The Empty Quarter or the Rub' Al Khali...

No , I am not referring to any particular part of my brain but to the large expanse of uninhabited sand that is part of Saudi Arabia.

My current boss, a Brit, is a great admirer of this area - he recently visited the area, armed with a GPS and Toyota Land Cruiser - and followed the footsteps of Harry Philby ( father of the famous Russian/Brit spy - Kim Philby) who explored the region looking for a lost city. Instead he found sites where 3 Meteors had struck earth about 500 years ago ! Apparently, the force of the impact turned the sand (silicon) into glass and displaced tons of iron ( the largest being 2.2 tons) - SubhanALLAH - there is no iron in that area but the iron was in the Meteor.

So next time someone mentions the Empty Quarter or the Rub' Al Khali... you can act all knowledgabe like...

In the Quran it is said about Iron:
" And We brought it down" Back in the day people did not know what it meant. They thought it was on the mountain tops and God sent it down. Today science has proven that Iron has such chemical properties that it cannot be produced on the earth. Today they have realized that iron was a meteorite that struck earth and hence we have iron deposits. Notice how the Quran puts it. " We brought it down" it could have easily said we grew iron in the land but it never said this. Alhamdolillah.

The earths core is made of Iron.
Maybe the quran is speaking of a specific event. I can think of the Elephant battle before the birth of the prophet(pbuh). Can't really think of any other event where iron was hurled from the sky,

Well iron in Earth's core is different and there was no way human was going to get down there and get it. That's why Iron is believed to come from an outside source, which Quran makes it clear for us. Like my Brother Big Daddy quoted:

Allah wanted to say that I sent Iron down for us for uses in technology. If we take iron out of the technology today, we would be back in the stong ages once again.

MIG I always wanted to go there as well and there is belived to be a lot of Oil and Gas sitting down there for which Russia and China have got the contracts to explore.

The Rub-al-Khali also has an ancient city of Iram. This city was known as Ubar in the old days and many people tried to search for it. In the 1990s, people looking at satelite images were able to mark out ancient caravan routes and discovered the city in Oman. The city is thought to be the remains of the qoum of Aad.

Is there actually evidence to suggest that all or most surface iron is from outer space rather than from Volcano eruptions?

I guess one could look at the proximity to active volcano sites to deduce if the iron are really the consequence of volcanic activity or if they were really meteors from kryptonite.

The James Cameron-produced History Channel special, The Exodus Decoded, suggests that this location, now in a military zone, is the best candidate for the Biblical Mount Sinai. Not only does it correspond to Biblical geographical clues, but it possesses three important traits described in Exodus:

1. a cleft that overlooks a natural amphitheatre
2. evidence of an ancient spring
3. a plateau below large enough to hold several hundred thousand people and containing enough foliage to sustain large flocks.

If Hashem el Tarif is the "Mount of God", artifacts of the great Israelite encampment may be found in the plateau. (Permission for archaeological excavation must be granted by the Egyptian government, which closely guards and often denies access to any of the locations which may be related to Biblical history.) i cant prove it.

But thats in Egypt and not in Saudi Arabia as someone claimed. What about Jabel Musa? I thought that was the one most commonly refered to as Mount Sinai.

there are 5 or 6 sites. i saw the docmentary, Exodus decoded and man that guy had solid reasonings. Id also guess its hashaam . i think this mountain is on the edge of arabia and egypt.

The most popular theory for the creation of water was that the world was at one point all volcanoes. The eruptions caused the atmosphere at the time to turn into water and that is how our oceans came into existence. So I doubt all Iron we use is from outer space.
Where did you read this theory though?

Well if you go by Quran then before there was anything there was God's throne and there was water. And then God made the7 heavens. There was a time when paradise and earth were connected. Also if you must know the throne of satan in this world is also on water. This is all from islamic sources of ahadith. Its all about where u stand i guess in theology. Do you stand with science and the evolution theory or do u believe in the limitations of the human mind. I am at a position where science for me complements religion.

Regarding the iron theory, there was a show and in it were some scientists who were discussing the chemical properties and they said chemical properties of iron are such that it cannot occur naturally on this planet and then this muslim scholar, hamza yosuf added his thing by identifying this verse in the Quran. And I really liked the connection of events between these 2 independent sources.

Just watched a documentary on Youtube ....

and where it celebrated to be in egypt in the sinai penisula is a myth....

when the israelis occupied sinai they sent archaeologists to search for evidence and they just found egyptian artefacts there - no israeli settlements existed.

The area itself in egypt was proclaimed holy and thus named Sinai by a roman empress around 300 AD. There was no evidence of such.

Going by scripture alone.... Moses(pbuh) received revelation on Mount SInai which was in the land of Median - which is in present day Saudi Arabia.

The site is fenced off and is under control of saudi archaelogical commitee ... but funnily no digs are allowed at all.

Sorry If my question fealt like an attack but I was really only inquiring. I think you were trying to connect science with the Quranic verse and I wanted the background for the scientific claime you made. It just sounded incorrect to me because I try to keep up with scientific journals and I have never come across a theory which claims that iron has solely come from space.




Was it a sample of a piece of metal? Because I don't understand which chemical property of iron would suggest that. Maybe they were discussing some meteor which was made up of mainly iron.

BD is right...the ayah from surah hadid talks about iron being sent down...the ayah is: wa anzal nal hadid feehee ba'soon shadeed wa manafa'u linnas.

meaning we have revealed/sent down iron, where in is mighty power, for the benefit of mankind.

some scholars had originally thought that as iron was produced inside teh earth's core, this means that anzalna means revealed...but recent research has revealed that to produce iron...the temperature required is like 2X what is the temperature at the earth's core (or some figure like that), so scientists have said that it couldn't have been produced, there must've been meteriods of iron striking the earth in its infancy which led to the iron sinking into the earth...

I am reading up on this at the moment.

Actually from what I have read it seems that Iron was one of the materials used to creat the earth. So earth didn't exist before iron was introduced. Maybe that is what Allah(swt) means that there is reason why Iron was added to the mixture.
