Dear Rahul Dravid......

emailed to me by a friend... absolutely brilliant

Dear Rahul Dravid

can't bat
can't bowl
can't field
can't captain

Can someone please tell me when we get to drop Sehwag; I know he made 65
but he has learnt nothing. He was dropped on 12 swishing as usual.

Your bowler Munaf is famous for his middle stump line. But to be
effective you need to protect him on leg side with a 5-4 field, not a
6-3.

The entire world now knows that Gilchrist cannot play seam bowling from
around the wicket. He doesn't pick the line. Except you. And when you
finally send Munaf around he beats Gili all ends up with a beauty but
goes back over the wicket.

Everyone knows how to get Damien Martyn. You pack the covers and point
area. Everyone except India because when the team does video analysis
they fast forward the overs in order to watch only themeselves in the
ads.

You are playing with only 250 runs. Your quicks are getting battered.
You are playing a side notoriously tentative against off-spin. You need
to bring your main spinner (at least the guy you picked ahead of Kumble
and Powar) on only before 120. He needs to bowl like a strike bowling
warrior, but bowls like a bank manager. He can't even dismiss Ricky
Ponting the notorious offspin bunny who plays spin like a blind man.
Plus, it'd be nice to give him a midwicket.

Dinesh Mongia is not your main spinner. He would be much more useful
after a few wickets have fallen & there is some pressure.

Your batting lineup consists of a genius who always falls to McGrath, a
slasher who averages 31 after breaking up the most successful opening
combination, a strokeless wonder whose confidence and basic game have
eroded (Kaif), another struggler on the fringes (Dinesh Mongia at 3),
yourself with an average of 10 in your last 10 games, a young guy with
no technique and no runs who apparently is more useful than Laxman and
Gambhir because he can field really well, etc. etc. This is the most
famed batting team in the world but it is fortunate to have agreat
batsman Greg Chappell to bring it to this stage.

You go into every game praying your opening bowler and your keeper will
make some runs for you.

You keep reminding everyone about 2 series you won at home a year back. Plus the reason you and the coach came in was because of the dismal one day record especially losing in a bunch of finals. Meanwhile your entire team cannot beat Dwayne Johnny Bravo and ten club cricketers all season long.

You do not lose any finals. Because you do not reach any finals.

Written by an armchiar critic - Rahul is the jewel in Indian Crickets Crown - excellent batsman, ambassador for the game and yes, he can be let down by players - not his problem.

India players need to be shaken out of their comfort zones ( as do Pakistanis) - dropping removing Rahul is not the solution.

It is easy to be critical but talent , discipline and application wise wise subcontinent players are lagging behind Australia .. Even Vengsarkar admitted yesterday that there is no extra-ordinary talent available and bench strength is very poor .. Similar is the case with Pakistan .. Players like Razaak , Akmal , Imran , Afridi would have been kicked out long back if they were in Australian team ..

I watched the whole Indian batting , remaining awake whole night - for what???
Thankfully, I did not watch Australia's batting because from all the experience of following
the Indian team I knew what the end result.

Infact, from now on I am lowering expectations from my team and everyone should do the
same thing and just enjoy good cricket. There is no point in agonizinig when you win only
two games out of last 20 game against australia.

If whoever written that, then if he/she is good enough, then he/she should go and play at professional international level, and see what its like.

Rahul Dravid, one of the few Indian players I like. His team have not responded and that is not his fault. He is an excellent batsman and a great ambassador for Indian sport, as MIG said.

This line was quite brilliant though:

Silly e-mail. Gilchrist, Ponting and Martyn are the finest batsmen in cricket. It's never easy getting them out in any condition.

It is harsh to say that he can't bat though he had a fifty and a near fifty in the last two mathces. I don't know what he was trying to prove before when he went opening but that didn't work out.
