Pakistan's Test series & ODI series win over Sri Lanka in Sri Lanka

I have always felt that for some reason Pakistan's win over Sri Lanka in both Test's and ODI's in Sri Lanka never got enough appreciation/publicity as it should have. Most international teams struggle to win in Sri Lanka especially Tests. As noted during the on going series b/w Sri Lanka & South Africa, Sri Lanka is one of the toughest place to win & to win both the ODI & tests needs a remarkable performance from the whole team. We can't say that sub-continent teams find the condition in Sri Lanka easier b/c the Indian lads won't agree with you. India struggled on their last tour to Sri Lanka(Indian Oil Cup? containing Ind-WI-SL). Why is that our win was never seen as a huge Triumph(except from Pakistani's)?

This is what the South African Coach had to say after his team lost by an inning & 153 runs:

"Playing Sri Lanka in Sri Lanka is as difficult as playing Australia in Australia."

eh?

Sri Lanka is a very tough team, and if somebody would provide stats, you can see that Sri Lanka is the 2nd best team at home. So yes, it didn't recive as much regocnition as it should have because the international cricket media always plays down Pakistan's triumphs.

I also think that it's because it wasn't a huge tour set up by the PCB. 2 test series don't get a lot of attention. Same thing with 3 ODI's.

We played a depleted Lanka, without Vaas or Atapatu. But they are still a good side without them as they now displayed by hammering South Africa.

So you are right, and what sadly goes unnoticed are the really good performances by some of our players like Malik who saved the first Test. Everyone must have noticed Asif's absolute mass murder though.

Its All about Media projection.
An Indian win over Bangladesh is projected by THEIR MEDIA as the biggest thing ever that happened in the history of cricket. Their Media hypes up their players and picks up the positives among the negatives. We've seen them hyping up players like Mongia Zaheer Khan, Nehra etc etc who have had lots less potential.

Unfortunately in our country media independence has taken a completely different term. Reporters are send with the objective of finding out grudges, infightings, disharmony and other negative elements. If they don't find one they make up one (Case here is the AFRIDI Retirement Scenario). They have strong bias against Bob Woolmer, So called Experts like Aamir Sohail and Javed Miandad (the latter being a very good cricketer), teams up on different channel and make every attempt to malign Bob and Inzi.

Similar is the case with our media, if you go through our newspapers, OUR WIN REPORT is more or less downloaded from a site and published. However our Loss is Captioned and illustrated. A case here is the report of the wrong umpiring decisions that we face. Most of the time we'd not find any mention of them in the Media, however our negatives are reported with religious zeal and fervor (Seems like they enjoy it).

I am not sure what transpires behind such negative mentality, It could be the Coach/Manager/PCB poor handling of the media AND/OR it could be their own vested interests, however one thing is for sure and that is "IF OUR OWN MEDIA DOESN'T SUPPORT OUR TEAM THEN WE CAN'T EXPECT IT FROM OTHER NATION'S MEDIA."

well i think its the atomosphere & the nature of the series rahter than the media...i mean after all its still a sub-continent pitch...same as w hav back home, so there is no huge difference...the pak/india series gets hype only bcoz of their rivalry...v dont hav the same jest with SL or BD

its when conditions & playing surfacce canges that the attention is focused i.e. tour of Aus or Eng... i've seen AUs play NZ in their backyard but no such hype is there bcoz they both hav the same conditons & surfaces...its when other teams arrive that makes up the challenge

Congradulations! You beat an SL ODI squad without Jayasuriya, Atapattu, Vaas and Zoysa. And you beat an SL test squad without Atapattu, Vaas and Zoysa. I mean SL were only missing 3-4 of their most experianced players, while you guys were only missing one (Akhtar). On the other hand, we thrashed a full strenght SL team in SL, in the 2004 test series.
