday will be pretty much the same. Add to that the dry conditions, abbrasive hard pitch the conditions are pretty much what u would find in karachi, lahore etc..

so is the 2nd test almost a home game for pakistan? There is a huge pakistani population in manchester and surrounding areas.

I guess in terms of fan it could be home away from home, but statistically, our home away from home is India!

I am not too sue abotu the crowd though. We were all expecting a big Pakistani turn out at Lords and were quite disappointed with the response.

Ive neva really seen to many pakistani fans flock to test matches @ lords before. However in 1996, 2001 there were huge pakistani followings at both tests.

The 01 test match felt like Lahore! 100s of Pakistani flags were flying proudly as our team surged to an improbable victory! That was also the last time i watched a test match in Pakistan!

pakistans record @ O.T is good aswell. Played 4 - won 1 drawn 3

we won in 2001 on a superb final day.

i also remember amir sohail scoring a brilliant 205 on same ground in drawn test match.

You make a good point, Amjid.

I have seen hilites of that game in 2001 - the ground was filled with chanting Pakistani fans. You could see a mass of green and white everywhere.

Hope its the same again.

Lords is too far south for Pakistan fans......

Most of the other grounds will get big Pakistani crowds...

Its only unfortunate Edgbaston hasent been given a game, Because that would have a big Pakistani turn out aswell.

It will be a totally different atmosphere to Lords - no doubt about it. A huge Pakistani community in the North West of England, I just hope the Pak fans have bothered to snap up tickets.

I recall going to the day/nighter at Old Trafford the last time Pakistan was here and it was amazing. It was like the match was being played in Pakistan.

disagree...Lords is always packed with englishfans...there are over 100000 pakistani nationals living in london region. half of them in east london.

Oval always has a higher concentration of pakistani fans.

I was at Lords day 1 and the atmosphere was pathetic......seemed more like a Gardeners World Convention than an international top class sporting event. I guess England fans can only bring themselves to make noise when it is the Ashes.

We'll teach them how to make noise at OT, I'm sure.

i was there yesterday - pathetic support for our team again - only a few hundred - although better than lords - quite a lot of hord core fans giving the pakistan - zindabads , and a few hooters

you can bring flags in just not on sticks - they are selling pak flags at the lccc shop for 3 pounds each anyway

make sure you all come today and support your team - i wll be there again - stand k - come on ppers - stand up and be counted - your country needs you.
