Places to visit in London?

Well very soon my family and I are visiting London for a long weekend and wondered if PPers had any ideas on what to go and visit there.

In the past we've done Tussauds, Windsor Castle, the shopping thing Oxford St etc, History Museum, London Tower, Southall, London Eye etc

Any ideas folks ?

I would also recommend going to a Shisha Cafe, possibly on Edgware Road.

Saj,

If your with the family than I would recommend visiting the London aquarium which is by the london eye on the river thames. Very good family day out and some sharks to see too! From tgheir you can go to london bridge and visit the london dungeon of horrors! Very good, especially for under 18s.

For eating, head towards the city of london and get off atr Farringdon tube station. There you will find a 24 hour american diner called 'Tinsel town'. They sell gigantic burgers and have probably the best milkshakes in London and the best thing is that all the meat is HALAL!

Other thougts are a trip to buckingham palace when there is a state visit. You will get a glimpse of the queen and the parade and band is an awesome sight.

Finally dont forget to have a quick coffee at covent gardens. There is an old tradition which still happens there, where street performers are performing maging tricks on every street corner and they are good. I guarantee the kids will love them!

Is that on the road itself or is that situated on a road off the main road? If not where abouts is it?

I wasn't impressed by it to be honest. From what I had heard about it, it was a huge let down. The only high point was seeing the actual Rosetta Stone.

Waterloo is Good i work in Waterloo and it is good near the Millenium Eye also.
Canary Wharf is good (as i work for BT) Canary has a gret view from inside!!!
St Pauls is also an idea. Go for the Bridges London , Waterloo Blackfrias, Westminster.
Go to out skirts of london a bit to see the real london. too much time in central takes the sheen off of it

OK Londoners...

I'm off to London with family from tomorrow for a looooong weekend.

Friday is Chessigton all day.

Saturday is Central London.

I'm going by car, so:

1) Is the congestion charge applicable on Saturday?
2) Parking - can you park anywhere on Sat?

Any cheap halal places to eat in CENTRAL London?

Thanks gents.

I will park in Slough and catch train and underground for Saturday

Leaves all day Sunday to try somethig.

Perhaps the Lords Tour.

Apart from Southall, are there any 'Pak' areas that I could take family for food? Areas preferably that are 'family friendly' - away from Gangsta Asians?

Ealing road in Wembley is also another asian area to browse like southall, more Gujrati population though..

Hounslow is 15 minutes from slough, you could park here and avoid the train part.. park all day at the station carpark for £3

oxy, tooting, upton park (tube station)- have a good selection.

Waltham Forest(walthamstow , leyton) is predominately pakistani(20000+)...but family restaurants are all spread over the place..but many , many takeways and chicken shops. Roti is good.

tayyabs in whitechapel. there are another couple. in that vicinity as well as bengali restaurants.

Dont go to Ilford Lane and Walthamstow, there just average sort of places you find everywere, suggesting going to roti is like suggesting to come london just to go to dixy.

I think whitechapel station on the district line is the closest to brick lane, but check on the web.

P.S Tayabs has gone down hill in the last couple of years, it too packed and the food is nothing speical.

lol- true up to a point..but there dinners arent that bad.

maybe i spend too much time in those parts.

also agree about tayyabs... but isnt that bad.. if u take their staple naan kebab!

there isnt much where i can say it amazing in east london of pakistani origin which doesnt look cheap..but personally believe its better than southall.

I used the underground the whole time while I was in London

Then, on the very last day of our visit, I lost my Oyster card

Funny though, that the station at Edgware road, theres 2 of them, and they're 30 meters away
