Do you celebrate Birthdays?

My family are originally from a village and so most of them don't even know what month they were born let alone when their birthday is.

Whilst I was growing up, we didn't really celebrate birthdays, there was the odd occasion when I would insist but otherwise it wasn't the done thing.

This habit has stuck with me and even now,, my birthday is just like another day to me. I dont mark it in any way, shape or form.

However my niece is turning one on Sunday and we're going to celebrate her birthday. But the surprising thing is that it's my parents who are the catalyst behind it!

So is it only us village bumpkins who don't celebrate birthdays or is it a Pakistani thing?

We used to celebrate birthdays until we learned it was wrong. Now we just acknowledge it and get my brother a gift, which I guess is just as bad. But no parties anymore.

used to celebrate when we were kids but it was never a big affair even then.

for a long time now, it's just become a day to ponder over yet another wasted year of my life.

actually this year was a bit weird, I told my coworkers my birthday and one of the girls made a big stink about it, brought in a cake, etc. made me feel weird because I don't see what's there to celebrate.

actually same thing happened to me this year. Somehow coworkers found out and they took me to lunch. I didn't complain of course.

lunch would've been fine. but bringing the cake and on the floor and doing the whole cutting nonsense was a little bit much for me. needless to say I regret mentioning my birthday to them.

on the girl's own birthday, she apparently had a huge shindig. I skipped the party and took her to lunch the following week instead.

We celebrate our cousin's and friend's birthday every year. We go out for clubbing or to some nice bar and just enjoy ourselves.

IIRC the PAK team gave you a perfect birthday present by being bowled out for 89

Not really celebrate anymore, too old for a family celebration

Usually just chill with friends.

We dont celebrate it like having a party and all but its just the family who gets a cake, my mother cooks up something special etc. That is done for everyone's birthday be it me, my younger sister, brother or my father. It doesnt really classify as a birthday party.

Birthdays are depressing days which tell you that another day has passed and you are that much closer to your suite in the blue yonder...no interest for myself but I do, on occasion remember to wish my wife and definitely celebrate my childrens birthdays.

I have never celebrated my birthday, a load of rubbish imo, like Valentines day, Mothers Day, Fathers Day et etc

Tho my parents do make a big thing out of my nephews birthdays BUT i just eat the food

this year i even forgot my birthday, it was only after my mate made an ageist remark that i knew
