Asim kamal's batting in different situations

i think that asim kamal bats good when the team are in trouble
how ever when pakistan are not in trouble he bats awfully he always tries to slog and he doesn't bat well.
under pressure
99 vs sa
80 or 90 vs aus
1st test against indians
last years series aginst indians
not under pressure
2nd/3rd test vs aus when pakistan needed to make a lead
today
2nd test vs india
overall i think he is a good player and fielder but when pakistan need to make leads he gets out cheaply i think shoaib malik should take his place also malik can bowl

What nonsense, it is early days for him in test cricket and he has performed as well as any of the guys in the team. He will figure out how to score runs in all situations. He may not be the most naturalyl gifted player but he more than makes it up with cojones.

sm332 has some valid points, it's far to early to judge him. He is a very good player in my view. Though i think pakistan should invest in shoaib malik. The only question is who should be left out?! YK, Inzi, Yoyo make up a very strong middle order there places are a definite. Then asim kamal and kamran akmal i also think have cemented there place in the side. Our opening is as big a problen as ever so malik in for razzaq? that seems to be the only choice unless malik becomes an opener / . Razzaqs bowling is slightly more penetrative (with the old ball) where as malik is an unknown quantity in tests.

As an Indian supporter what has caused me strife throughout my cirket viewing has been our Opening combo.

The difference a good opening combo can make is simply incredible. Look at our current combo, only once has Pak managed to get them for less than a 50 run partnership, it sets up the game well for the rest.

Pak IIRC has used the following players as openers in the last 2-3 yrs:

Farhat
Nazir
Toffee
Hameed
Afridi
Hafeez
Butt
..am I forgetting anyone????

In my view, till you have that spot settled you will struggle to WIN test matches. They can be saved but not won through the strength of middle order batting.

Any thoughts.....?

Kamal has had roughly as good a series as YK did in Australia, yet a certain someone still wanted YK to be dropped

Spot on sm332, pakistan has constantly been under pressure throughout the series because of good opening stands. Im not to sure statisticly but if you look back at all the great teams of the past such as the widies they had a very good opening pair. The current aus have hayden and langer, who have constantly got them of to good starts. One can't say if this plaayed a part in them being such a good side but it's bound to have played a large role!

Its not his fault that he rearly finds himself in a position where the team is doing well. He is used to constantly batting in the first session of a test match so he was probably confused today!!!!

funny that 91 & 48 in 1st test where match saving knocks...! 50 in 2nd test was only innings with any heart...!

big difference!

i think this suggestion typically shows our cricketing understanding...
what else do you expect from a cricketer...he does well when the team is under pressure..(literally struggling).....
I have great respect for Malik, his batting, bowling, attitude, whom i consider to be Pakistan's future captain....but he is not as good a batsmen as is Kamal.

He needs to start converting them into big scores! consistency is needed here, getting 40/50 is not good enough! [smilie=8.gif]

guzara hay I still don't like him too much but has certainly done pretty well this series. Hopefully a good attitude will get him far.

His temperment is his best quality. He is a sensible player who bats patiently and that is what we need.
