World's tallest building to be built on Karachi island: Musharraf

World's tallest building to be built on Karachi island: Musharraf

http://www.geo.tv/geonews/details.asp?id=2740&param=1

KARACHI: President General Pervez Musharraf has announced to build world's tallest building on Karachi-connected island while the mega project of northern by-pass will be inaugurated next month.

Addressing the inaugural ceremony of Bagh-e-Ibn-e-Qasim constructed on 130 acres, he praised Sindh Governor Dr Ishratul Ebad for taking personal interest in completing the project.

Among others Sindh Governor Isratul Ebad, Sindh CM Arbab Rahim, CIty Nazim Mustafa Kamal, and provincial ministers were also present. Musharraf added that Ebad along Rahim and Kamal has turned Karachi city into parks city.

He annonced to support K-4 project designed to provide 100 million gallons of additional water for Karachi while provision of drinking water will be made sure, saying new projects to resolve issues pertaining to electricity, traffic, and cleanliness are in pipeline.

He asked environmentalists not to criticise the development projects, saying trees will be choped and sea-life disturbed since it is inevitable as consequence of such projects. He assured that new trees in double quantity will be planted later.

He announced to donate Rs2 million for labourers involved in constructing the Bagh-e-Ibn-e-Qasim, saying that 70 thousand plots were sold to poor people in Malir Development scheme and Taiser Town on low prices.

Thanking President Musharraf for taking personal interest in all Karachi projects, Ebad announced to build a resort on 800 acres near Manghopir and picnic spots alongside Malir canal.

The parks project was undertaken by the previous Nazim who was severely criticized by MQM at the time. It was said that people dont have water to drink but instead money is being wasted on making parks out of round abouts. Now that MQM are in government, they want to take credit for turning karachi into a park city. Long live politics.

Talk is cheap.

Also, does anyone else find it funny that they want to build the tallest building but issues pertaining to electricity, traffic and cleanliness are "in the pipeline."

Way to have your priorities straight guys.

Another worthless exercise in futility. Feed, water and clothe your needy before building such egotistical monuments.

oh yeah I forgot the "trickle down effect." I predicted that corrupt colonels would swindle earthquake relief money at the time. It didn't take a genius though. So what is there to prevent such morally bankrupt lowest of low people to steal such faceless investment?

Just curious, where would the Northern Bypass be built? I also hear there is a Lyari river highway proposed and also a North Karachi tunnel and also a souther bypass. Where would the southern bypass be built?

But Govt, especially a Military dictatorship has to give its permission. Emaar is a respected company fortunately. I just hope that some, at least, of the investment goes to the poor and the locals, and not just into the swiss bank accounts of morally corrupt sozzled generals.

you need these big projects..coz they provide a good cover to rob the country's treasury.. Nawaz sharif did it when he was building the motorway network in Pakistan.

no wonder ppl in Balochistan, Peshawar get angry...the amount of money that will be spent here can easily improve the living standards of the whole of balochistan

Dont hold it either, back in 2005 when they announced this tallest building in Pakistan (Sheikh Zaid Center) the same time when Emaar announced Buraj building in Dubai, look at where that building in Dubai is and where Sheikh Zaid Center is. SZC still hasnt taken off, it is being built close to where I live and all they have done is dug up the area in 2 years.

emaars SZC never took off, it was shelved later as they got kicked out the project, SZC was restarted using the same name but is a different project then emaars, its being made by dhabi group and the digging just started some 4 months ago and it still hasnt launched, 2 years ago it was a bus stop so i dnt know what your talking about.

emaar is a real estate company, they are not a charity, ask oxfam to give money to balohistan.

theres a huge different between the motorway and this, motorway was made using gov. funding, this is private investment.
balochistan and peshwar could get angry all they want cos they always cry for projects and when they get them, they oppose them.

guys, so much negativity is not good.
The government is not going to build the building from it's own funds. I am sure it's a commercial building.

Is this the KPT fountain which takes Rs. 100,000 a day to maintain. When I was in Karachi I heard that the government didn't have funds to maintain th fountain therefore it was out of action. I wonder how much money that KPT chairman made out of that project. I cant remember his name but he had a Marriage Hall called florence garden in North Nazimabad.

One of the tallest buildings of the world will be constructed in Karachi, President Pervez Musharraf told a ceremony in connection with the inauguration of Bagh Ibn-e-Qasim here on Tuesday night. The president referred to a project pertaining to a beach and island’s development, and said this would be a mega project of international standard. He said that land for the project would be reclaimed from the sea and added that the centre of the project would be a 1,947-foot high building.

I would be impressed if it was being built by pakistani engineers.
But it's a good thing that the building is so tall because once global warming kicks in ......
