A book by Woolmer on his stint with the Pakistan team would be a cracking read!

A book by Woolmer on his stint with the Pakistan team would be a cracking read!

Just imagine a book written by the cool, calm coach on what has really been going on behind the scenes these last two years. There's so much to write about...

* The Shoaib dicipline angle
* Afridi vs Younis in the Windies
* Ovalgate
* The YK captaincy angle
* The SK resignation
* Mushy's strange appointment and firing

...I think it would be an interesting read because he'd offer an outside perspective on the politics and turmoil we never get to hear about. I also think he would be far more candid than a Pakistani player/coach due to him not having to live in Pakistan afterwards!

Haha ... I was going to raise this topic as well. In fact I was going to say, I am sure Bob will release a book on Pak cricket once he has ended his role with Pakistan. He will have so many interesting things to talk about, anyone would buy it.

It would be a tremendous read wouldnt it.

I think I'd particularly be interested in reading his views on why he thought some players had improved under his tenure and others flopped.

Would be the icing on the cake when someone in a responsible position later on shares with the whole world the intrigues largely privy to those who are in team management. What more, it would give our opponents a great time too at the cost of the team! I will be pretty shocked if he goes on and divulges all that has come his way through his position with the team - he is already being paid a huge amount of money as it is!

But in this era of foreign mercenary coaches like Wrights, Chappells, Whatmores, Bobs etc. - you cannot rule out them having a second pay cycle once they hang up their boots. That's the price and essence of commercialsm in cricket.

Farhad, perhaps a book like that might rip apart the cosy world of 'Sifarishi Pakistani Cricket' and change the face of the game in Pakistan forever?

It wouldn't necessarily be all bad news yaar.

Where on earth do you get this 'Foreign mercenary' thought process from? A coaching position is offered to whomsoever fits the requirements of the team at the time. Sometimes it is indeed useful to have someone not steeped in the local way of doing things for a variety of reasons not least of which is favoritism. Do local people not write their auto biographies? Have you read an autobiography ever? They do add to the fund of human knowledge in a unique way. As such they are not only entertaining but highly desirable.

Farhad will bash Woolmer at every opportunity he gets. Whether Woolmer is right or wrong is no issue to him. I'm use to it now.........just can't wait to see what the Woolmer bashers will be saying when Bob leaves and they finally realise that we have lost something very special.

Well, he is not a Pak national, is he? And offering his services for a huge pay packet. Foreign mercenary. Don't tell me he ain't and he is doing it for the love of it. Not an iota of national allegiance but direct function of pay package.

Probably more than you have even heard about. But that is not the issue really, is it? It's the potential harm that such a biography by a foreign coach can do on something so central and matter of extreme pride for the collective nation.

That's convenient. I can also give my opinion and say you will just support him and Inzi no matter if they are right or wrong.

Yaar, leken IMO the harm which may stem from it would outweigh any practical changes or benefits which it may bring.

nah, Woolmer is too goody two shoes to write a book about Pak cricket. Even if he did, it'll be very neutral.

Farhad, if everyone who gets paid for doing a job is to be derided for being 'a mercenary' who are we left with to appreciate?

I suppose you would point out some Saints and Sufi's of your acquaintance including I am sure your own self but there can't be that many of you lot. As for the rest of us we accept that alas we do get paid for work we do and whether it is good work or bad has to be judged on its merits not on whether we got paid for doing it or not.

Add another chapter for BW....

For those wondering if BW will ever be short of money when he retires, we can thank Pakistan for his retirement fund ! ( and I am obviously not referring to his paycheck...)

Well, He must share money with PCB from his book. Bob wouldn't be able to find many scandles, if he was coching other teams.

I wonder what happened to the book that Bob had been putting together with Tim Noakes at the time that he sadly passed away. Does anyone have any news on this?

Good question. I suppose the decision to release the book would ultimately lie with his family? I do hope the book is launched though.

These are the only 2 books I could find by Woolmer :-

I've found details of the book on the link below. It focuses on the technical aspects of cricket rather than an expose on BW's time with Pak.

Steady on, with time they could aspire to study from BW's guide. For now perhaps the following would suffice:

Perhaps Doctor saahib would be better off sticking to the medical textbooks but failing that perhaps the book below would be a good start:
