Which was the Most Exciting World Cup?

I havent gone further than 1970, as I anticipate that not too many of us will have watched World Cup finals tournaments prior to Mexico 1970.

So which was the most exciting and why ?

1994 - The first cup in the United States with lots and lots of dramas and surprises by the teams such as Bulgaria and Saudi Arabia and the final of course.

1998 was pretty good as well!

2006 was very exicting indeed in every sense.

1982 was my first proper World Cup.

The great Brazilian, French and Italian teams - some great games.

1990 was another good one.

Germany for me. Remember 98, 02 and 06 but 06 stands out for me more. So many fantastic goals with the new ball type playing havoc. Some classic matches too mainly including Argentina. Italy v Germany was one of the best matches of footie i've ever seen. Probably have been greater but this has more significance for me personally.

USA 94 for me - was the first World Cup i watched, i absolutely loved it. Everyday i would buy the paper and cut out the pictures from that day, my bedroom wall was covered with pictures of Romario, Baggio, Stoichkov even little Ray Houghton - also a peeved off Jackie Charlton

It was a colourful tournament with some memorable results.

I liked France 98, not as much as 94 BUT it was still a good un - especially seeing Zidane control the final, a magician at work.

2002 was average - some decent matches BUT largely dissapointing, was expecting much better.

2006 i never really saw much of it, the odd match here and there so cant really comment.

I would loved to have watched Italia 90 - seemed like a quality tournament

Seen 94, 98, 02 (well only bits of it) and 06. Not sure which was the best but 02 was definetely the worst - was just too much like the 2003 Cricket World Cup if you get what Im saying. Didnt seen enough of 94 as some of the games were pretty late at night (at least in Saudi) and I wasnt THAT interested in football anyway. 98 had its moments, including some outstanding matches involving England, Argentina and Holland. 06 was probably my favourite. No really unpredictable results but some quality games that had some top goals

I was chatting with a mate about the oldie World Cups - from about the 1970 to the 1986 World Cups, you really got the feeling that games were being played thousands of miles away! Slightly dodgy sound and picture, with big flashing 'R's in the corner everytime there was a replay being shown.

Its all too slick now!

France 98 was the best for me ... probably more so becoz Zidane won it for France in the end ... complete anti-climax to 2006. It also had some really good games ... in particular I remember Spain Vs Nigeria I think it was.

Agree! I don't know as much about Soccer as you guys but in the 02 WC i thought the quality of play was quite average. So i'll probably go with the 94 world cup as it had some excellent matches in the knockout stage.

lol, I know but the reason why is because one of the first 'great' football games I ever saw was that one with Argentina vs Engerland. Maradona's goal will always have a special place in my heart and I guess that is why I voted it as best WC because that is one memory I will always remember.

Though if I had to chose one which I followed on aregular basis it woul dhave to be 98 since I was too young for 94. 98 was a classic with Zidane controlling that final .

The majority of people seem to be voting for the first WC they watched. Nostalgia is a strong force

Mexico 86 for me.

I had bought quite a few computer games well in advance of this World Cup, got the Panini sticker albums to the ready and it was probably my most anticipated World Cup. The grounds, the Mexican wave and Maradona made the tournament a memorable one.

My first tournament that I remember is Italia 90 and that was really good. I still remember that tournament. Cameroon were really good in the tournament. I loved Maradona in it and was disappointed when Argentina lost in the final.

USA 94 was also very good and Roberto Bagio was amzing but I loved Romario and Bebeto in that world cup, they played really well was a really good tournament but was a dissapoinitng final.

98 was alright and although 02 was really good for the small teams, the lack of the big names made it dull. of the last 3 world cups, the 06 one was best.

The best world cup finals

Mexico 86 hands down for my money, great goals and lots of them, long range shots, mazy runs. The Russian side excelled in the long range shots, Elkjear for Denmark, along with Michael Laudrup. Spain had a good side and of course Maradona.

Mine too, but nostalgia aside, I haven't seen a better one since. On the flip side Italia 90 was the most boring.
