Muslims Behaving Badly on Haj Pilgrimage.
My Aunty & Uncle have just returned from Haj.
They commented on all the bad mannered and un-civilised behaviour that went on throughout their month long stay. Spitting Pushing and shoving out of the way Snatching Were just some of the bad mannered actions of many so called fellow Muslims. Why do people behave like this on such a sacred occasion ? |

Is that really that bad when you consider its a battle of the fittest - 3 million people trying to get to the same 'destination' as each other! Had you said 'fighting', 'swearing', 'stealing' - then maybe you would have a case - but to 'question' their faith (you call them 'so called Muslims), on the basis of spitting is out of line (imo) Last edited by Oxy : 15th January 2007 at 14:00. |

That sounds like a Sky One show.
It'd make great TV, 'Haji's Behaving Badly' I can just imagine the narrator now... "Rehman appears to be an average Muslim but appearances can be deceptive. Watch how he pushes, punchs and kicks his way through Hajj' |

I know people that prepared for Haj by going to the gym to build up fitness levels - thats the way it is.

Fair enough but part of Islam and the Hajj is sabr. People act badly on Hajj and shouldn't really. However it has always been thus, and in a way we have become accepting of it. At least this year there was no major stampede that I heard of. Anyway congratulations to all the Hajis this year. |

Also, have heard a lot of people got ripped off / let down this year by a major UK agent who did not arrive on time to give back the Hajjies their homeward bound airline tickets and hotel vouchers.
forcing them to sleep on the streets and paying for the flight back themselves. But Hajj is the greatest test of Sabr.. Last edited by Salman : 15th January 2007 at 15:14. |

i was watching 'the hajj' on national geographic couple of years back...and they had various hajji's doing short reports of each day of the hajj...
one was an african man..who was racially abused by some other ' hajji's ' ...he was venting his anger stating that sme people dont understand what it is being a muslim. Last edited by Toony™® : 15th January 2007 at 22:11. |

any1 who kicks, pushes, swears, invalidates their Hajj....patience is a major part of it...so to aspiring hajji's, avoid pushing or any other wrong activity and believe me you will get the best out of the Hajj!!

BTW, anyone who has had time to watch others behave badly...I can only hope he/she at least has had time to finish his/her Hajj properly
No disrespect intended |

For your information. No one watches what goes on deliberately, this isn't some Lahore bazaar where an incident occurs and you have 100 nosey onlookers. This is the Haj, where you don't have time to make nosey observations. However, when you are getting pushed, jostled, elbowed (football foul ) and end up with bruises, I don't think you can ignore the perpetrators. The general concensous is that behaviour during the performing of Haj and Umra is getting worse, not better. And these people should be ashamed of themselves. There are issues with certain Muslim groups - a lot can be blamed on the Mualims or leaders of these groups. For example - peopel insist on starting the Tawaf by kissing Hijray Aswad.
With hundred and thousands of people in the way, this is impractical but can be done, only if you push people out of the way! But this happens every time. These groups make a human spear and charge against flow of traffic to get to the stone and cause hardship and injuries to a lot of people. |

Not all the 3 million people performing Hajj have gone there for spiritual reasons.
Some just want a new title. |

Interesting to see some people replying to the effect of "Deal with it" to the original post.
Hajj might be a test of sabr, but the other muslims behaving like wild animals should definitely not be the ones testing your sabr. |

I don't know why, but I thought the title "Muslims behaving badly" will be something along the lines of Girls Gone Wild.

My cousin went on hajj last year and she says she was groped when touching the kaaba. How sick is that.

Sabr works both ways. I am suggesting that the people who behave badly should have sabr not the other way round. |

Never mind the folk going on hajj behaving badly, some of the organising companies are ripping the hajis off, right left and centre. Sadly there are an increasing number of stories you hear about these companies not sending people to the promised hotels etc etc

Some people don't deserve to have hands. |
