Yom e Takbir

Today is the 9th anniversary of Pakistan’s becoming a nuclear power. I still remember that day in Islamabad as a student. Everybody was just waiting for this news, especially after hearing the speeches of some of BJP's ministers. Your memories?

I'd wait to see when the poor of the country have access to Justice, Health, Education. That'll be the Yom -e Takbeer. Blowing up a few bombs and obliterating mountains with it doesn't deserve to be celebrated when majority of the population is living sub human lives.

I think that day ensured security for Pakistan and I was hoping we would be able to cut the military budget and spend on welfare reforms. Inshallah that day will come as well,

But this event needs to be celebrated by itself.

Wazeeri, of all the propaganda that has been going on and on succesfully, it has to be said that 'Security Assurance' paranoia that the nation has been put into takes the lead. Like you said that you were hoping that the day we blow our devices it was expected that more money would be spend on welfare and reforms. Guess what, It never materialized. We still go around spending the same percentage of GDP on Military which we used to before the Nuclear blasts. And it'll never. Army as an institution will never allow any other person to cut down on the Military budget, because they want conventional parity of some equation too. Hence this vicious cycle will go on. India isn't going to evaporate, neither is Kashmir going to be freed. And we've found new willing enemies in Afghanistan, so now we need a much bigger army to take care of the borders, plus the people living inside it like in the case of Waziristan, Bajaur and now again Malakand Agency and Khyber Agency.

The explosion was a necessity and it has to be celebrated because we went from being a tin pot state to a tin pot state which cannot be messed with. I think without it Afghanistan may not have been the target of 9/11.

It was a necessity. yes but i don't agree with your notion that Pakistan would've been the target had they not acquired nuclear weapons..
