Relative Cricketers.

Well I wonder if any of you have actually met or know a cricketer very well who has reached top teams or has a reputation.

My Uncle: He used to play for Universities Team as a wicket keeper and he was a vry good friend of rashid latif and was a better wicket keeper than him he got selected over rashid latif for almost every match and rashid latif was in the side for his batting which is'nt really impressive but still he was in the team for his batting, my Uncle also played for PIA but he played ussually in the 1980-1992 but didn't play much but I am acctually very proud to know someone who was a very good friend with rashid latif one of his best friends, he also was a friend of Shoaib Mohammed, Hanif Mohammed's son. Unlucky for my Uncle he didn't get chosen for pakistan because of his height which was like 5" 8 and didn't have good batting either but he does have the record for the most stumpings in a first class match he is on top 5, with 5/6 don't remember exactly.

I wonder if you guys know someone that plays cricket It would be nice to hear.

These show his batting and bowling statistics - how many catches/stumpings did he take?

Not bad at all.

Latif must have been selected over him for the combination of wicketkeeping and batting skills. If your uncle was better than Latif, he must have been some keeper.

Yeap, thanks everyone and yea he played against England too once you can say hje was in a sort of A team kk..

Oh yea and I know faisal Iqbal because my mom used to team him and his sister in kindergarten and we could'nt figure out if Faisal Iqbal was the one she thaught because she knows he was javed miandad's nephew but when they said he was javed miandad's nephew we were like almost sure. My uncle went to england with Rashid latif to like practice his glove work and stuff too and he made good friends with him but I haven't met rashid latif but I want to join his academy and I'm pretty sure my uncle can get him to let me join.

Respect to CricketPlayer and his uncle....must have been a top player.

It also reminds of story I heard Geoffrey Boycott tell on the radio. Don't mind as I'm going to share it here.

Boycott was invited to play in a Pro-Am Golf tournament (for charity I think). Pro-Am's are charity tournaments where Professional golfers are paired up with Amateur celebrity players. Now Boycott recalls that the Professional that he was paired with happened to be a young Swedish player who he had met a year earlier (I can't recall the Swede's name). Therefore he was looking forward to meeting him again.

When they met, Boycott asked his Swedish friend how his game was playing and how the past year had gone for him...'Oh great..' says the young Swedish Pro...'I've had a GREAT year...I'm now only 43rd in the rankings...'

Boycott looked amazed and replied:
'Son....if I was a golf-pro and was ranked 43rd... I wouldn't be shouting about it.'

My father played for combined universities was new ball and opening batsmen. Also the back up keeper. Physically wasnt that imposing but one the aitchison longest throw competition once. he left his career behind for a life in america. School was more important than playing because everyone in our family has touched first class cricket or some some sport professionally.

I think what the TaxiDriver is saying, is what's the point of shouting about someone who ISN'T REALLY ALL THAT....talking about someone who didn't make it to the TOP level.

Sure he played with others who did...but big deal IF HE wasn't good enough to do it HIMSELF.

Dinesh Karthik.

Not a relative, but I have met him a few times and bowled to him plenty of times in the Ahmadi nets, here in Kuwait. I was around 10-11, and he 17 or so, and even at that time he was a very good batsman and a competant keeper. However, his captain, a Pakistan, was an even better player than him. Of course, Dinesh went on to play for India while the captain didn't even get a look in in a Pakistani domestic team.

He was a nice guy - quite humble, and confident. Glad to see he has gone so far and has played 10 Tests and 3 ODI's for India.

Here is his Cricinfo profile: (It has no mention of him playing in Kuwait or living here for most of his life, but I can assure you he did.

Quote:
It took just one season for Dinesh Karthik to be transformed from an obscure second-choice wicketkeeper for Tamil Nadu to a serious contender for a berth in the Indian squad. Karthik may be a cherub-faced, shy boy off the field, but he has shown his ability to attack under pressure, and improvise, on it. As a 17-year-old playing his first season in 2002, he showed glimpses of his batting talent but his wicketkeeping wasn't up to scratch, resulting in him being dropped for the Ranji Trophy knockout matches. However, his impressive showing in the Under-19 World Cup in Dhaka - including a whirlwind 70 in a must-win game against Sri Lanka - two vital hundreds in the Ranji Trophy knock-out and an improved showing behind the stumps resulted in him emerging as a contender for the national squad. He was picked in the Indian one-day squad, as replacement for Parthiv Patel, in August 2004, and made his debut in a NatWest Challenge game against England where he pulled off a superb stumping. Shortly afterwards, he was called up to make his Test debut against Australia in the fourth Test at Mumbai. However, after managing just one fifty in ten Tests, he was axed in favour of the flamboyant Mahendra Singh Dhoni and has been on the fringes ever since. (Siddhartha Vaidyanathan)

Rashid Latif. He's a graduate of NED University in Karachi so met him on campus a couple of times. Also his elder brother was my manager in a telecommunications company (Instaphone) in Karachi. Although never met Rashid personally, his elder brother Khalid talked about him a few times.

Shoaib Malik came to my house in Karachi a few years back to collect some things that were sent to him from Saudi Arabia. My sister brought some them over from his relative in Jeddah.

That skill runs in the family then. Majid Khan once won a cricket ball throwing competition in England. I think the furtherest one was 117 yards approx. But surely Imran could also have matched that given his incredibly powerful arm.

When we used to live in karachi, our next door neigbours knew Ijaz Ahmed and also knew about my passion for cricket. Whenever Ijaz used to be in Khi , he drop by their place and a few times he came over to my place. I remember I told him I want to be a cricketer when i was like 8-9 and he said...go to school first and then worry about cricket.

I am also a close friend of Rashid Latif from NED University...

Rashid Latif gave me two very lovely gifts: Shirt of Wasim Akram and Sweater of Waqar Younis, which they wore in the last match of their career: The last match played by Pakistan in World Cup 2003...

Yes: Haider Nisar Sahab came into Cricket when One-Day Internationals had become very important component: Because he unfortunately failed to improve his batitng, he had little chance to play for Pakistan...

However to compare him with Rashid Latif is not justified for both Haider Nisar Sahab and Rashid Latif...

I am still in touch with Rashid Latif via E-Mails and he has been writing some excelent articles: He is MashaAllah an excellent gentlemen and very good Pakistani...

Earlier this year Rashid came to Dallas and Houston Texas with Harris Ahmed Khan and Moin Khan and I met them all: They were here raising funds for the earthquake victims of South Asia: Indeed those victims still need our help...

Not my relative but he used to be the captain of our top tier club team. An excellent leg spinner actually went on to play 1 ODI vs AUS in the 2004 champs trophy.
